Simplified feedback control system for scanning tunneling microscopy

A Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) is one of the most important scanning probe tools available to study and manipulate matter at the nanoscale. In a STM, a tip is scanned on top of a surface with a separation of a few \AA. Often, the tunneling current between tip and sample is maintained constant by modifying the distance between the tip apex and the surface through a feedback mechanism acting on a piezoelectric transducer. This produces very detailed images of the electronic properties of the surface. The feedback mechanism is nearly always made using a digital processing circuit separate from the user computer. FOC with Resolver Implementation for PMSM Drives by Using a Low Cost Atmel SAM3X8E Microcontroller

The aim of this paper is the low-cost experimental implementation of a field oriented control strategy for a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) by using an Atmel SAM3X8E microcontroller, mounted on an Arduino DUE board. Evaluation of the Colorimetric Performance of Single-Sensor Image Acquisition Systems Employing Colour and Multispectral Filter Array

International audience; Single-sensor colour imaging systems mostly employ a colour filter array (CFA). This enables the acquisition of a colour image by a single sensor at one exposure at the cost of reduced spatial resolution. The idea of CFA fit itself well with multispectral purposes by incorporating more than three types of filters into the array which results in multispectral filter array (MSFA). In comparison with a CFA, an MSFA trades spatial resolution for spectral resolution. Quantum dynamics of 16O in collision with ortho- and para-17O17O

Abstract We report full quantum dynamical observables, such as integral and differential cross sections and rate constants, for the 16 O +  17 O 17 O reactive collision process. We particularly emphasize the effect coming from the nonzero nuclear spin of 17 O, leading to two nuclear spin isomers of 34 O 2 , ortho- and para- 34 O 2 which can be studied independently and behave differently. A comparison with the 16 O +  18 O 18 O collision is given. We find that processes involving 17 O 17 O are always faster than with 18 O 18 O.

Gas-Phase Synthesis of the Elusive Trisilicontetrahydride Species (Si3H4)

The bimolecular gas-phase reaction of ground-state atomic silicon (Si; 3P) with disilane (Si2H6; 1A1g) was explored under single-collision conditions in a crossed molecular beam machine at a collision energy of 21 kJ mol–1. Combined with electronic structure calculations, the results suggest the formation of Si3H4 isomer(s) along with molecular hydrogen via indirect scattering dynamics through Si3H6 collision complex(es) and intersystem crossing from the triplet to the singlet surface. The nonadiabatic reaction dynamics can synthesize the energetically accessible singlet Si3H4 isomers in overall exoergic reaction(s) (−93 ± 21 kJ mol–1). Quantum Dynamics of the 17O + 32O2 Collision Process

We report full quantum integral and differential cross sections and rate constants for the 17O + 32O2 reactive process. This constitutes the first quantum scattering study of the 17O16O16O system. We emphasize the comparison with the 18O + 32O2 collision in close connection to the mass-independent fractionation (hereafter referred to as MIF) puzzle for ozone in atmospheric chemistry. We find similar general trends in the cross sections and rate constants for both rare isotopes, but we note some singular behaviors peculiar to the use of 17O isotope, particularly at the lowest collision energies.

Quantum stereodynamics of the 18O+16O16O→16O18O+16O exchange reaction at low collision energy

Abstract We present a quantum study of stereodynamics of the 18 O + 16 O 16 O ( v = 0 , j = 1 ) → 16 O 18 O ( v ′ = 0 , j ′ ) + 16 O exchange reaction at a collision energy E coll = 0.01 eV . Polarization moments of the reactants have been computed and stereodynamical portraits have been generated. The results show that the reactant preferred relative orientations are strongly dependent on the scattering angle and on the product rotational states.

A visible-light photoredox functionalization of 3,4-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazin-2-ones through a Friedel-Crafts reaction with indoles using an inexpensive organophotoredox catalyst is described. The reaction uses a dual catalytic system that is formed by a photocatalyst simple and cheap, 9,10-phenanthrenedione, and a Lewis acid, Zn(OTf)2. 5W white LEDs are used as visible-light source and oxygen from air as a terminal oxidant, obtaining the corresponding products with good yields. The reaction can be extended to other electron-rich arenes.
