Vibrational Sum Frequency Generation Spectroscopy of the Water Liquid–Vapor Interface from Density Functional Theory-Based Molecular Dynamics Simulat…

2013

International audience; The vibrational sum frequency generation (VSFG) spectrum of the water liquid-vapor (LV) interface is calculated using density functional theory-based molecular dynamics simulations. The real and imaginary parts of the spectrum are in good agreement with the experimental data, and we provide an assignment of the SFG bands according to the dipole orientation of the interfacial water molecules. We use an instantaneous definition of the surface, which is more adapted to the study of interfacial phenomena than the Gibbs dividing surface. By calculating the vibrational (infrared, Raman) properties for interfaces of varying thickness, we show that the bulk spectra signature…

Vapor phase epitaxy of Hg1−xCdxI2 on sapphire

1998

Abstract We demonstrate the possibility of growing Hg 1− x Cd x I 2 layers on sapphire substrates by vapor-phase epitaxy (VPE). The successful growth has been carried out using an α-HgI 2 polycrystalline source and a CdTe buffer layer grown on sapphire by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) before the Hg 1− x Cd x I 2 VPE growth. The Hg 1− x Cd x I 2 /sapphire 20–40 μm thick layers with a uniform composition in the range of x =0.2–0.6 were grown at 220–250°C for 70–300 h. The layers were studied by scanning electron microscopy, energy disperse X-ray analysis and X-ray diffractometry. Results on the layer characterization are reported and the effect of VPE conditions on the layer proper…

Synthesis, Structure, and Properties of BaVO2(AsO4):  a New Vanadium Arsenate Containing the V2O42+ Core

1997

The new vanadium arsenate BaAsVO6 has been synthesized hydrothermally and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/c with unit cell parameters a = 5.645(1) A, b = 10.243(1) A, c = 8.945(1) A, β = 90.60(1)°, and Z = 2. The layered structure is built up from V2O42+ units and AsO43- anions, the AsO43- ligands being coordinated to two (V2O4)2+ units in both, terminal and bridging μ2-AsO43- fashion. The [VO2(AsO4)]2- layers are separated by Ba2+ cations. The V2O42+ unit has no precedence in oxo-vanadium chemistry.

Ion-exchange high-performance liquid chromatography of nucleotides and polypeptides on new types of ion-exchange sorbents, based on polystyrene-coate…

1991

A novel type of ion exchanger was prepared by multipoint covalent binding of polystyrene chains onto the surface of porous silica followed by polymer-analogous modification of the bonded layer. Both anion and cation exchangers were synthesized and examined in the separation of nucleotides and proteins. Rapid and efficient separation of basic polypeptides on strong anion exchangers and that of acidic polypeptides on strong cation exchangers could be achieved. For the separation of complete mixtures of polypeptides the application of zwitter-ionic ion exchangers can be recommended.

Size and Surface Chemistry Tuning of Silicon Carbide Nanoparticles.

2017

International audience; Chemical transformations on the surface of commercially available 3C-SiC nanoparticles were studied by means of FTIR, XPS, and temperature-programmed desorption mass spectrometry methods. Thermal oxidation of SiC NPs resulted in the formation of a hydroxylated SiO2 surface layer with C3Si–H and CHx groups over the SiO2/SiC interface. Controllable oxidation followed by oxide dissolution in HF or KOH solution allowed the SiC NPs size tuning from 17 to 9 nm. Oxide-free SiC surfaces, terminated by hydroxyls and C3Si–H groups, can be efficiently functionalized by alkenes under thermal or photochemical initiation. Treatment of SiC NPs by HF/HNO3 mixture produces a carbon-e…

Unusual stoichiometry control in the atomic layer deposition of manganese borate films from manganese bis(tris(pyrazolyl)borate) and ozone

2016

The atomic layer deposition (ALD) of films with the approximate compositions Mn3(BO3)2 and CoB2O4 is described using MnTp2 or CoTp2 [Tp ¼ tris(pyrazolyl)borate] with ozone. The solid state decomposition temperatures of MnTp2 and CoTp2 are 370 and 340 C, respectively. Preparative-scale sublimations of MnTp2 and CoTp2 at 210 C/0.05 Torr afforded >99% recoveries with <0.1% nonvolatile residues. Self-limited ALD growth was demonstrated at 325 C for MnTp2 or CoTp2 with ozone as the coreactant. The growth rate for the manganese borate process was 0.19 A˚ /cycle within the ALD window of 300–350 C. The growth rate for the cobalt borate process was 0.39–0.42 A˚ /cycle at 325 C. X-ray diffraction of …

Neural networks as effective techniques in clinical management of patients: some case studies

2004

In this paper, we present four examples of effective implementation of neural systems in the daily clinical practice. There are two main goals in this work; the first one is to show that neural networks are especially well-suited tools for solving different kind of medical/pharmaceutical problems, given the complex input output relationships and the few a priori knowledge about data distribution and variable relations. The second goal is to develop specific software applications, which enclose complex mathematical models, to clinicians; thus, the use of such models as decision support systems is facilitated. Four important pharmaceutical problems are considered in this study: identificatio…

Cholesterol Dependence of Collagen and Echovirus 1 Trafficking along the Novel α2β1 Integrin Internalization Pathway

2013

We have previously shown that soluble collagen and a human pathogen, echovirus 1 (EV1) cluster α2β1 integrin on the plasma membrane and cause their internalization into cytoplasmic endosomes. Here we show that cholesterol plays a major role not only in the uptake of α2β1 integrin and its ligands but also in the formation of α2 integrin-specific multivesicular bodies (α2-MVBs) and virus infection. EV1 infection and α2β1 integrin internalization were totally halted by low amounts of the cholesterol-aggregating drugs filipin or nystatin. Inhibition of cholesterol synthesis and accumulation of lanosterol after ketoconazole treatment inhibited uptake of collagen, virus and clustered integrin, an…

Aluminium-steel plating by press welding

2021

A series of researches related to aluminium-steel plating by press welding are presented in the paper. In this sense, the influence of the roughness of the aluminium and steel test samples was taken into account, but also of the post-welding heat treatment on the characteristics of the joints made. S355 steel specimens and AlMgSi0.7 F27 aluminium specimens were analyzed. The samples were processed and roughness Ra = 2.51-51.09 µm were obtained. Also, after making the joints, a postwelding heat treatment was applied which consisted of a heating at a temperature of 425 °C with a duration of 6.5 hours and a slow cooling to room temperature. Six distinct samples were made in terms of surface ro…
