The cost and the performance are major concerns that the designers of embedded processors shall take into account, especially for market considerations. In order to reduce the cost, embedded systems rely on simple hardware architectures like VLIW (Very Long Instruction Word) processors and they look for compiler support. Understanding a science and math word problem means constructing mental representations at different levels of abstraction. Secondary students have dificulties solving algebraic word problems due to the transition from the concrete representation to the mathematic representation. In order to facilitate the «algebraic translation» of the problems, we adapt a «rule to put a problem into equations» by Puig (1998) and insert it in an experimental methodology devoted to improving the inter-domain transfer in science. Results show the power of the instructional methodology to overcome most of the students’ dificulties, no matters their average academic performance.

This full research paper studies the significance of self-directed learning (SDL) in distance education. A literature review revealed many characteristics related to SDL that are important to success in distance education. The self-directed learning readiness (SDLR) levels of 124 students were gathered for this research, and the results were compared between contact and distance learners. The effect of gender on SDLR and the relationship between SDLR and preference for distance education were examined. This consensus statement from Sports Medicine Australia and the Australian Psychological Society aims to provide guidance to practitioners on the ways that physical activity can be promoted to maximise benefits to mental health.
