Moving to music combines the ability of rhythm and coordination. In relation to the musical and motor development of children, sensorimotor synchronization requires the ability to perceive and perform a steady beat. The present pilot study aimed to investigate the test–retest repeatability of a rhythm coordination test procedure in order to pilot the procedure for children. Test–retest repeatability reflects the variation in measurements taken by the rhythm coordination test on the same participant under the same conditions. This chapter outlines a number of comparisons between Finland and the United Kingdom, in relation to physical development opportunities, Physical Education (PE) and physical activity. In Finland, teaching is a very attractive profession, with just 10 per cent of applicants admitted to be trained as teachers. AbstractAn awareness of school-related antecedents of children’s physiological stress at the beginning of school helps educators to prevent and mitigate children’s stress, the one of the major obstacles to their well-being and academic progress. We aimed to study the effect of reading skills and social competence on first-grade students’ salivary cortisol levels in natural settings. Tämän katsauksen tavoitteena on esitellä ennaltaehkäisevän tuen viitekehystä tukitoimien jäsentämiseen ja kuvata sen etuja tutkimuksen ja oppilaiden yksilöllisen tukemisen yhteydessä. Sekä Suomessa että Yhdysvalloissa koululainsäädäntö määrää, miten lasten kehitystä tuetaan ennaltaehkäisevän tuen avulla. Kummassakin maassa kehitystä ja oppimista tuetaan portaittaisin mallein. Tuen erityisyys, yksilöllisyys ja intensiteetti kasvavat siirryttäessä tuen tasolta toiselle. Molempien maiden malleissa tuen tarpeen tunnistamisen ja tuen menetelmien tulisi olla tutkimusperustaisia eli niiden herkkyydestä ja vaikuttavuudesta tulisi olla tutkimusnäyttöä.
