Magnetic materials based on layered double hydroxides: chemical design, processing and electrochemical applications
2018
Reduction of tris(benzene-1,2-dithiolate)molybdenum(VI) by hydroxide ions in dry tetrahydrofuran solution.
2001
Tris(benzene-1,2-dithiolate)molybdenum(VI) reacts rapidly and quantitatively with tetrabutylammonium hydroxide to yield the corresponding Mo(V) and Mo(IV) complexes and hydrogen peroxide; the reaction has been executed in dry tetrahydrofuran where the reaction rate shows a fair dependence on complex and OH2 concentrations. July 2003: 62-year-old female with progressive muscular weakness
2004
The July 2003 Case of the Month (COM). A 62-year-old female patient experienced progressive muscular weakness over the last ten years, involving shoulder and pelvic girdle muscles, paraspinal and facial muscles. A biopsy was taken from the left deltoid muscle where hepatitis vaccination had taken place 4 weeks previously. The specimen revealed macrophagic myofasciitis due to the injection of aluminium-bound vaccines. The finding can be reproduced experimentally by injecting vaccines in rats. The pathomechanism is supposed to involve immune stimulation due to long term persistence of the adjuvant. Macrophagic myofasciitis has been suggested to occasionally cause myopathy but is supposed to b…
ChemInform Abstract: Facile Synthesis and Characterization of Monocrystalline Cubic ZrO2Nanoparticles.
2008
Abstract Crystalline ZrO2 nanoparticles were prepared from zirconium isopropoxide by slow hydrolysis and subsequent hydrothermal treatment of solutions containing various amounts of sodium hydroxide at 180 °C. Whereas moderately basic solutions lead to the formation of nanoparticles of monoclinic ZrO2 with plate-like morphology, and nanoparticles of the cubic ZrO2 high-temperature polymorph with diameters of approx. 5 nm were obtained from strongly basic solutions. The morphology, structure and properties of as-synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using HRTEM, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, UV–vis, PL spectroscopy and BET measurements. The formation of both, the monoclinic and the cubic p…
Portlandite solubility and Ca 2+ activity in presence of gluconate and hexitols
2021
The current paper investigates the impact of gluconate, D-sorbitol, D-mannitol and D-galactitol on calcium speciation at high pH values by i) solubility measurements of portlandite (Ca(OH)2) and ii) potentiometric titration measurements of calcium salt solutions. Thermodynamic modeling was used to fit the chemical activities of Ca2+ and OH- ions and thus to determine the strength and kind of the different Ca-organic-hydroxide complexes. The strength of complex formation with Ca decreases in the order gluconate >> sorbitol > mannitol > galactitol, which follows the same order as sorption on portlandite. Heteropolynuclear gluconate complexes with calcium and hydroxide dominate the…
Variability of pesticide mineralization in individual soil aggregates of millimeter size
2002
The aim of this study was to compare the 2,4-D mineralization in individual aggregates of millimeter size (3 size classes and 96 aggregates per size class). 14 CO 2 coming from the mineralization of 14 C ring-labeled 2,4-D and evolved by each aggregate incubated in microtiter plates was trapped with barium hydroxide on filters and measured using a Phosphorimager. We observed an important variability of mineralization in aggregates of each size class and in the different size classes of aggregates. The main factors responsible for these fluctuations could be a heterogeneous distribution of degrading microorganisms or of available carbon necessary for cometabolism.
The XP-Endo Finisher for the removal of calcium hydroxide paste from root canals and from the apical third
2017
Background The aim was to compare the efficacy of the passive ultrasonic irrigation PUI and the Xp-endo Finisher (FKG-Dentaire, La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland) in removing the calcium hydroxide paste from root canals and from the apical third. Material and methods Sixty-eight root canals of single-rooted teeth were shaped using the BT-Race files (FKG-Dentaire, La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland). Ca(OH)2 was placed in all samples except for the negative control group (n=4). Remaining teeth were randomly divided into three groups: G1-Xp (n=30), G2-PUI (n=30) and the positive control group (n=4). Removal procedure consisted of three repeated one-minute-cycles. Samples were split longitudinally, p…

Influence of antioxidants intercalated layered double hydroxides (AO-LDHs) on the thermo-oxidative stability of pla and pe based nanocomposites
2016
Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are excellent host matrices for storage and delivery of antioxidants (AOs).
Effects of phenolic-like intercalated layered double hydroxides on poly(lactic acid) based nanocomposites
2015
Two phenolic-like antioxidants (AOs), 3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionate and 6-hydroxy-2,5,7,8-tetrametilcromano-2-carboxylate anions, were intercalated by anion exchange in layered double hydroxides (LDHs). The two AO-LDHs were dispersed by ultrasound-assisted solution mixing in poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and the thermal oxidation stability of the composites was evaluated following the variation of the molecular weight by SEC, after a controlled aging process, and determining the oxidation induction time (OIT) by DSC. The results evidenced that the intercalation of both the AO molecules within the LDH galleries prevent their own thermal and thermo-oxidative degradation as well a…
