Hippocampal theta-band activity and trace eyeblink conditioning in rabbits.

The authors examined the relationship between hippocampal theta activity and trace eyeblink conditioning. Hippocampal electrophysiological local field potentials were recorded before, during, and after conditioning or explicitly unpaired training sessions in adult male New Zealand White rabbits. As expected, a high relative power of theta activity (theta ratio) in the hippocampus predicted faster acquisition of the conditioned response during trace conditioning but, contrary to previous results obtained using the delay paradigm, only in the initial stage of learning. Reactions of the divalent germylene Ge(ArMe6)2 (ArMe6 = C6H3-2,6-{C6H2-2,4,6-(CH3)3}2) with water or methanol gave the Ge(IV) insertion product (ArMe6)2Ge(H)OH (1) or (ArMe6)2Ge(H)OMe (2), respectively. In contrast, its stannylene congener Sn(ArMe6)2 reacted with water or methanol to produce the Sn(II) species {ArMe6Sn(μ-OH)}2 (3) or {ArMe6Sn(μ-OMe)}2 (4), respectively, with elimination of ArMe6H. Compounds 1–4 were characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy as well as by X-ray crystallography. In vivo localized gastrocnemius subtendon representation within the healthy and ruptured human Achilles tendon

The Achilles tendon (AT) is composed of three distinct in-series elastic subtendons, arising from different muscles in the triceps surae. Independent activation of any of these muscles is thought to induce sliding between the adjacent AT subtendons. We aimed to investigate displacement patterns during voluntary contraction (VOL) and selective transcutaneous stimulation of medial (MGstim) and lateral (LGstim) gastrocnemius between ruptured and healthy tendons, and to examine the representative areas of AT subtendons. Puasona vienādojuma risināšana ir neatņemama elektronu struktūras aprēķinu sastāvdaļa. Atkarībā no pētāmās sistēmas periodiskuma, elektrostatiskajam potenciālam ir izdevīgi pielietot dažādus robežnosacījumus, taču pievienoto plakano viļņu bāzē Puasona vienādojumu risina, izmantojot periodiskus robežnosacījumus. Šajā darbā es implementēju Puasona vienādojuma risināšanas metodes, kas ir piemērotas arī aprēķinos joniem, molekulām, polimēriem un divdimensiju materiāliem. Šāda pieeja saglabā augstu precizitāti, arī samazinot vienības šūnas izmēru. Demonstrēju lielu ieguvumu nelokālas apmaiņas aprēķinos, izmantojot manu implementēto metodi.

Nanoscale etching of III-V semiconductors in acidic hydrogen peroxide solution: GaAs and InP, a striking contrast in surface chemistry

In this study of nanoscale etching for state-of-the-art device technology, the importance of surface chemistry, in particular the nature of the surface oxide, is demonstrated for two III-V materials. Striking differences in etching kinetics were found for GaAs and InP in sulphuric and hydrochloric acidic solutions containing hydrogen peroxide. Under similar conditions, etching of GaAs was much faster, while the dependence of the etch rate on pH, and on H2O2 and acid concentrations also differed markedly for the two semiconductors. Gait variability observed in step duration is predictive of impending adverse health outcomes among apparently healthy older adults and could potentially be evaluated using wearable sensors (inertial measurement units, IMU). The purpose of the present study was to establish the reliability and concurrent validity of gait variability and complexity evaluated with a waist and an ankle-worn IMU. Tässä opinnäytetyössä käsittelemme Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics -menetelmää (SPH) virtausmekaniikan simulaatioissa. Aluksi johdamme nesteen liikettä kuvaavat differentiaaliyhtälöt. Määrittelemme SPH:n diskreetit divergenssi-, gradientti- sekä Laplace-operaattorit avaruuden diskretisoimiseksi. Lisäksi tutkimme SPH:n toimivuutta rajoitetuissa virtauksissa ja esittelemme menetelmiä rajoituksista seuraavien ongelmien korjaamiseksi tutkien erityisesti SPH:n renormalisaatiota.
