Identification of Casein Phosphopeptides in β-casein and Commercial Hydrolysed Casein by Mass Spectrometry

Casein phosphopeptides (CPPs) in commercial hydrolysed casein (CE90CPP) and in β-CN (β-CN) after simulated gastrointestinal digestion (gastric stage pepsin, pH =2, 37°C 2h) and intestinal stage (pancreatic-bile extract, pH =5.2, 37°C 2h) were sequenced by on-line reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionisation tandem mass spectrometry (RP-HPLC-ESIMS/MS). In β-CN digest five peptides that contained four to five phosphate groups and the cluster sequence SpSpSpEE (residues 17-21) were identified. Behavioural responses of fish groups exposed to a predatory threat under elevated CO2

Most of the studies dealing with the effects of ocean acidification (OA) on fish behaviour tested individuals in isolation, even when the examined species live in shoals in the wild. Here we evaluated the effects of elevated CO2 concentrations (i.e. ∼900 μatm) on the shelter use and group cohesion of the gregarious damselfish Chromis viridis using groups of sub-adults exposed to a predatory threat. Results showed that, under predatory threat, fish reared at elevated CO2 concentrations displayed a risky behaviour (i.e. decreased shelter use), whereas their group cohesion was unaffected. The authors revised the genus Morgenia Karsch, 1890 which now consists of eight species, of which three are here newly described (Morgeniaplurimaculata Massa &amp;amp; Moulin, sp. n., M.angustipinnata Massa, sp. n., and M.lehmannorum Heller &amp;amp; Massa, sp. n.). Six of the eight species occur in the Tri National Sangha (TNS) comprising Dzanga-Sangha Special Reserve and Dzanga Ndoki National Park (Central African Republic), whose high biodiversity has been recently highlighted. Effect of the cytochrome P-450 inactivator 1-aminobenzotriazole on the metabolism of chlortoluron and isoproturon in wheat

Abstract Roots of young wheat plants ( Triticum aestivum cv Clement) were treated with [ 14 C]chlortoluron or [ 14 C]isoproturon alone or mixed with 1-aminobenzotriazole (ABT), a mechanism-based inactivator of cytochrome P -450 monooxygenases. Radioactivity extracted from shoots slightly decreased during periods of metabolism, this decrease being reduced by ABT in the case of isoproturon. ABT strongly inhibited the metabolism of both herbicides. Accumulation of metabolites was generally depressed in the presence of ABT; however, levels of the free N -monodemethylated derivatives were little or not affected. Metabolism of chlortoluron in tolerant species: possible role of cytochrome p-450 mono-oxygenases

Summary Pathways of chlortoluron metabolism were compared in excised leaves of four tolerant species, namely wheat (Triticum aestivum var Clement), Bromus sterilis, Galium aparine and Veronica persica. The herbicide was principally detoxified by hydroxylation of the ring methyl in wheat and by N-dealkylation in Veronica persica. Both pathways were involved in Bromus sterilis and Galium aparine. p-Hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase catalyses the transformation of p-hydroxyphenylpyruvate into homogentisate. In plants this enzyme has a crucial role because homogentisate is the aromatic precursor of all prenylquinones. Furthermore this enzyme was recently identified as the molecular target for new families of potent herbicides. In this study we examine precisely the localization of p-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase activity within carrot cells.
