Adapting to a Global Health Challenge: Managing Antimicrobial Resistance in the Nordics

2020

This article explores the adaptation of Norway and Sweden to one of the major challenges to global public health, antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Guided by assumptions derived from institutional theory, the article investigates whether, and, if so, how the AMR problem has affected the two Nordic countries’ administrative systems and frameworks for Nordic cooperation. The article builds on selected literature, expert interviews, and public documents. The findings suggest that the international impact on Norway and Sweden’s managerial adaptation to AMR is limited. Instead, adaptation takes place through incremental change within existing structures for disease prevention and control and follo…

Dyskurs instytucjonalny w Polsce - dobre i złe praktyki komunikacyjne

2016

Coauthorship networks and institutional collaboration patterns in reproductive biology.

2007

Objective Reproductive biology is a highly productive area. By analyzing papers published in the major journals in the period 2003–2005, the collaborative patterns were characterized. Design Original research papers published in 2004 in the journals included in the first quartile of the category "Reproductive Biology" of the Journal Citation Reports (2005) were selected. A bibliometric analysis was carried out with the information obtained, thus building up the networks of coauthorship and institutional collaboration. Result(s) A total of 4,702 papers were analyzed, 96.75% signed in collaboration by two or more authors, the authors per paper index being 5.24; 73.73% of the papers were colla…

The Ethical and Political Contours of Institutional Promotion in Esports : From Precariat Models to Sustainable Practices

2020

This study evaluated five early cases in which esport developer Riot Games made rulings regarding activities and infractions by members of various institutions related to its product, League of Legends. The findings of this study support future theoretical exploration of other esports in seeking a fuller understanding of issues related to consent, power differentials, and roles and behaviors expected of the institutional activities of players and teams in competition. Increased investigation of these—and other—issues from an ethical standpoint could lead to a framework that not only would facilitate future study but also bring opportunities for improvements in practices in concert with nece…

Equity in REDD+: Varying logics in Tanzania

2015

Equity is frequently cited as one of the key design aspects of environmental governance regimes. In the context of Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+), a forest-based climate change mitigation instrument, the manner in which ‘equity’ is understood will be of critical importance for the impacts and acceptance of REDD+ policies and initiatives. Whereas the concept has been extensively studied in the academic literature, references to equity in REDD+ policy debates and documents are often vague, leaving room for various interpretations and modes of implementation. In our case study of the Tanzanian national REDD+ policy domain, we provide a conceptual framework …

Mediated by the giants: Tracing practices, discourses, and mediators of platform isomorphism in a media organization

2022

News media are increasingly interwoven with social media platforms. Building on institutional theory, we trace the repercussions of the platform infrastructure inside a media organization by focusing on organizational discourses and practices in connection with the journalistic use of social media. The empirical material includes interviews, field notes, chat logs, and documents collected from a public service media organization during a 6-month on-site and virtual ethnography. The findings show how platform pressures intertwine with content production, audience representation, journalistic values, and organizational development, thus manifesting the infrastructuralization and institutional…

Transitions in European land-management regimes between 1800 and 2010

2015

Land use is a cornerstone of human civilization, but also intrinsically linked to many global sustainability challenges—from climate change to food security to the ongoing biodiversity crisis. Understanding the underlying technological, institutional and economic drivers of land-use change, and how they play out in different environmental, socio-economic and cultural contexts, is therefore important for identifying effective policies to successfully address these challenges. In this regard, much can be learned from studying long-term land-use change. We examined the evolution of European land management over the past 200 years with the aim of identifying (1) key episodes of changes in land …

From the Normative Heaven to Crude Matter. The Discursive Transformation of Good Government into Governance

2017

International audience; Abstract. The abundant use of the concept of good governance in political and media discourse can lead us to conclude that we are currently encountering a conceptual innovation. In actual fact it is an old concept that has its roots in classical political theory and resists any clear and precise definition. This article aims to reflect on the main changes experienced by the concept of good government and its metamorphosis into governance, by means of an analysis using a narrative of conceptual transformation from a normative logic to a technocratic logic.; Del cielo normativo a la tosca materia. La transformación discursiva del buen gobierno en gobernanza 1 María Áng…
