The Electronic Historical Latvian Dictionary Based on the Corpus of Early Written Latvian Texts This article deals with the development of the Electronic Historical Latvian Dictionary (http://www.tezaurs.lv/lvvv) based on the Corpus of Early Written Latvian Texts (http://www.korpuss.lv/senie/). Some issues concerning the compilation and processing of the corpus data are discussed and the main sources added to the Corpus during the four-year project are described: the 16th c. Lord’s Prayers , 17th c. dictionaries, texts of oaths and laws, religious texts and so-called dedication poetry. This essay offers a sampling of a multilingual contrastive analysis of poems by Ausiàs March and the ones in «Tirant lo Blanch» (original versions and their respective translations) as regards locutions, collocations and phraseology. These elements are fully characteristic of the literary language of any author and, at the same time, they indicate his degree of command of his vehicular language or of the language for literary creation. Abstract A crucial component of language is represented by the prosodic system because it provides essential elements to speaker about how a sentence should be interpreted or intended (Fodor, 2002). Increasing interest from researchers also relates to the understanding of figurative language (Levorato, & Cacciari, 2002). In the figures of speech that the speaker wants the listener intends something more or different than what is explicitly stated (Glucksberg, 2001). Idiomas rakstos par tirgvedību

Šīs bakalaura darbs sniedz padziļinātu analīzi par idiomām rakstos par tirgvedību. Lai veiktu pētījumu, kvalitatīvā un kvantitatīvā analīze tika izmantota. Praktiskās daļas rezultāti liecina, ka pārsvarā vienā rakstā ir viena idioma. Lielākā daļa idiomu funkcionē kā darbības vārdi un lietvārdi. Mazāk ir idiomas kas funkcionē kā īpašības vārdi un apstākļa vārdi. Vismazāk idiomu funkcionē kā prievārdi. Korpusa analīze norāda, ka idiomas galvenokārt tiek izmantotas, lai padarītu angļu valodu krāsaināku, bet mazāk parādījās idiomas, kas tiek izmantotas, lai teksts šķistu interesantāks. Bakalaura darbs ir veltīts īpašvārdu, reāliju, metaforu un idiomu tulkošanas stratēģiju izpētei. Darba mērķis ir veikt komparatīvo, kvalitatīvo un kvantitatīvo analīzi korpusam, kas sastāv no četrām grupām – īpašvārdi, reālijas, metaforas un idiomas, franču-latviešu valodu kombinācijā, lai noskaidrotu, kuras stratēģijas ir vispiemērotākās to tulkošanai. Korpusa izveidei tika izmantotas divas grāmatas – Žila Verna grāmata « Astoņdesmit dienās apkārt zemeslodei » un tās tulkojums, ko veicis Andrejs Upīts. Bakalaura darbs sastāv no divām daļām. Changes of meaning due to changes of articles: A study of singular count nouns in post-verbal position in Italian

'Essi fecero un muro' vs. 'Essi fecero muro': on the surface, these Italian sentences differ only for the presence of an article before the post-verbal noun (PVN) 'muro', literally 'wall'. Despite this minor divergence, their VPs vary greatly in meaning: the former can be rendered as 'They built a wall', the latter as 'They put up resistance'. In Italian, many other nouns behave as 'muro' does above. The meanings come from distinct structures: PVNs preceded by an article are direct objects. Bare PVNs, at times the very same noun, can either pass tests for direct object-hood or show distinct syntactic ties with the verb.
