Trends in influenza vaccine coverage among primary healthcare workers in Spain, 2008–2011

2013

To evaluate trends in seasonal influenza vaccination coverage in primary healthcare workers (PHCWs) in Spain between 2008 and 2011.We made an anonymous web survey of PHCWs in 2012. Information on attitudes towards and knowledge of influenza vaccine, and immunization in previous seasons was collected. Self-reported vaccination coverage and factors related to vaccination continuity were analysed.Of 5433 workers contacted, 2625 (48.3%) responded to the survey: 47.0% were general practitioners, 10.3% paediatricians and 42.7% nurses. Their reported vaccination rates from seasons 2008-2009 to 2011-2012 decreased over time: 58.4%, 57.4%, 53.2% and 49.3% (linear trend, p0.001). Among workers vaccin…

Improved Nutritional Knowledge in the Obese Adult Population Modifies Eating Habits and Serum and Anthropometric Markers

2020

Multicomponent lifestyle interventions achieve good results in the management of obesity among the adult population. However, their implementation in certain populations poses difficulties. A good level of nutritional knowledge enables people to make changes in their diet that improve their health. This study aims to assess the relationship between nutritional knowledge and nutritional parameters such as dietary intake, anthropometric parameters and biomarkers. A before&ndash

Determinants of Refugee and Migrant Health Status in 10 European Countries: The Mig-HealthCare Project

2020

In this study, we collect and synthesize information on the health status of the refugee/migrant population in ten European countries in order to map refugee/migrant health needs. With this information, we identify areas of intervention and healthcare system strengthening to provide the basis for future health planning and effective healthcare provision to migrants, asylum-seekers and refugees in the European Union (EU). Methods: 1407 migrants in ten European Union countries (consortium members of the Mig-HealthCare project) were surveyed on general health, mental health, and specific diseases using an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and multivariable linear r…

Real-time spatial compound sonography of Achilles tendon in patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia and normal physical examination

2007

This study was undertaken to assess the prevalence and ultrasound features of Achilles tendon xanthomas (ATX) in patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HFH) and normal physical examination studied with high-resolution ultrasonography (HRUS) and, secondarily, to evaluate the role of real-time spatial compound sonography (CS) in terms of image quality. Both Achilles tendons of 40 patients with HFH were studied with HRUS and CS. Two experienced radiologists evaluated by consensus the presence of ATX described as (1) tendon thickening and/or (2) focal hypoechoic areas and the quality of images obtained with the two techniques.Ten out of 80 tendons showed thickening (mean: 11.2…

Attitudes Toward Hypnosis Based on Source of Information and Experience With Hypnosis.

2020

Attitudes and beliefs toward hypnosis are relevant in promoting hypnotic responses, in predicting the efficacy of interventions that include hypnosis, and in reducing iatrogenic effects in hypnotized individuals. The goal of the present study is to test the impact of previous knowledge about hypnosis and past experiences being hypnotized on attitudes and beliefs about hypnosis. A sample of 1,977 Portuguese students participated in the study; they responded to the Valencia Scale of Attitudes and Beliefs Toward Hypnosis-Client Version (VSABH-C) on two different occasions (test-retest method). Significant differences were found (

Intimate partner violence is associated with increased maternal hair cortisol in mother–child dyads

2015

Abstract Background The chronic consequences of intimate partner violence (IPV) on HPA activation are a topic of debate. The current study investigated hair cortisol concentrations in female victims of IPV and their children. Methods A total of 52 mother–child dyads were divided into two groups depending on exposure to IPV: IPV group (n = 27 dyads) and control group (n = 25 dyads). Hair cortisol concentration was measured in 1-cm-long hair strands, representing 30 days of exposure before assessment. PTSD and depression symptoms were assessed in the mother and child. Results Women reporting IPV presented with higher hair cortisol levels, depression and PTSD symptoms severity in comparison to…

Mental Imagery Training Increases Wanting of Rewards and Reward Sensitivity and Reduces Depressive Symptoms.

2017

High reward sensitivity and wanting of rewarding stimuli help to identify and motivate repetition of pleasant activities. This behavioral activation is thought to increase positive emotions. Therefore, both mechanisms are highly relevant for resilience against depressive symptoms. Yet, these mechanisms have not been targeted by psychotherapeutic interventions. In the present study, we tested a mental imagery training comprising eight 10-minute sessions every second day and delivered via the Internet to healthy volunteers (N = 30, 21 female, mean age of 23.8 years, Caucasian) who were preselected for low reward sensitivity. Participants were paired according to age, sex, reward sensitivity, …

Predictors of weight loss after an intensive lifestyle intervention program in obese patients: a 1-year prospective cohort study.

2013

Published Version of an article in the journal: Health and Quality of Life Outcomes. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1186/1477-7525-11-165 Open access Background Studies of lifestyle intervention programs in morbid obesity report large variations in weight loss outcomes. This is reported not only between but also within standardized programs. Such reports point to participants’ characteristics as possible predictors of this outcome. The aim of this prospective cohort study was to identify predictors of weight loss after a 1-year partly residential intensive lifestyle intervention program (ILI). Methods Morbidly obese patients (n=199), all Caucasian, 71% women, mea…

Web Support for weight-loss interventions: PREDIRCAM2 clinical trial baseline characteristics and preliminary results

2018

An ongoing clinical trial is testing the efficacy of web telematic support in a structured program for obesity treatment and diabetes prevention. Participants were recruited from two tertiary-care hospitals and randomized to receive either a telematic intervention (TI) supported by PREDIRCAM2 web platform or a non-telematic intervention (NTI). All receive 1-year follow-up. Both interventions consist of tailored dietary and exercise prescriptions, based on a Mediterranean dietary pattern and general WHO exercise recommendations for adults. At 6 months, both groups have received 7 contacts, 3 exclusively telematic for the TI group. This is a preliminary result intention-to-treat analysis. One…
