Demokratie und Gemeinschaft. Oder: wie kontrovers ist die Kommunitarismusdebatte?

1996

Management of metabolic adverse events of targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors in cancer patients: an Associazione Italiana Oncologia …

2020

The growing insights in the next-generation immunotherapy and the state-of-the-art advancement in targeted-agents significantly improved clinical outcome of cancer patients by pointing towards a unexplored Achilles' heel. Novel toxicity profiles have been uncovered, representing unmet medical needs. Thus, a panel of expert provide comprehensive pharmacological and clinical evidence, to provide a patient-tailored approach to metabolic adverse events associated with novel anti-cancer treatments. Prompted by the need of a multidisciplinary cooperation, a working group of Associazione Italiana Oncologia Medica (AIOM), Associazione Medici Diabetologi (AMD) and Societa Italiana Farmacologia (SIF)…

Diētas režīms pacientiem ar holecistītu

2016

Cardiovascular diseases and HCV infection: a simple association or more?

2013

HCV infection, metabolic disorders and cardiovascular alterations, considered alone or in combination, are common conditions in a large proportion of the general population. Consequently, determining whether the association of HCV infection with cardiometabolic disorders is simply coincidental or, conversely, caused by pathogenetic mechanisms (in)directly linking chronic HCV infection to these disorders, would be of extreme relevance. Several clinical studies have shown that metabolic disorders—namely, type 2 diabetes,1 insulin resistance (IR)2 and hepatic steatosis3—are highly prevalent in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) compared with non-infected patients. Experimental and clinica…

THE FINE STRUCTURE OF O2 Hb BINDING IN ANIMALS: SALMO IRIDEUS

1980

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the experimental results on study of the fine structure of O 2 Hb binding in animals. It is evident that the n ( S ) function represents a new tool to look at homotropic interactions, both qualitatively and quantitatively. At the moment, there are four applications: (1) study of molecular mechanism; (2) study of effectors, also pharmacological; (3) improved characterization of O 2 Hb binding, also in pathological cases; and (4) comparative studies in animals. Whole blood of fish is also investigated because usually there are found several hemoglobins. During registration of the O 2 binding curve, pH is not kept constant. Assuming that the Donnan fact…

0132: Identifying familial hypercholesterolemia from registries of patients with acute myocardial infarction: an algorithm-based approach

2016

Background and aims Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is at very high risk of early myocardial infarction (MI). The prevalence of FH, which is estimated to be at least 1:500 in the general population, remains unclear in patients with acute MI. From databases of 2 French regional and nationwide registries of acute MI (RICO and FAST-MI, respectively), we aimed to determine FH prevalence by developing a specific algorithm. Methods and results Consecutive patients with AMI ≤48 hours of onset included 1) in FAST-MI: during a one-month period in 213 institutions at the end of 2005 and 2) in RICO: from January 2001 December 2013 (≈13y), were considered in the 2 databases. The algorithm was adapte…

Prevention of 7-Ketocholesterol-Induced Overproduction of Reactive Oxygen Species, Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Cell Death with Major Nutrients (Pol…

2020

The brain, which is a cholesterol-rich organ, can be subject to oxidative stress in a variety of pathophysiological conditions, age-related diseases and some rare pathologies. This can lead to the formation of 7-ketocholesterol (7KC), a toxic derivative of cholesterol mainly produced by auto-oxidation. So, preventing the neuronal toxicity of 7KC is an important issue to avoid brain damage. As there are numerous data in favor of the prevention of neurodegeneration by the Mediterranean diet, this study aimed to evaluate the potential of a series of polyphenols (resveratrol, RSV

Proanthocyanidins and Where to Find Them: A Meta-Analytic Approach to Investigate Their Chemistry, Biosynthesis, Distribution, and Effect on Human He…

2021

Proanthocyanidins (PACs) are a class of polyphenolic compounds that are attracting considerable interest in the nutraceutical field due to their potential health benefits. However, knowledge about the chemistry, biosynthesis, and distribution of PACs is limited. This review summarizes the main chemical characteristics and biosynthetic pathways and the main analytical methods aimed at their identification and quantification in raw plant matrices. Furthermore, meta-analytic approaches were used to identify the main plant sources in which PACs were contained and to investigate their potential effect on human health. In particular, a cluster analysis identified PACs in 35 different plant famili…

Localization and interactions of melatonin in dry cholesterol/lecithin mixed reversed micelles used as cell membrane models

2005

The state of melatonin confined in dry cholesterol/lecithin mixed reversed micelles dispersed in CCl4 was investigated using 1H-NMR and FT-IR spectroscopies as a function of the melatonin to lecithin molar ratio (R(MLT)) and of the cholesterol to lecithin molar ratio (R(CHL)). An analysis of experimental results leads to the hypothesis that, independent of R(MLT) and as a consequence of anisotropic melatonin/lecithin, melatonin/cholesterol and cholesterol/lecithin interactions, melatonin is totally solubilized in reversed micelles. Melatonin is mainly located in and oriented in the nanodomain constituted by the hydrophilic groups of cholesterol and lecithin. A competition of melatonin and c…
