The BCL-2 proteins BAX and BAK can commit mammalian cells to apoptosis and are inhibited by retrotranslocation from the mitochondria into the cytosol. BACKGROUND Splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL) is a well defined pathologic entity. However, questions regarding the bone marrow infiltration rate, the minimal diagnostic data set, and therapy remain unanswered. METHODS Clinical-pathologic features and outcomes of 57 consecutive patients who had splenomegaly with no clinically significant lymphadenomegaly and who were diagnosed with SMZL with or without (±) villous lymphocytes (VL) were reviewed. The in vivo effect of yeast-derived recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (rh GM-CSF) was investigated in 30 patients with advanced malignancy in a phase Ib trial. Patients were treated at four different dose levels (120 to 1,000 micrograms/m2/d) by either daily intravenous (IV) bolus injection or 24-hour continuous infusion. Administration of rh GM-CSF resulted in a broad spectrum of dose- and schedule-dependent hematopoietic effects. Three hundred and twenty-seven patients from two population-based cohorts with an established diagnosis of polycythaemia vera were studied for prognostic risk factors for survival and leukaemia in a long-term survey. The relative survival (RS) was 72% and 46% at 10 and 20 years respectively, from the time of diagnosis. Multivariate analysis identified age >70 years, white blood cell count >13 × 10(9) /l and thrombo-embolism at diagnosis as independent risk factors. Patients with two or three of these factors had a 10 year RS of 26%, compared with 59% and 84% in patients with one and no risk factors, respectively. Purpose To assess outcomes of a low-profile thoracic stent-graft in the treatment of thoracic aortic pathologies. Methods A retrospective analysis of all consecutive patients with aortic thoracic pathologies treated with the RelayPro device in two university hospitals between October 2018 and July 2019. Results 23 patients (65% men; mean age 63.4 ± 15 years) were treated.
