Polymer solidification occurring in many processes, like for instance injection molding, compression molding and extrusion, is a complex phenomenon, strongly influenced by the thermo-mechanical history experienced by the material during processing. Kinetics of ascorbic acid degradation in fruit-based infant foods during storage

The kinetics of ascorbic acid (AA) degradation in a fruit-based beikost product added with AA were determined after storage at 4, 25, 37 and 50 °C during 4, 8, 12, 16 and 32 weeks in plastic polypropylene/ethylenevinyl alcohol vacuum packaging. It was confirmed that AA degradation followed an Arrhenius first-order kinetics, with an activation energy of 20.11 ± 0.33 kcal mol−1. No AA losses at 4 °C were recorded during the entire storage period. In contrast, a time - and temperature - dependent decrease (p the degradation rate decreasing from 50 °C to 25 °C, as expected. AA percentage retention at the end of storage ranged between 6.4% (50 °C/16 weeks) and 100.9% (4 °C/32 weeks).

The main objective of this study was to develop a pharmacokinetic model in order to describe the intestinal absorption of erlotinib in rat and to quantify the interaction of levofloxacin on this process in well- and under-nourished rats. Absorption studies were performed in male Wistar rats. Concentration-time profiles in proximal and distal intestine were analysed through non-linear mixed effect modelling using the NONMEM software version 7.3. Transient optical absorption in KNbO3 crystals irradiated with pulsed electron beam

Abstract Transient optical absorption spectra as well as absorption decay kinetics in pure, Mg- and Rb-doped KNbO 3 have been measured at RT after pulsed (10 ns, 0.27 MeV) electron beam irradiation. Three types of short-lived radiation defects are observed with bands peaking at ∼460 nm, ∼780 nm and > 1000nm. The relevant radiation-induced decay processes are discussed.

Modelling biological and chemically induced precipitation of calcium phosphate in enhanced biological phosphorus removal systems

The biologically induced precipitation processes can be important in wastewater treatment, in particular treating raw wastewater with high calcium concentration combined with Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal. Currently, there is little information and experience in modelling jointly biological and chemical processes. This paper presents a calcium phosphate precipitation model and its inclusion in the Activated Sludge Model No 2d (ASM2d). Addition of BrdUrd in combination with prednisolone to HSVi-transformed hamster embryo cells induces an alkaline phosphatase (AP). FdUrd enhances, dThd reduces the inducing capacity of BrdUrd and prednisolone. Induction is prevented by addition of cycloheximide or of cytosine arabinoside. BrdUrd reduces transport and phosphorylation of exogenously applied labeled Urd, especially the amount of UTP, UDP and Urd-diphosphate sugars. The Lineweaver-Burk-plot of uridine-up­take after addition of BrdUrd reveales the characteristics of the mixed type inhibition (competi­tive-noncompetitive).
