Playful approaches to news engagement

From crossword puzzles and quizzes to more complex gamification strategies and serious newsgames, legacy media has long explored ways to deploy playful approaches to deliver their content and engage with the audience. We examine how news and games fit together when news organizations, game creators and news audiences welcome gameful forms of communication and participation. Moreover, we reflect on the theoretical and empirical significance of merging news with games as a way to reformulate normative assumptions, production practices and consumption patterns. As a result, the boundaries between journalism and game’s logics start to erode, and they begin to find new ways of converging.

The Mediated Social Communication (MSC) approach considers mass media a venue for opposing and complementary societal groups to publicly negotiate socially relevant topics. This negotiation is conducted through representatives of these groups and mediated by journalists. Inspired by the MSC approach, this paper presents an empirically grounded model that structures the mediating process through the process of quoting. Darba mērķis ir atrast jaunus inhibitorus, kas kavē Listeria monocytogenes transpeptidāzes sortāzes A veikto hidrolīzes reakciju, inhibējot sortāzes A darbību. Šī mērķa sasniegšanai tika izveidota DNS konstrukcija, kas kodē Listeria monocytogenes sortāzes A katalītisko domēnu. Tā kā vislabāk izpētīta ir Staphylococcus aureus sortāze A, papildus tika izveidota tās katalītisko domēnu kodējoša DNS konstrukcija. Ekspresija tika sekmīgi veikta E. coli ekspresijas sistēmā, abi proteīni bija šķīstoši. Uzņēmēju degsmes un metakognitīvo prasmju saistība ar izdegšanu

Daudzu gadu garumā izdegšanas pētniecība ir noritējusi dažādās nozarēs. Organizāciju vidē pētnieki, galvenokārt, cenšas noskaidrot izdegšanas riska un aizsargājošos faktorus darbiniekiem. Maģistra darba mērķis bija atklāt saistības starp izdegšanu, harmonisku degsmi, pārņemošu degsmi un metakognitīvajām prasmēm uzņēmēju izlasē. Pētījuma izlasi veido 60 mazu uzņēmumu vadītāji, vīrieši n=35 (58,3%) un sievietes n=25 (41,7%) vecumā no 24 līdz 56 gadiem (M = 39,48 gadi), kuriem pieder vismaz 25% uzņēmuma kapitāldaļu un kuru ienākumi no uzņēmējdarbības sastāda vismaz 50% no kopējiem mājsaimniecības ienākumiem. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin erään keskisuomalaisen koulun oppilaiden näkemyksiä osallisuudesta. Tässä tutkimuksessa keskiössä olivat oppilaiden näkemykset heidän mielipiteensä huomioinnista päätöksenteossa ja mahdollisista eroista eri ryhmien kesken. Lisäksi selvitettiin oppilaiden näkemyksiä oppilaskunnan hallituksesta, asioista, joihin he haluaisivat vaikuttaa jatkossa ja mielipiteen ilmaisuun kannustamisesta koulussa. Tiedon saaminen käytännön tason osallisuudesta on ajankohtaista, sillä osallisuutta on pyritty edistämään kouluissa mm. uusissa perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelmien perusteissa. This paper addresses the aspect of the meaningfulness of a national assessment in English as a foreign language, applying the fairness framework proposed by Kunnan (2018). We compared students’ performance on two receptive language skills of listening and reading on two subsequent national evaluations in Finland, taken by students at the end of compulsory basic education and at the end of general upper secondary education, respectively. Objective: This study assesses the reliability and validity of the DSM-5-based, semi-structured Clinical Parent Interview for Externalizing Disorders in Children and Adolescents (ILF-EXTERNAL). Method: Participant data were drawn from the ongoing ESCAschool intervention study. Statistical modelling of selective non-participation in health examination surveys

Health examination surveys aim to collect reliable information on the health and risk factors of a population of interest. Missing data occur when some invitees do not participate the survey. If non-participation is associated with the variables to be studied, then the estimates based only on the participants cannot be generalised to the population of interest. In this case, the estimates have selection bias, which misleads the decision-makers.
