Galda teniss

2019

Mechanism of Anesthetic Action: Oxygen Pathway Perturbation Hypothesis

2001

Although more than 150 years have past since the discovery of general anesthetics, how they precisely work remains a mystery. We propose a novel unitary mechanism of general anesthesia verifiable by experiments. In the proposed mechanism, general anesthetics perturb oxygen pathways in both membranes and oxygen-utilizing proteins such that the availabilities of oxygen to its sites of utilization are reduced which in turn triggers cascading cellular responses through oxygen-sensing mechanisms resulting in general anesthesia. Despite the general assumption that cell membranes are readily permeable to oxygen, exiting publications indicate that these membranes are plausible oxygen transport barr…

Multidisciplinary management of Hunter syndrome.

2009

Hunter syndrome is a rare, X-linked disorder caused by a deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme iduronate-2-sulfatase. In the absence of sufficient enzyme activity, glycosaminoglycans accumulate in the lysosomes of many tissues and organs and contribute to the multisystem, progressive pathologies seen in Hunter syndrome. The nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, and musculoskeletal systems can be involved in individuals with Hunter syndrome. Although the management of some clinical problems associated with the disease may seem routine, the management is typically complex and requires the physician to be aware of the special issues surrounding the patient with Hunter syndrome, and a multidiscipl…

Happy Aged People Are All Alike, While Every Unhappy Aged Person Is Unhappy in Its Own Way

2011

Aging of the world’s population represents one of the most remarkable success stories of medicine and of humankind, but it is also a source of various challenges. The aim of the collaborative cross-cultural European study of adult well being (ESAW) is to frame the concept of aging successfully within a causal model that embraces physical health and functional status, cognitive efficacy, material security, social support resources, and life activity. Within the framework of this project, we show here that the degree of heterogeneity among people who view aging in a positive light is significantly lower than the degree of heterogeneity of those who hold a negative perception of aging. We base…

Seniors in the 21st century: social, medical and psychological support

2021

The subject of the analysis addresses seniors. Social, medical and psychological support can be classified as particularly important considering problems seniors face in their everyday life. This implies the need to narrow down the field of analysis to those aspects that the authors are able to responsibly undertake based on their professional experiences and education. Hence, the idea of this article is to explain and justify the need to develop tridisciplinary cooperation: sociology, medicine and psychology. The analysis of issues related to supporting seniors shows also the need to stimulate the processes of the seniors activation and counteracting social marginalization.

Demenzleitlinien: was in der Praxis ankommen sollte

2012
