DSM-IV Combined Type ADHD Shows Familial Association With Sibling Trait Scores
2008
Contains fulltext : 69060.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a discrete clinical syndrome characterized by the triad of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity in the context of marked impairments. Molecular genetic studies have been successful in identifying genetic variants associated with ADHD, particularly with DSM-IV inattentive and combined subtypes. Quantitative trait locus (QTL) approaches to linkage and association mapping have yet to be widely used in ADHD research, although twin studies investigating individual differences suggest that genetic liability for ADHD is continuously distributed throughout the population, u…
Oscillatory measurements for salad dressings stabilized with modified starch, xanthan gum, and locust bean gum
2006
The rheological properties of low-oil-content food emulsions were analyzed with oscillatory tests within the linear viscoelastic region. The formulations of these salad dressings usually include modified starch because of its low cost and the special creamy texture that it affords. The combination of starch with other natural gums may improve the quality of the product. A reference emulsion containing 4% modified starch and four other formulations in which the starch was partially replaced by xanthan gum (0.4%), locust bean gum (0.4%), and synergistic blends of these gums (0.03 + 0.03% or 0.1 + 0.1%) were formulated. Gels before emulsification were studied for comparative purposes. All syst…
One- and multi-locus multi-allele selection models in a random environment
1979
We deduce conditions for stochastic local stability of general perturbed linear stochastic difference equations widely applicable in population genetics. The findings are adapted to evaluate the stability properties of equilibria in classical one- and multi-locus multi-allele selection models influenced by random temporal variation in selection intensities. As an example of some conclusions and biological interpretations we analyse a special one-locus multi-allele model in more detail.
Safety self-efficacy and internal locus of control as mediators of safety motivation – Randomized controlled trial (RCT) study
2019
Abstract Behavioral factors play a fundamental role in preventing occupational injuries and accidents. Previous studies have shown that engagement in safety behavior is influenced by workers’ safety motivation. However, understanding of the cognitive factors that contribute to safety motivation is lacking. In this study, we examine internal safety locus of control and safety self-efficacy as mediators of the effects of a safety intervention on safety motivation. In 2016, 464 students from eight vocational schools participated in a school-based cluster randomized, controlled intervention study conducted in Finland. In the multiple mediation model investigated using structural equation modeli…
Relationships of the Woody Medicago Species (Section Dendrotelis) Assessed by Molecular Cytogenetic Analyses
2008
†Background and Aims The organization of rDNA genes in the woody medic species from the agronomically important Medicago section Dendrotelis was analysed to gain insight into their taxonomic relationships, to assess the levels of infraspecific variation concerning ribosomal loci in a restricted and fragmented insular species (M. citrina) and to assess the nature of its polyploidy. †Methods Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was used for physical mapping of 5S and 45S ribosomal DNA genes in the three species of section Dendrotelis (M. arborea, M. citrina, M. strasseri) and the related M. marina from section Medicago. Genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) was used to assess the genomic …
Coping Mechanism in a Socio – Educational Light: A Case Study in Nowadays’ Romanian Medical Organizations
2014
Abstract Professional stress became part of our everyday life. Statistics in the field of education and medicine, in almost all European countries, emphasize work stress to be the most prevalent. Despite this evidence, minimal data are available about the incidence of burnout cases among Romanian medical staff. Therefore, our study came to fill a research gap, as it aimed to depict and analyze burnout symptomatology among 103 health professionals (N=103), doctors and nurses, working in Romanian public hospitals, using a set of socio-demographic and psychological dimensions. More precisely, we intended to reveal and explain the interrelation between burnout, measured with MBI-HSS - (Maslach …
Population structure in the Méditerranean basin: a Y chromosome perspective
2006
The Mediterranean region has been characterised by a number of pre-historical and historical demographic events whose legacy on the current genetic landscape is still a matter of debate. In order to investigate the degree of population structure across the Mediterranean, we have investigated Y chromosome variation in a large dataset of Mediterranean populations, 11 of which are first described here. Our analyses identify four main clusters in the Mediterranean that can be labelled as North Africa, Arab, Central-East and West Mediterranean. In particular, Near Eastern samples tend to separate according to the presence of Arab Y chromosome lineages, suggesting that the Arab expansion played a…
Convergent adaptation of Saccharomyces uvarum to sulfite, an antimicrobial preservative widely used in human-driven fermentations
2021
Different species can find convergent solutions to adapt their genome to the same evolutionary constraints, although functional convergence promoted by chromosomal rearrangements in different species has not previously been found. In this work, we discovered that two domesticated yeast species, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Saccharomyces uvarum, acquired chromosomal rearrangements to convergently adapt to the presence of sulfite in fermentation environments. We found two new heterologous chromosomal translocations in fermentative strains of S. uvarum at the SSU1 locus, involved in sulfite resistance, an antimicrobial additive widely used in food production. These are convergent events that …
Departing from some texts by Jesús Moncada, Quim Mon…
“Locus amoenus” Ovidija “Metamorfozēs”
2018
Bakalaura darba Locus amoenus Ovidija poēmā Metamorfozes mērķis ir noteikt poēmā Metamorfozes iekļauto locus amoenus konceptam atbilstošo tekstvietu funkcionālitāti darba mīta izklāsta kontekstā. Darbā tiek apskatīta locus amoenus elementu simboliskā iekļaušana Ovidija mīta varianta izklāstā un to sastādošo leksēmu kvalitatīva analīze. Darba teorētiskajā daļā tiek skaidrots topogrāfijas jēdziens rētorikas un literatūrzinātnes kontekstā, kā arī apskatītas dažādas topos jeb loci variācijas abās disciplīnās. Tādējādi tiek veidota izpratne par locus amoenus koncepcijas rašanos, un tiek veikts ieskats Ovidija priekšgājēju gleznaino dabas ainavu aprakstīšanas tehnikā, to funkcijās darba ietvaros.…
