LC-ESI/HRMS analysis of glucosinolates, oxylipins and phenols in Italian rocket salad (Diplotaxis erucoides subsp. erucoides (L.) DC.) and evaluation…
2021
BACKGROUND: This study investigated the chemical profile and biological activity of Diplotaxis erucoides subsp. erucoides (L.) DC. (Brassicaceae) collected in Sicily (Italy). RESULTS: Liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization and high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/HRMS) analysis of the ethanol extract revealed the presence of 42 compounds – glucosinolates, hydroxycinnamic acids, flavonoids, and oxylipins. The extract was tested for its antioxidant activity using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2′-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic) acid (ABTS), ferric reducing ability power (FRAP), and β-carotene bleaching tests. Promising protection from lipid peroxi…
High-performance liquid chromatographic study of the regulation of phospholipid metabolism in cultured adrenocortical cells
1994
Abstract A rapid high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method for the separation of phospholipids was developed for minute samples of total lipids (ca. 200 μg). The method was applied to the study of the phospholipid metabolism in adrenocortical cell cultures. A complete separation of the different cellular phospholipid classes was achieved in 40 min. Good resolution of the phospholipid peaks was obtained, which allowed the collection of each individual class of phospholipids for further analysis of radioactivity and fatty acid composition by gas chromatography. When cells were incubated with [U-14C]glycerol or [U-14C]palmitate the bulk of the radioactivity was found in cellular ph…
In syringe hybrid monoliths modified with gold nanoparticles for selective extraction of glutathione in biological fluids prior to its determination …
2020
Abstract In this work, a simple device for extraction glutathione (GSH) in biological fluids using a hybrid monolithic material within a polypropylene syringe is developed. For this purpose, glycidyl methacrylate-based monolith was firstly prepared within this housing material, and the polymer was modified with different ligands (ammonia, cysteamine and cystamine). The resulting materials (containing amine or thiol groups, respectively) were then functionalized with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The hybrid material that gave the largest AuNPs coverage was selected as solid-phase (SPE) sorbent and several variables affecting the extraction recovery of this compound were investigated. Under opt…
Extraction of β-blockers from urine with a polymeric monolith modified with 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride in spin column format
2020
Abstract A glycidyl methacrylate-based monolith was modified with imidazolium-based ionic liquid (IL) to be used as stationary phase for solid-phase extraction (SPE). The host monolithic support was prepared by in-situ UV polymerization in spin column format. Two approaches were developed to incorporate the IL into the polymeric monolithic matrix: generation of IL onto the surface monolith, and copolymerization by addition of the IL to the polymerization mixture, which gave the best results. The resulting sorbent materials were morphologically characterized and used for the isolation of five β-blockers from human urine samples. All SPE steps were accomplished by centrifugation, which reduce…
Extraction of glyphosate by a supported liquid membrane technique.
2000
The possible application of the supported liquid membrane (SLM) technique for the extraction of glyphosate is presented. For the extraction of this compound the SLM system has been applied with utilisation of Aliquat 336 as a cationic carrier incorporated into the membrane phase. The extraction efficiency of glyphosate [N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine] is dependent on the donor phase pH, carrier concentration in the organic phase and NaCl concentration in the acceptor phase. The optimal extraction conditions are: donor phase pH>11, acceptor phase of 2 M NaCl solution and the organic phase composed of 20% (w/w) Aliquot 336 solution in di-hexyl ether. Counter-coupled transport of chloride anions f…
Differences between the Glycosylation Patterns of Haptoglobin Isolated from Skin Scales and Plasma of Psoriatic Patients
2012
Improved diagnosis of psoriasis, by new biomarkers, is required for evaluating the progression rate of the disease and the response to treatment. Haptoglobin (Hpt), a glycoprotein secreted by hepatocytes and other types of cells including keratinocytes, was found with glycan changes in psoriasis and other diseases. We previously reported that Hpt isolated from plasma of psoriatic patients is more fucosylated than Hpt of healthy subjects. The aim of this study was to compare the glycosylation pattern of Hpt isolated from skin scales or plasma of patients with psoriasis with that of Hpt from cornified epidermal layer or plasma of healthy subjects. High performance liquid chromatography analys…
Immunochemical analysis of the carbohydrate moiety of yeast killer toxin K28
1990
Killer toxin K28, a 16 kd protein secreted by the wine yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain 28, was reversibly bound by a column of Concanavalin A-Sepharose, confirming its glycoprotein nature. HPLC analysis of acid hydrolyzates of K28 toxin as well as Western-blots of beta-eliminated and/or endo H-treated killer toxin preparations probed with polyclonal alpha-toxin antibodies revealed that the carbohydrate moiety of K28 consists of D-mannose only, which is O-glycosidically linked via Ser/Thr residues to the protein part. The change in gel mobility of K28 after beta-elimination was caused by a decrease in molecular mass of about 1,800, corresponding to a carbohydrate moiety of 10 mannose r…
Evidence for Direct Binding of the First Component of Complement, C1, to Outer Membrane Proteins from Salmonella minnesota
1985
The outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria consists of a tight lattice of lipopolysaccharides (LPS), phospholipids, and proteins. It has been shown in E. coli and S. typhimurium that LPS molecules are exclusively localized in the outer layer of the outer membrane (Muhlradt and Golecki 1975; Smit et al. 1975; Funatura and Nikaido 1980). Localization of proteins in the outer membrane is also indicated by the fact that various major outer membrane proteins in association with LPS, serve as receptors for phages (Datta et al. 1977; Mu-TOH et al. 1978; Henning and Jann 1979; Yu and Mizushima 1982) and colicins (Kadner et al. 1979; Konisky 1979).
DEEP EUTECTIC SOLVENTS E LIQUIDI IONICI: SOLVENTI PER LO SVILUPPO DI PROCESSI ECO-COMPATIBILI
2020
Boosting the methanolysis of polycarbonate by the synergy between ultrasound irradiation and task specific ionic liquids
2021
In an attempt to perform polycarbonate chemical recycling in a more sustainable way, we took into consideration the combined use of ultrasound irradiation and task specific ionic liquids. Towards this aim, the methanolysis of polycarbonate, into dimethylcarbonate and bisphenol A, was carried out in the presence of cholinium-based ionic liquids featuring anions derived from amino acids and other eco-friendly species. The target process was optimized in terms of both energy and material amounts as well as in terms of the nature of the catalysts used. The proposed protocol allowed high conversion and yields of bisphenol A to be obtained, under milder conditions compared to the ones so far repo…
