Abatement of styrene waste gas emission by biofilter and biotrickling filter: comparison of packing materials and inoculation procedures.

The removal of styrene was studied using 2 biofilters packed with peat and coconut fibre (BF1-P and BF2-C, respectively) and 1 biotrickling filter (BTF) packed with plastic rings. Two inoculation procedures were applied: an enriched culture with strain Pseudomonas putida CECT 324 for biofilters and activated sludge from a municipal wastewater treatment plant for the BTF. Inlet loads (ILs) between 10 and 45 g m-3 h-1 and empty bed residence times (EBRTs) from 30 to 120 s were applied. At inlet concentrations ranging between 200 and 400 mg Nm-3, removal efficiencies between 70 and 95% were obtained in the 3 bioreactors. This investigation deals with the control effects of the insect pathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae var. anisopliae on Daktulosphaira vitifoliae. In pot experiments, the soil surrounding phylloxera-infected grapes was inoculated with barley colonised with M. anisopliae. Abstract Transmitted through the fecal–oral route, the hepatitis A virus (HAV) is acquired primarily through close personal contact and foodborne transmission. HAV detection in food is mainly carried out by quantitative RT-PCR (RT-qPCR). The discrimination of infectious and inactivated viruses remains a key obstacle when using RT-qPCR to quantify enteric viruses in food samples. Summary The peroxidase/indoleacetic acid (IAA) oxidase system of plants of Gynura aurantiaca and Lycopersicon esculentum healthy and infected by citrus exocortis viroid (CEV) was studied. In these hosts, the infection induced an increase of both enzymic activities, when they were measured between 40 and 50 d post inoculation. The analysis of isozyme composition by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and specific staining of peroxidase revealed an intensification of most of the zymogram bands as well as the premature appearance of one of the isozymes in the two plants investigated.
