Ultrasonically-Assisted and Conventional Extraction from Erodium Glaucophyllum Roots Using Ethanol:Water Mixtures: Phenolic Characterization, Antioxi…
2020
The paper presents experimental results concerning the ultrasonically-assisted extraction of bioactive compounds from Erodium glaucophyllum roots. A comparison with conventional methodology is presented, and thereby the phytochemical composition and the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of extracts are evaluated. The phenolic profile of Erodium extracts was analyzed by TOF&ndash
2020
[EN] In recent years, the use of three-dimensional (3D) models in cultural and archaeological heritage for documentation and dissemination purposes has increased. New geomatics technologies have significantly reduced the time spent on fieldwork surveys and data processing. The archaeological remains can be documented and reconstructed in a digital 3D environment thanks to the new 3D survey technologies. Furthermore, the products generated by modern surveying technologies can be reconstructed in a virtual environment on effective archaeological bases and hypotheses coming from a detailed 3D data analysis. However, the choice of technologies that should be used to get the best results for dif…
Integrated use of unmanned aerial vehicle photogrammetry and terrestrial laser scanning to support archaeological analysis: The Acropolis of Selinunt…
2021
Southwestern Sicily is an area of infrequent seismic activity; however, some studies carried out in the archaeological Selinunte site suggest that, between the fourth century BC and the early Middle Ages, probably at least two earthquakes strucked this area with enough energy to damage and cause the collapse and kinematics of much of the architecture of Selinunte. Take into account that, in 2008, a noninvasive archaeological prospection and traditional data gathering methods along the Acropolis north fortifications were carried out. Following these first studies, after about 10 years, a new geophysical campaign was carried out. This second campaign benefited from the application of modern t…
Increasing contextual information by merging existing archaeological data with state of the art laser scanning in the prehistoric funerary deposit of…
2013
Abstract In this paper we present a virtual reconstruction of prehistoric funerary practices in Pastora Cave, a collective burial site in Eastern Spain that dates from the Late Neolithic, Chalcolithic and Bronze Age. Modern data of the cave was captured by 3D laser scanning techniques and added to recorded archaeological data and 3D graphic information. The combination of these data sets allowed us to create a hypothetical reconstruction to analyze the material excavated in the 1940s and 50s in greater spatial context. A 3D model of the current cave was created in order to serve as a basis for modeling the relative stratigraphic information available. We present the methodology employed and…
Terrestrial laser scanning and close range photogrammetry for 3D archaeological documentation: the Upper Palaeolithic Cave of Parpalló as a case study
2010
Graphic and metric archaeological documentation is an activity that requires the capture of information from different sources, accurate processing and comprehensive analysis. If monitoring of the state of conservation is required, this task has to be performed before intervention, during and after the completion of the works in a repetitive way. This paper presents the use of terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) in order to effectively produce, prior to intervention, accurate and high-resolution 3D models of a cave with engravings dating back to the Upper Palaeolithic era. The processing of the TLS data is discussed in detail in order to create digital surface models. The complexity of the cav…
Temperature dependance of the generation and decay of E’ centers induced in silica by 4.7eV laser radiation
2009
We report a study of the generation of silicon dangling bonds (E' centers) induced in fused silica by 4.7 eV laser irradiation in the 10 200 K the induced defects undergo a post-irradiation decay due to their reaction with mobile H(2). The interplay between generation and annealing gives rise to a bell-shaped temperature dependence of the concentration of induced E' centers, peaking at 250 K
MBE growth and properties of low-density InAs/GaAs quantum dot structures.
2011
We present the results of a comprehensive study carried out on morphological, structural and optical properties of InAs/GaAs quantum dot structures grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy. InAs quantum dots were deposited at low growth rate and high growth temperature and were capped with InGaAs upper confining layers. Owing to these particular design and growth parameters, quantum dot densities are in the order of 4-5x109 cm-2 with emission wavelengths ranging from 1.20 to 1.33 µm at 10 K, features that make these structures interesting for single-photon operation at telecom wavelength. High resolution structural techniques show that In content and composition profiles in the structures depend on …
In vitro assessment of a novel additive manufactured titanium implant abutment
2021
Background Dental implant temporization remains a clinical challenge. A novel abutment simplifying the procedure was developed, but conventional fabrication was costly and unpredictable. A workflow was developed to fabricate the novel abutment using additive manufacturing. This in vitro investigation assessed the additive manufactured (AM) novel abutments to conventionally manufactured (CM) abutments. Material and methods The AM abutments were fabricated in dental-grade titanium (Ti-6Al-4V) using Selective Laser Melting and were post-processed. The CM abutments were milled and subsequently laser welded manually. Pin strength of the abutments was assessed using a universal loading machine. T…
