Properties of AlN grown by plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition

2011

Abstract The influence of growth parameters on the properties of AlN films fabricated by plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition using trimethylaluminum and ammonia precursors was investigated. The atomic concentrations, refractive index, mass density, crystallinity and surface roughness were studied from the films grown in the temperature range of 100–300 °C with plasma discharge times between 2.5 and 30 s. The AlN films were shown to be hydrogen rich having H concentrations in the range of 13–27 at.% with inverse dependence on the growth temperature. The carbon and oxygen concentrations in the films were less than 2.6% and 0.2%, respectively. The refractive index and mass density of the f…

From the solution processing of hydrophilic molecules to polymer-phthalocyanine hybrid materials for ammonia sensing in high humidity atmospheres.

2014

We have prepared different hybrid polymer-phthalocyanine materials by solution processing, starting from two sulfonated phthalocyanines, s-CoPc and CuTsPc, and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), polyethylene glycol (PEG), poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide) (PAA-AM), poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) and polyaniline (PANI) as polymers. We also studied the response to ammonia (NH3) of resistors prepared from these sensing materials. The solvent casted films, prepared from s-CoPc and PVP, PEG and PAA-AM, were highly insulating and very sensitive to the relative humidity (RH) variation. The incorporation of s-CoPc in PDDA by means of layer-by-layer (LBL) technique allowed to stabilize the fi…

Frequency-Downconversion Stability of PMMA Coatings in Hybrid White Light-Emitting Diodes

2015

We report on the properties of a poly(methyl methacrylate)-based coating used as a host for an organic dye in hybrid white light-emitting diodes. The device is composed by a pump source, which is a standard inorganic GaN/InGaN blue light-emitting diode (LED) emitting at around 450 nm, and a spin-coated conversion layer making use of Lumogen® F Yellow 083. Under prolonged irradiation, the coating exhibits significant bleaching, thus degrading the color rendering performance of the LED. We present experimental results that confirm that the local temperature rise of the operating diode does not affect the conversion layer. It is also proven that, during the test, the photostability of the orga…

Two-wave mixing at 854 nm in BaTiO3:Rh planar waveguide implanted with He+

2001

Abstract Guided waves at 854 nm are observed in a BaTiO 3 :Rh waveguide fabricated by the technique of ion-beam implantation. The photorefractive interaction between two guided modes is demonstrated and characterized. The experiments reveal that the gain direction is reversed in the guiding layer in comparison with that in the bulk. A maximum gain of 24 cm −1 is achieved.

Factors Controlling the Energy of Nitrogen Monolayer Coverage onHigh Surface Area Catalyst Oxide Carriers

2011

Factors affecting the strength of nitrogen physisorption at monolayer coverage on different catalytic oxide carriers (e.g., ZnO, MgO, Al2O3, ZrO2, TiO2, and SiO2) have been addressed. Isotherm elaboration by the two-parameter BET equation provides C-constant values (80–200) inversely related to the polarizing power (PP) of the oxide adsorbent irrespective of the surface area exposure. The energy of monolayer formation depends on the extent of charge-delocalization characterizing the surface cation-oxygen bond, which determines the acid–base character of the oxide and strength of van der Waals interactions with adsorbate molecules. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations on MgO and TiO2…

Reaction pathways for atomic layer deposition with lithium hexamethyl disilazide, trimethyl phosphate, and oxygen plasma

2020

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) of lithium-containing films is of interest for the development of next-generation energy storage devices. Lithium hexamethyl disilazide (LiHMDS) is an established precursor to grow these types of films. The LiHMDS molecule can either be used as a single-source precursor molecule for lithium or as a dual-source precursor molecule for lithium and silicon. Single-source behavior of LiHMDS is observed in the deposition process with trimethylphosphate (TMP) resulting in the deposition of crystalline lithium phosphate (Li3PO4). In contrast, LiHMDS exhibits dual-source behavior when combined with O2 plasma, resulting in a lithium silicate. Both processes were characte…

Maximum Noble-Metal Efficiency in Catalytic Materials: Atomically Dispersed Surface Platinum

2014

International audience; Platinum is the most versatile element in catalysis, but it is rare and its high price limits large-scale applications, for example in fuel-cell technology. Still, conventional catalysts use only a small fraction of the Pt content, that is, those atoms located at the catalyst's surface. To maximize the noble-metal efficiency, the precious metal should be atomically dispersed and exclusively located within the outermost surface layer of the material. Such atomically dispersed Pt surface species can indeed be prepared with exceptionally high stability. Using DFT calculations we identify a specific structural element, a ceria ``nanopocket'', which binds Pt2+ so strongly…

Phosphites as precursors in atomic layer deposition thin film synthesis

2021

We here demonstrate a new route for deposition of phosphorous based materials by atomic layer deposition (ALD) using the phosphites Me3PO3 or Et3PO3 as precursors. These contain phosphorous in the oxidation state (III) and are open for deposition of reduced phases by ALD. We have investigated their applicability for the synthesis of LiPO and AlPO materials and characterized their growth by means of in situ quartz crystal microbalance. Phosphites are good alternatives to the established phosphate-based synthesis routes as they have high vapor pressure and are compatible with water as a coreactant during deposition. The deposited materials have been characterized using XPS, x-ray fluorescence…
