A quartz amplifier for high-sensitivity Fourier-transform ion-cyclotron-resonance measurements with trapped ions

Single-ion sensitivity is obtained in precision Penning-trap experiments devoted to light (anti)particles or ions with low mass-to-charge ratios, by adding an inductance coil to an amplifier connected to the trap, both operated at 4 K. However, single-ion sensitivity has not been reached on heavy singly or doubly charged ions. In this publication, we present a new system to reach this point, based on the use of a quartz crystal as an inductance, together with a newly developed broad-band (BB) amplifier. Study of the Secondary Electron Yield in Dielectrics Using Equivalent Circuital Models

[EN] Secondary electron emission has an important role on the triggering of the multipactor effect; therefore, its study and characterization are essential in radio-frequency waveguide applications. In this paper, we propose a theoretical model, based on equivalent circuit models, to properly understand charging and discharging processes that occur in dielectric samples under electron irradiation for secondary electron emission characterization. Experimental results obtained for Pt, Si, GaS, and Teflon samples are presented to verify the accuracy of the proposed model. Good agreement between theory and experiments has been found.
Investigation of ZrO[sub 2]–Gd[sub 2]O[sub 3] Based High-k Materials as Capacitor Dielectrics

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) of ZrO 2 ―Gd 2 O 3 nanolaminates and mixtures was investigated for the preparation of a high permittivity dielectric material. Variation in the relative number of ALD cycles for constituent oxides allowed one to obtain films with controlled composition. Pure ZrO 2 films possessed monoclinic and higher permittivity cubic or tetragonal phases, whereas the inclusion of Gd 2 O 3 resulted in the disappearance of the monoclinic phase. Changes in phase composition were accompanied with increased permittivity of mixtures and laminates with low Gd content. Identification of parameters and harmonic losses of a deep-bar induction motor

High frequency harmonics from a frequency converter causes additional losses in a deep-bar induction motor. The harmonics have their own amplitude and phase with respect to the fundamental signal, but the harmonic loss is only dependent on the amplitude of harmonics. A deep-bar induction motor can be modelled by a triple-cage circuit to take skin effect into account. The triple cage circuit having many parameters could be estimated from a small-signal model of the machine by using Differential Evolution. The correctly estimated parameters make the triple-cage circuit valid in a wide range of frequencies. However, the triple-cage circuit is very complicated which makes it difficult to model …

Towards Atomically Precise Supported Catalysts from Monolayer‐Protected Clusters: The Critical Role of the Support

Abstract Controlling the size and uniformity of metal clusters with atomic precision is essential for fine‐tuning their catalytic properties, however for clusters deposited on supports, such control is challenging. Here, by combining X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations, it is shown that supports play a crucial role in the evolution of monolayer‐protected clusters into catalysts. Based on the acidic nature of the support, cluster‐support interactions lead either to fragmentation of the cluster into isolated Au–ligand species or ligand‐free metallic Au0 clusters. Electrochemical Fluorocyclization of N-Allylcarboxamides to 2-Oxazolines by Hypervalent Iodine Mediator

A resource saving protocol for the synthesis of 5-fluoromethyl-2-oxazolines by using electrochemistry has been realized. Thereby, a hypervalent iodine species I(III) is generated by anodic oxidation in the presence of Et3N·5HF and mediates the cyclization of N-allylcarboxamide to 5-fluoromethyl-2-oxazoline. This method allows application to various substrates furnishing the 2-oxazolines with yields up to 68%. The protocol is easy to conduct under constant current conditions offering a sustainable alternative over conventional reagent-based pathways.
Fluorocyclization of N-Propargylamides to Oxazoles by Electrochemically Generated ArIF2

A sustainable synthesis of 5-fluoromethyl-2-oxazoles by use of electrochemistry has been demonstrated. Hypervalent ArIF2 is generated by direct electrochemical oxidation of iodoarene ArI in Et3N·5HF and mediates the fluorocyclization of N-propargylamides to 5-fluoromethyl-2-oxazoles. The stoichiometry in ArI turned out to be a key parameter in controlling the product selectivity. This electrochemical protocol provides access to fluorinated oxazoles starting from simply available N-propargylamides with yields up to 65% and offers a green alternative over conventional reagent-based approaches.
Reappraising Schmidpeter's bis(iminophosphoranyl)phosphides: coordination to transition metals and bonding analysis

The synthesis and characterization of a range of bis(iminophosphoranyl)phosphide (BIPP) group 4 and coinage metals complexes is reported. BIPP ligands bind group 4 metals in a pseudo fac-fashion, and the central phosphorus atom enables the formation of d0–d10 heterobimetallic complexes. Various DFT computational tools (including AIM, ELF and NCI) show that the phosphorus–metal interaction is either electrostatic (Ti) or dative (Au, Cu). A bridged homobimetallic Cu–Cu complex was also prepared and its spectroscopic properties were investigated.
