Raman study and theoretical calculations of strain in GaN quantum dot multilayers

2006

Changes in strain and phonon mode energy in stacks of self-assembled GaN quantum dots embedded in AlN have been studied by means of Raman spectroscopy as a function of the number of periods. The ${E}_{2H}$ phonon modes related to the quantum dots and AlN spacers are clearly resolved, and their energies allow monitoring the state of strain of the dots and AlN spacers simultaneously. The evolution of the measured phonon frequencies and the associated strains are discussed in comparison with theoretical calculations of the inhomogeneous strain distribution in a system of coherent misfitting inclusions.

Femtosecond digital lensless holographic microscopy to image biological samples

2013

The use of femtosecond laser radiation in digital lensless holographic microscopy (DLHM) to image biological samples is presented. A mode-locked Ti:Sa laser that emits ultrashort pulses of 12 fs intensity FWHM, with 800 nm mean wavelength, at 75 MHz repetition rate is used as a light source. For comparison purposes, the light from a light-emitting diode is also used. A section of the head of a drosophila melanogaster fly is studied with both light sources. The experimental results show very different effects of the pinhole size on the spatial resolution with DLHM. Unaware phenomena on the field of the DLHM are analyzed.

X-ray imaging of the heating zone of non-normal incidence pumped XRL plasma

2006

Soft x-ray emission, above 600 eV, from a grazing incidence pumped Ni-like Mo x-ray laser (GRIP-XRL) [1] plasma was investigated. Using a pinhole camera looking along the target surface, perpendicular to the direction of the XRL emission, spatially-resolved information was obtained with a resolution which was limited only by the pinhole size of 10 μm. The relative distance from the target surface to the plasma zone heated by th e picosecond pulse was investigated for different GRIP angles, energy ratios and delays between the plasma producing and the plasma heating pulses.

Comparison of two portable solid state detectors with an improved collimation and alignment device for mammographic x-ray spectroscopy

2006

We describe a portable system for mammographic x-ray spectroscopy, based on a 2 X 2 X 1 mm3 cadmium telluride (CdTe) solid state detector, that is greatly improved over a similar system based on a 3 X 3 X 2 mm3 cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) solid state detector evaluated in an earlier work. The CdTe system utilized new pinhole collimators and an alignment device that facilitated measurement of mammographic x-ray spectra. Mammographic x-ray spectra acquired by each system were comparable. Half value layer measurements obtained using an ion chamber agreed closely with those derived from the x-ray spectra measured by either detector. The faster electronics and other features of the CdTe detecto…

Examining the utility of pinhole-type screens for lightfield display

2021

The use of microlens arrays for lightfield display has the drawback of providing images with strong chromatic aliasing. To overcome this problem, pinhole-type lightfield monitors are proposed. This paper is devoted to evaluating the capability for such lightfield monitors to offer the user a convincing 3D experience with images with enough brightness and continuous aspect. Thus, we have designed a psychophysical test specifically adapted for lightfield monitors, which allowed us to confirm the usability of pinhole-type monitors.

Confocal scanning microscope using a CCD camera as a pinhole-detector system

2011

We report a scheme for a detector system of confocal microscopes. In our scheme the pinhole and the large area detector are subtituted by a CCD camera. The numerical integration of the intensities acquired by the active pixels emulates the signal acquired by the detector. To demonstrate the utility of the system we efficiently performed an experiment of substractive-image confocal microscopy

On global solutions of the Maxwell-Dirac equations

1987

We prove, for the Maxwell-Dirac equations in 1+3 dimensions, that modified wave operators exist on a domain of small entire test functions of exponential type and that the Cauchy problem, inR+×R3, has a unique solution for each initial condition (att=0) which is in the image of the wave operator. The modification of the wave operator, which eliminates infrared divergences, is given by approximate solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, for a relativistic electron in an electromagnetic potential. The modified wave operator linearizes the Maxwell-Dirac equations to their linear part.

Strange vegetation: Emotional undercurrents of Tove Jansson’s Moominvalley in November

2018

This article investigates the emotional undercurrents of Tove Jansson’s Moominvalley in November. I argue that one of the main characters of Jansson’s book is the autumn forest that surrounds the abandoned Moomin house. The decomposing forest is not just an emblem of the inner lives of the guests that gather in the house but is an active character itself: an ambiguous life form that creeps in the house and must be expelled from its living core. I further demonstrate that the emotion of disgust has a crucial role in Jansson’s narrative, and that an adequate analysis of the intentional content of disgust allows us to see what is at issue in the relations between the characters. In my reading,…

Raamatunselitystä ja huolta lähimmäisistä : Jyväskylän NMKY:n ja Jyväskylän NNKY:n viisi ensimmäistä toimintavuotta

2008

Tutkimuksen tehtävänä on selvittää oliko Jyväskylään 1800-luvun viimeisellä vuosikymmenellä perustetuilla Nuorten Miesten Kristillisellä Yhdistyksellä ja Nuorten Naisten Kristillisellä Yhdistyksellä minkäänlaista yhteiskunnallista auttamistoimintaa yhdistysten ensimmäisinä toimintavuosina. Tutkimuksen näkökulma on sosiaalihistoriallinen, mutta liittyy sosiaalityön tieteenalaan keskittymällä tutkimaan sosiaalityön historiaan oleellisena osana kuuluvaa virallisen vaivaishoidon rinnalla tehtyä vapaaehtoista auttamistyötä. Lisäksi yhdistystoiminnan alkaminen Jyväskylässä liittyy aikakauden yleiseen sosiaalisten ongelmien lisääntymiseen, uusien ratkaisumallien etsimiseen tilanteessa ja tätä kaut…
