Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin johtajien suhtautumista itsensä johtamiseen: missä määrin johtajat arvioivat omaavansa riittävästi osaamista nykyiseen työtehtäväänsä, millaista osaamista johtajat arvioivat tarvitsevansa lisää ja millaisia kehittämistarpeita heillä on? Tutkimusaineisto (N = 87) kerättiin Likert-asteikollisia ja avoimia kysymyksiä sisältäneellä sähköisellä kyselylomakkeella osana täydennyskoulutuksen arviointia ja kehittä…
Case study of a Finnish training program for Chinese school principals

Quality leadership training has a positive effect on school leaders. The data were collected by semi-structured interviews from six Shanghai principals and analyzed by inductive content analysis. The findings showed this training has affected Chinese principals’ work positively, including creating more effective leadership, handling …

Interspace for empathy : engaging with work-related uncertainty through artistic intervention in management education
2022
How can artistic intervention facilitate empathic engagement with work-related uncertainty in postgraduate management education? To examine this, we theorize artistic intervention as creating an interspace of temporarily suspended organizational norms through which empathy as relational knowing can emerge between participants. Drawing on an ethnographic study entitled Becoming in Academia, a nine-month artistic intervention conducted by a group of doctoral students in a Nordic business school (NBS), this paper highlights how an interspace for empathic engagement with work-related uncertainty was created by the participants through three intervention activities: aligning oneself to the other…
Drawing the premises for personalized learning : illustrations of management and accounting
2019
This paper reports on a teaching innovation using participant-generated drawings. Experienced managers were asked to produce a drawing to illustrate their work from an accounting perspective. The drawings were then used to make the managerial context of the participants the explicit starting point for personalized executive learning. This study is the first in the sphere of accounting education and research to take drawing seriously as a learning method. The results of the experiment show how drawing can be further used as a tool in management education by facilitating the visualization of the managerial contexts participants work within. peerReviewed

Double Objective in Mind: Translating American Management Ideas in the Context of Cold War Finland
2021
The transfer of American management ideas was a central part of the Cold War struggle over ideologies. A key mediator was the European Recovery Program, which conveyed American influences to European management specialists. However, a direct influence was not always possible, as in Finland, which officially blocked assistance because of foreign policy considerations. Still, it was among the first countries to follow Harvard University’s lead in launching advanced management training. We examine how and why the focal actors adopted the American model of executive education, and how they managed to translate foreign ideas persuasively to the local business elite. The translation of executive …
