The diagnosis of chronic endometritis in infertile asymptomatic women: a comparative study of histology, microbial cultures, hysteroscopy, and molecu…

2017

Background Chronic endometritis is a persistent inflammation of the endometrial mucosa caused by bacterial pathogens such as Enterobacteriaceae, Enterococcus, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Mycoplasma, and Ureaplasma. Although chronic endometritis can be asymptomatic, it is found in up to 40% of infertile patients and is responsible for repeated implantation failure and recurrent miscarriage. Diagnosis of chronic endometritis is based on hysteroscopy of the uterine cavity, endometrial biopsy with plasma cells being identified histologically, while specific treatment is determined based on microbial culture. However, not all microorganisms implicated are easily or readily culturable needing …

Air bubble location inside the uterus after transfer: is the embryo really there?

2007

Objective To demonstrate that the location of the air bubble after embryo transfer (ET) does not necessarily indicate the final embryo location. Design Case report. Setting Private clinic. Patient(s) A couple with primary infertility for whom a diagnosis of bicornuate uterus with a very open angle between horns was confirmed. Intervention(s) Laparoscopy and hysteroscopy were performed before an IVF cycle in which a single embryo was replaced. Main Outcome Measure(s) Air bubble image immediately after ET and gestational sac location 3 weeks later. Result(s) Immediately after a single ET, the air bubble was seen in the left uterine horn. Three weeks later, a gestational sac was seen in the ri…

Initial experience of a new linear everting falloposcopy system in comparison with hysterosalpingography

1993

Objective To assess the endolumenal portion of the fallopian tube from ostium to fimbria using a specially designed linear everting catheter and microendoscope. The study compared falloposcopy results with those obtained with hysterosalpingography (HSG) in the same patients and explored the system's ability to classify internal tubal conditions. Design A prospective study of a new diagnostic technique, falloposcopy, versus conventional means of evaluating tubal status. Setting A tertiary university infertility center. Patients Eighteen infertile patients with a previous history of infertility of at least 2 years duration. Intervention Diagnostic falloposcopy was performed on a total of 31 t…

Hysteroscopic resection of the septum improves the pregnancy rate of women with unexplained infertility: a prospectine controlled trial

2009

Objective: To assess fecundity of infertile women after surgical correction of uterine septum. Design: Prospective controlled trial. Setting: Three academic infertility clinics. Patient(s): Forty-four women affected by septate uterus and otherwise unexplained infertility represented the study group (group A), and 132 women with unexplained infertility were enrolled as control subjects (group B). Intervention(s): Hysteroscopic metroplasty was performed in group A, and group B was managed expectantly. All women were followed-up for 1 year without any other intervention. Main Outcome Measure(s): Fecundity rate was calculated as the number of pregnancies per 100 person-months Result(s): Pregnan…

Control of intrauterine device insertion with three-dimensional ultrasound: is it the future?

1996

A comparative study was designed to determine whether three-dimensional transvaginal sonography (3D-TVS) offered advantages over two-dimensional transvaginal sonography (2D-TVS) for the identification and location of IUDs in 66 asymptomatic women. Hysteroscopy was performed in cases in which there was a discrepancy between the information obtained by both methods (n = 14). In eight cases (12.2%) the IUD was misidentified with 2D-TVS. In six cases (9.1%) it was not possible to identify the device model with 2D-TVS. In two cases (3.0%) 2D-TVS failed to identify the position of the device. In contrast, all IUDs were identified and located accurately with 3D-TVS. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Cold loops applied to bipolar resectoscope: A safe "one-step" myomectomy for treatment of submucosal myomas with intramural development

2015

AIM: To assess the safety and efficacy of cold loop myomectomy applied to bipolar resectoscope to perform "one-step" myomectomy of submucosal myomas with intramural involvement. METHODS: Seventy-two patients with at least one symptomatic G1 or G2 myoma (Wamsteker's classification) underwent cold loop myomectomy from January 2011 to January 2013. All surgical procedures were performed using a 26Fr resectoscope and bipolar energy source. At one month after the procedure, all patients underwent an office hysteroscopy check-up. A subgroup of seven infertile patients underwent an office hysteroscopy every two-weeks to evaluate recovery time of the myometrial fovea. RESULTS: Resectoscopic myomect…

Improved accuracy of hysteroembryoscopic biopsies for karyotyping early missed abortions

2003

Abstract Objective To assess the potential of direct embryo and chorion biopsies obtained by hysteroembryoscopy for karyotyping early missed abortions. Design Clinical prospective descriptive study. Setting Instituto Valenciano de Infertilidad, Valencia, Spain. Patient(s) Sixty-eight women (71 gestational sacs) with missed abortions. The gestational age on ultrasound was 6.3 weeks (range, 4–10 weeks). Intervention(s) Transcervical hysteroembryoscopy before curettage. Main outcome measure(s) Comparison between the cytogenetic results from hysteroembryoscopic biospies and those of the curettage material. Result(s) Hysteroembryoscopic biopsies could be taken in 97.2% of the gestational sacs. D…

Role of leuprolide acetate depot in hysteroscopic surgery: a controlled study.

1993

Objective To evaluate leuprolide acetate (LA) depot (Enantone Depot, Takeda, Italy) when administered preoperatively in hysteroscopic surgery. Design Prospective, comparative study. Setting University Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Patients One hundred ninety-three patients (114 pretreated with LA depot and 79 controls) who underwent hysteroscopic surgery for uterine septa (group A), submucous fibroids (group B), and abnormal uterine bleeding (group C). Results In groups B and C there was a significant reduction in the operating time, bleeding during the operation, and the amount of distention medium required after LA depot administration, but no significant differences in surgical fe…
