Educación Física bilingüe y pedagogía crítica: una aplicación basada en el Judo

2015

Considering the impact that the introduction of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is having in Europe, this paper presents a model of application for Physical Education in English. This model improves particularly the acquisition of a foreign language and proposes at the same time a comprehensive learning scenario based on the principles of the critical pedagogy. From the 4Cs framework of CLIL methodology («content», «communication», «culture» and «cognition») the paper offers an in-depth reflection on the possibilities of introducing the critical pedagogy approach to Physical Education, thus increasing its educational potential. First, we argue about the links between critica…

Towards the understanding at the molecular level of the structured-water absorption and fluorescence spectra: a fingerprint of π-stacked water

2013

An intriguing absorption peak around ∼270 nm (4.59 eV) has been recurrently recorded in aqueous solutions of salts, sugars, amino acids, in the free-solute zone (exclusion zone) adjacent to various hydrophilic surfaces, as well as a transient in the conversion process of ice to water. The corresponding associated fluorescence has been observed in the interval 480–490 nm (2.58–2.53 eV). The spectroscopic features have been related to the presence of structured water but its nature remains incompletely understood. On the basis of high-level ab initio computations, the main absorption feature of structured water is assigned to the presence of two π-stacked ground-state water molecules, prefera…

Exploring new water soluble bridged dicopper(II) assemblies: Synthesis, structure, spectroscopic characterization, properties, and their interactions…

2021

Abstract Three new water soluble dimetallic copper(II) complexes, [Cu(H2O)5][Cu2(cpdp)(µ-O2As(CH3)2)]2Br2·13.83H2O·0.67CH3OH (1), [Cu2(Hcpdp)(µ-SO4)]·5H2O (2) and [Cu2(cpdp)(µ-pz)]·16H2O (3) (H3cpdp = N,N′-Bis[2-carboxybenzomethyl]-N,N′-Bis[2-pyridylmethyl]-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol; (CH3)2AsO2− = cacodylate; SO42− = sulfate; pz− = pyrazolate) have been successfully synthesized and characterized for the investigation of coordination/binding aspects with biologically significant monosaccharide, d -glucosamine. Preparation of 1, 2 and 3 has been achieved by carrying out reaction of H3cpdp with stoichiometric quantities of CuCl2·2H2O/NaO2As(CH3)2·3H2O, CuSO4·5H2O and CuCl2·2H2O/1H-pyrazole, respe…

Selective recognition of fluoride anion in water by a copper(II) center embedded in a hydrophobic cavity

2014

The ability of a water-soluble pentacationic calix[6]arene-based CuII complex to bind anions in water has been explored. Quite remarkably, the complex exhibits strong and selective fluoride binding in the pH range of 6–7. The binding constant at pH 5.9 was evaluated to be 85 000 M−1, which is one of the highest values ever reported for a fluoride probe in water and at this pH. The complex also binds chloride ions, but 1000 times less efficiently. The combination of the calix[6]arene hydrophobic cavity with the CuII complex, presenting its labile site in the endo position, is the reason for the selective recognition process. The single crystal X-ray structure of the organo-soluble parent com…

Oxidation of oxalate ion in aqueous suspensions of TiO2 by photocatalysis and ozonation

2005

Abstract Oxalate anion has been oxidized in aqueous alkaline solution by using ozonation and photocatalysis in the presence of TiO 2 . A batch annular reactor has been used for carrying out reactivity runs in the presence of air/ozone, air/ozone/near UV irradiation, air/ozone/TiO 2 , air/near UV-irradiated TiO 2 and air/ozone/near UV-irradiated TiO 2 . The Langmuir–Hinshelwood kinetic model adequately describes the photocatalytic results obtained at different reaction conditions and allows determining the values of the kinetic and equilibrium adsorption constants. The contemporary presence of photocatalysis and ozonation shows a significant improvement of the process performance as the oxid…

Single Molecule Spectroscopy of Oriented Recombinant Trimeric Light Harvesting Complexes of Higher Plants

2002

The bleaching dynamics of reconstituted single light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b investigated. The complexes containing one histidine6 tag per monomeric subunit were immobilised predominantly in a defined orientation with their symmetry axis perpendicular to a Ni-ion-containing surface allowing for the first time the examination of single LHCIIb in an aqueous environment. Most complexes exhibit photobleaching in one step, indicating coupling between the monomeric subunits leading to an energy transfer between adjacent subunits. Differences in bleaching behaviour between these and previous observations with single LHCIIb are discussed.

Halogen-containing BODIPY derivatives for photodynamic therapy

2019

Abstract Two iodinated (1 and 2) and two brominated (3 and 4) BODIPY-based photosensitizers are prepared and characterized using slightly modified synthetic procedures previously described. 1–4 present intense absorption bands in the 510–540 nm interval and very weak emissions due to the presence of halogen atoms in their structure. Irradiation of aqueous solutions of 1–4 with visible light (wavelength > 475 nm) induce the generation of singlet oxygen with quantum yields of ca. 0.62–0.66 for the photosensitizers containing iodine atoms (1 and 2) and of ca. 0.16–0.21 for the brominated counterparts (3 and 4). In vitro studies carried out with HeLa, SCC-13 and HaCaT cell lines and the four ph…

Biomolecular study of the human remains from tomb 5859 in the Etruscan necropolis of Monterozzi Tarquinia (Vitarbo, Italy)

2004

Abstract Archaeological excavation in an Etruscan room tomb, from the Monterozzi necropolis in Tarquinia led to the recovery of four individuals. It was hypothesized that they could be members of a single family group. As both archaeological data and classical anthropological analysis provided little information in this direction, ancient DNA (aDNA) was extracted from bone and tooth fragments of the individuals. For each subject HVR-I of the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) was cloned and sequenced. To identify the sex of the individuals, amelogenine and SRY genes were analysed. Short tandem repeat (STR) characterization was also performed. DNA studies were preceded by the evaluation of amino acid…

Self-diffusion of silicon in molybdenum disilicide

2004

The self-diffusion of silicon in single crystal MoSi2 was studied by means of a radiotracer technique using the short-lived radioisotope 31Si (half-life ), which was produced and implanted into the samples at the ion-guide isotope separator on-line device at the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland. Diffusion annealing and subsequent serial sectioning of the specimens were performed immediately after the radiotracer implantation. In the entire temperature region investigated (835–1124 K), the 31Si diffusivities in both principal directions of the tetragonal MoSi2 crystals obey Arrhenius laws, where the diffusion perpendicular to the tetragonal axis is faster than parallel to it. In previous s…

On the origin of mongrels: evolutionary history of free-breeding dogs in Eurasia

2015

Although a large part of the global domestic dog population is free-ranging and free-breeding, knowledge of genetic diversity in these free-breeding dogs (FBDs) and their ancestry relations to pure-breed dogs is limited, and the indigenous status of FBDs in Asia is still uncertain. We analyse genome-wide SNP variability of FBDs across Eurasia, and show that they display weak genetic structure and are genetically distinct from pure-breed dogs rather than constituting an admixture of breeds. Our results suggest that modern European breeds originated locally from European FBDs. East Asian and Arctic breeds show closest affinity to East Asian FBDs, and they both represent the earliest branching…
