Synthesis and anti-HIV activity of 2,3-diaryl-1,3-thiazolidin-4-ones

2002

Several 1,3-thiazolidin-4-ones bearing a 2,6-dihalophenyl group at C-2 and a variously substituted phenyl ring at N-3 have been synthesized and tested as anti-HIV agents. The results of the in vitro tests showed that some of them proved to be effective inhibitors of HIV-1 replication.

Serum Malondialdehyde Correlates with Therapeutic Efficiency of High Activity Antiretroviral Therapies (HAART) in HIV-1 Infected Children

2002

Serum malondialdehyde (MDA) levels are increased in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected children, as it happens also in infected adult individuals. Introduction of high activity antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has promoted an intense decline in morbidity and mortality of these patients. Here we present data on the effect of HAART on serum MDA of HIV+ children and compare them with levels prior to HAART. MDA levels reflect, as other markers do, the HAART-induced clinical improvement and probably also the pro-oxidant/antioxidant side effects of the different drugs used. The results herein allow the proposal of including serum MDA levels as an additional parameter for the clinical manag…

World Influence of Infectious Diseases from Wikipedia Network Analysis

2019

AbstractWe consider the network of 5 416 537 articles of English Wikipedia extracted in 2017. Using the recent reduced Google matrix (REGOMAX) method we construct the reduced network of 230 articles (nodes) of infectious diseases and 195 articles of world countries. This method generates the reduced directed network between all 425 nodes taking into account all direct and indirect links with pathways via the huge global network. PageRank and CheiRank algorithms are used to determine the most influential diseases with the top PageRank diseases being Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and Malaria. From the reduced Google matrix we determine the sensitivity of world countries to specific diseases integrat…

Molecular Classification of N-Aryloxazolidinone-5-carboxamides as Human Immunodeficiency Virus Protease Inhibitors

2015

Algorithms for classification and taxonomy are proposed in this chapter based information entropy (IE) and its production. The 38  N- aryloxazolidinone-5-carboxamides (NCAs), for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) protease (PR) inhibition, are classified using seven characteristic chemical properties of different moieties: R 1/2 , R 3–6 on different phenyls and R 7 . Many classification algorithms are based on IE. When applying some procedures to moderate-sized sets, excessive number of results appear compatible with the data and suffer combinatorial explosion. However, after the equipartition conjecture (EC), one has a selection criterion among different variants that results from classifi…

Table of periodic properties of human immunodeficiency virus inhibitors

2010

Classification algorithms are proposed based on information entropy. The feasibility of mixing a given human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) inhibitor with dissimilar ones is studied. The 31 inhibitors are classified by their structural chemical properties. Many classification algorithms are based on information entropy. An excessive number of results appear compatible with the data and suffer combinatorial explosion. However, after the equipartition conjecture one has a selection criterion. According to this conjecture, the best configuration is that in which entropy production is most uniformly distributed. The structural elements of an inhibitor can be ranked according to their inhibitory a…

Sexual Compulsivity Scale: Adaptation and Validation in the Spanish Population

2013

Sexual compulsivity has been studied in relation to high-risk behavior for sexually transmitted infections. The aim of this study was the adaptation and validation of the Sexual Compulsivity Scale to a sample of Spanish young people. This scale was applied to 1,196 (891 female, 305 male) Spanish college students. The results of principal components factor analysis using a varimax rotation indicated a two-factor solution. The reliability of the Sexual Compulsivity Scale was found to be high. Moreover, the scale showed good temporal stability. External correlates were examined through Pearson correlations between the Sexual Compulsivity Scale and other constructs related with HIV prevention. …

Política de la supervivencia / Politics of Survival

2017

Marta Dillon and Joaquín Hurtado: chronicles of a chronic disease

2017
