Network-Based Computational Techniques to Determine the Risk Drivers of Bank Failures During a Systemic Banking Crisis

2018

This paper employs a computational model of solvency and liquidity contagion assessing the vulnerability of banks to systemic risk. We find that the main risk drivers relate to the financial connections a bank has and the market concentration, apart from the size of the bank triggering the contagion, while balance sheets play only a minor role. We also find that market concentration might facilitate banks to withstand liquidity shocks better while exposing them to larger solvency chocks. Our results are validated through an out-of-sample forecasting that shows that both type I and type II prediction errors are reduced if we include network characteristics in our prediction model.

The Influence of Relationship Lending on SMEs Loan Repayment Performance

2020

The study examined the influence of relationship lending on repayment performance of small- and medium-enterprise (SME) credit facilities. Brokers in the Credit Market: An Examination of the Vertical Scope

2014

This paper analyzes the vertical disintegration of the bank loan origination value chain. The main aim is to identify the relevant drivers which cause the emergence of brokers in the credit market which lead to vertical disintegration of the credit origination value chain. Transaction cost economics is the typical perspective of analysis of the vertical scope of banking value chains. This paper argues that in order to capture the drivers underlying the dynamic evolution of the vertical scope of bank loan origination business models, the above perspectives must be combined and further integrated with a capabilities and resource based view and with a modularity perspective.

2017

The publication in 1696 of the Catalan-Latin dictionary Gazophylacium Catalano-Latinum by Joan Lacavalleria led to the incorporation into Catalan of a large number of technical terms, in spite of the early modern sociocultural context being unfavourable to scientific and technical developments. The Gazophylacium is the Catalan version of a French-Latin dictionary, Le Dictionaire royal augmente by Francois-Antoine Pomey. Therefore, Lacavalleria may be considered as an initiator of the systematic transfer procedure of terminological units of French origin into Catalan, which were also adopted by many other languages of culture until well into the twentieth century, and that favoured the circu…

2013

A Voyage to the Islands Madera, Barbadoes, Nieves, St Christopher’s and Jamaica ; with the Natural History of the Herbs and Trees, Four-Footed Beasts, Fishes, Birds, Insects, Reptiles, &c …

THE ANALYSIS OF THE ROMANIAN BANKING SYSTEM EVOLUTION IN THE IMPORTANT MILESTONES FROM ITS HISTORY

2014

One of the national systems most often marked by various internal and international macroeconomic evolutions over time was the banking system. In this paper I intend to analyze the main developments of the banking system in the outstanding moments in its history, starting with a brief characterization of the banking system before 1990, moving then towards an analysis of the developments recorded in the watershed years (1992, 1998, 2007) and getting to the current situation using several representative indicators. This analysis allows me to place in historical and current coordinates, the subject of a more extensive research aimed at highlighting the impact that Basel III will have on Romani…
