Time characteristics of Lévy flights in a steep potential well

2013

Using the method previously developed for ordinary Brownian diffusion, we derive a new formula to calculate the correlation time of stationary Lévy flights in a steep potential well. For the symmetric quartic potential, we obtain the exact expression of the correlation time of steady-state Lévy flights with index α = 1. The correlation time of stationary Lévy flights decreases with an increasing noise intensity and steepness of potential well.

Beams of electrons of low energy (1 to 2 keV) are elastically scattered twice by atomic beams of mercury. A maximum intensity asymmetry of 200δ=31±5 was observed for double 90° scattering of 1500 eV electrons.

The AD and ELENA orbit, trajectory and intensity measurement systems

This paper describes the new Antiproton Decelerator (AD) orbit measurement system and the Extra Low ENergy Antiproton ring (ELENA) orbit, trajectory and intensity measurement system. The AD machine at European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is presently being used to decelerate antiprotons from 3.57 GeV/c to 100 MeV/c for matter vs anti-matter comparative studies. The ELENA machine, presently under commissioning, has been designed to provide an extra deceleration stage down to 13.7 MeV/c. Production of highly charged metal ion beams from organic metal compounds at RIKEN 18 GHz ECRIS

Abstract Intense beams of highly charged metal ions (e.g., 80 μA for Fe13+) are successfully extracted from the 18 GHz ECR Ion Source at RIKEN by feeding vapors of organic metal compounds at room temperature into the ECR plasma chamber: by MIVOC method. The beam intensity of particular metal ion is strongly dependent on the microwave power and served compounds.

Noise Enhanced Stability in an Unstable System

We experimentally detect noise enhanced stability in an unstable physical system. The average escape time from a metastable, periodically driven, system is measured in the stable and unstable regimes in a noisy environment. In the unstable regime, we measure that the average escape time has a maximum for a finite value of the noise intensity. The scaling properties of the average escape time and of the variance of escape times are compared with the predictions obtained for a system in a marginal state.

Emission-Line Intensity Ratios in F[CLC]e[/CLC] [CSC]xvii[/CSC] Observed with a Microcalorimeter on an Electron Beam Ion Trap

We report new observations of emission line intensity ratios of Fe XVII under controlled experimental conditions, using the National Institute of Standards and Technology electron beam ion trap (EBIT) with a microcalorimeter detector. We compare our observations with collisional-radiative models using atomic data computed in distorted wave and R-matrix approximations, which follow the transfer of the polarization of level populations through radiative cascades. Our results for the intensity ratio of the 2p6 1S0-2p53d 1P1 15.014 A line to the 2p6 1S0-2p53d 3D1 15.265 A line are 2.94 ± 0.18 and 2.50 ± 0.13 at beam energies of 900 and 1250 eV, respectively. RFLP analyses with minisatellite probes yield highly informative individual specific banding patterns (genetic fingerprints) (Jeffreys et al.). Because of the complexity of the pattern and marked differences in band intensities a good band resolution and high sensitivity of the probe are essential. By reason of the latter requirement to date most of the RFLP-studies are performed with radioactive probes. Monte Carlo Simulation of Harmonic Generation in GaAs structures operating under large-signal Conditions

By using a multiparticles Monte Carlo technique, with a self-consistently coupled one-dimensional Poisson solver, we investigate the dependence of the nonlinear carrier dynamics in GaAs n+nn+ micro e submicro-structures operating under very intense sub-terahertz signals by: (i) the frequency and the intensity of the excitation signal and (ii) the length of the n region.

Ordinary muon capture studies for the matrix elements in ββ decay

Precise measurement of $\gamma$-rays following ordinary (non-radiative) capture of negative muons by natural Se, Kr, Cd and Sm, as well as isotopically enriched $^{48}$Ti, $^{76}$Se, $^{82}$Kr, $^{106}$Cd and $^{150}$Sm targets was performed by means of HPGe detectors. Energy and time distributions were investigated and total life time of negative muon in different isotopes was deduced. We present a general theory of quantum fluctuations of dissipative structures in nonlinear optical cavities with transverse translation invariance. Perfect squeezing of the transverse momentum, detectable under homodyning, occurs irrespectively of the system parameters.
