Akūta išēmiska insulta pacientu aprūpe pēc intravenozās trombolīzes
2019
2002
OBJECTIVE Comparison between two semiquantitative methods and a quantitative evaluation of myocardial blood flow (MBF) for assessment of myocardial perfusion reserve (MPR) in patients with CAD. MATERIAL AND METHODS 9 patients with coronary stenoses > 50 % were examined with an ECG-gated Saturation Recovery Turbo FLASH sequence by using Gd-DTPA as contrast agent (CA). The entive measurements were performed both during rest and hyperemia induced by adenosine. The up-slopes of the signal-time S(t) curves in the myocardium and left ventricular (LV) cavity were evaluated by a linear fit. MPR was calculated from the original up-slopes of the myocardial S(t) curves and from the up-slopes, which we…
Impairment of the modulatory role of nitric oxide on the endothelin-1-elicited contraction of cerebral arteries: a pathogenetic factor in cerebral va…
1997
OBJECTIVE: Nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) are two endothelium-derived factors probably involved in the pathogenesis of cerebral vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Our aim was twofold, i.e., to ascertain whether endothelial and nonendothelial NO modulates the contractile response of cerebral arteries to ET-1 and to analyze whether this relationship might be impaired after experimental SAH. METHODS: Rings of middle cerebral artery from goats in the control group and from goats with SAH were set up for isometric tension recordings. SAH was induced 3 days before the experiments by infusion of 10 ml of autologous arterial blood through a catheter previously inserted into t…

Coronary Revascularization and Long-Term Survivorship in Chronic Coronary Syndrome
2021
Ischemic heart disease (IHD) persists as the leading cause of death in the Western world. In recent decades, great headway has been made in reducing mortality due to IHD, based around secondary prevention. The advent of coronary revascularization techniques, first coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery in the 1960s and then percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in the 1970s, has represented one of the major breakthroughs in medicine during the last century. The benefit provided by these techniques, especially PCI, has been crucial in lowering mortality rates in acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, in the setting where IHD is most prevalent, namely chronic coronary syndrome (CC…

Impact of Sex Differences and Diabetes on Coronary Atherosclerosis and Ischemic Heart Disease
2018
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) including coronary artery disease (CAD) and ischemic heart disease (IHD) are the main cause of mortality in industrialized countries. Although it is well known that there is a difference in the risk of these diseases in women and men, current therapy does not consider the sexual dimorphism; i.e., differences in anatomical structures and metabolism of tissues. Here, we discuss how genetic, epigenetic, hormonal, cellular or molecular factors may explain the different CVD risk, especially in high-risk groups such as women with diabetes. We analyze whether sex may modify the effects of diabetes at risk of CAD. Finally, we discuss current diagnostic techniques in th…
