Simulation of the relative atomic populations of elements 1 ≤ Z ≤89 following charge exchange tested with collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy…
2019
© 2019 The Authors Calculations of the neutralisation cross-section and relative population of atomic states were performed for ions beams (1 ≤ Z ≤ 89) at 5 and 40 keV incident on free sodium and potassium atoms. To test the validity of the calculations, the population distribution of indium ions incident on a vapour of sodium was measured at an intermediate energy of 20 keV. The relative populations of the 5s 2 5p 2 P 1/2 and 5s 2 5p 2 P 3/2 states in indium were measured using collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy and found to be consistent with the calculations. Charge exchange contributions to high-resolution lineshapes were also investigated and found to be reproduced by the calc…
Preparation of Highly Porous Carbonous Electrodes by Selective Laser Sintering
2019
Selective laser sintering (SLS) 3D printing was utilized to fabricate highly porous carbonous electrodes. The electrodes were prepared by using a mixture of fine graphite powder and either polyamide-12, polystyrene, or polyurethane polymer powder as SLS printing material. During the printing process the graphite powder was dispersed uniformly on the supporting polymer matrix. Graphite’s concentration in the mixture was varied between 5 and 40 wt % to find the correlation between the carbon content and conductivity. The graphite concentration, polymer matrix, and printing conditions all had an impact on the final conductivity. Due to the SLS printing technique, all the 3D printed electrodes …

The Kinetics of Excitonic Luminescence in Mixed Silver Halides
1994
ABSTRACTTwo kinds of luminescence (excitonic luminescence and excitonic molecule luminescence) were investigated for solid solutions AgBr1-xClx after pulsed electron beam and N2 laser irradiation. Careful theoretical treatment of a set of experimental excitonic luminescence kinetics is presented. It is shown that the effective activation energy of Agoi migration is a linear function of the composition x. The narrow peak of the excitonic molecule luminescence shifts from 2.66ev in pure AgBr towards higher energies as x increases.
Nanofabrication on 2D and 3D Topography via Positive‐Tone Direct‐Write Laser Lithography
2019
Direct laser writing (DLW) lithography using two‐photon absorption is a powerful technique mostly used for fabrication of complex structures in micro‐ and nanoscale, by photopolymerizing a negative‐tone resist. In contrast, in this study it is demonstrated that DLW is also well suited for fabricating nano‐ to microscale metallic structures using lift‐off and a positive‐tone photoresist. It is shown first that versatile, fast and large area fabrication is possible on flat two‐dimensional insulating substrates, and an expression for how the line width varies with the scanning speed is derived, with excellent agreement with the experiments. Even more interestingly, a unique application for the…

Periodic unmixing of a binary metallic vapor
2005
We report on a type of surface structuring after short pulse laser ablation of a binary alloy. We observe the emergence of a concentric ring structure with changing elemental composition. The composition changes are interpreted by condensation of the ambient ablation vapor due to stress wave excitations in the ablation spot.
Perylene Derivatives As Useful SERRS Reporters, Including Multiplexing Analysis
2015
Five perylene bisimide (PBI) derivatives were designed and synthesized, on the basis of quantum-chemical calculations. The influence of halogen substituents on the shape and energy of the frontier orbitals and the Raman spectra were calculated, in the prospect use in surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) studies. The corresponding experiments confirmed a very strong SERRS response in the presence of pristine (i.e., uncoated) gold nanoparticles. These spectra can be used for multiplexing measurements, namely measurements in which, by using a single laser excitation, one can recognize the simultaneous presence of several analytes.
Nanotechnology in lithium niobate for integrated optic frequency conversion in the UV
2017
In the domain of Earth Explorer satellites nanoengineered nonlinear crystals can optimize UV tunable solid-state laser converters. Lightweight sources can be based on Lithium Niobate (LN) domain engineering by electric field poling and guided wave interactions. In this Communication we report the preliminary experimental results and the very first demonstration of UltraViolet second-harmonic generation by first-order quasi-phase-matching in a surface-periodically-poled proton-exchanged LN waveguide. The pump source was a Ti-Sapphire laser with a tunability range of 700- 980 nm and a 40 GHz linewidth. We have measured UV continuous-wave light at 390 nm by means of a lock-in amplifier and of …
Demonstration of remote optical measurement configuration that correlates to glucose concentration in blood
2010
An optical approach allowing the extraction and the separation of remote vibration sources has recently been proposed. The approach has also been applied for medical related applications as blood pressure and heart beats monitoring. In this paper we demonstrate its capability to monitor glucose concentration in blood stream. The technique is based on the tracking of temporal changes of reflected secondary speckle produced in human skin (wrist) when being illuminated by a laser beam. A temporal change in skin’s vibration profile generated due to blood pulsation is analyzed for estimating the glucose concentration. Experimental tests that were carried out in order to verify the proposed appro…
