Monte Carlo simulation approach for a quantitative characterization of the band edge in InGaN quantum wells
2005
Monte Carlo simulation approach based on exciton hopping through randomly distributed localized states is proposed for quantitative characterization of the band edge of InxGa1–xN/GaN multiple quantum wells with different indium content (x ≈ 0.22–0.27). The band edge dynamics is investigated in the 10–300 K range by analyzing the measured S- and W-shaped temperature behavior of the photoluminescence peak position and linewidth, respectively. The simulation of the W-shaped temperature dependence using double-scaled potential profile model enabled us to estimate the scale of the potential fluctuations due to variation of indium content inside and among In-rich regions formed in InGaN alloy. In…
Photoluminescence from strained InAs monolayers in GaAs under pressure
1994
bulk GaAs. At pressures above the band crossover two emission bands are observed. These bands, characterized by having negative pressure coefBcients, are attributed to the type-I transition between conduction-band X „and heavy-hole states of the InAs monolayer and the type-II transition &om X states in GaAs to InAs heavy-hole states. The results are interpreted in terms of tight-binding band-structure calculations for the strained InAs-monolayer — bulk-GaAs system. I. INTRODUCTION Highly strained InAs jGaAs heterostructures have recently attracted interest due to their unusual electronic and optical properties. ~ 4 Epitaxial isomorphic growth of InAs on GaAs can be achieved only up to a sma…
Anisotropic polarization of non‐polar GaN quantum dot emission
2009
We report on experimental and theoretical studies of the polarization selection rules of the emission of non-polar GaN/AlN self-assembled quantum dots. Time-integrated and time-resolved photoluminescence measurements have been performed to determine the degree of polarization. It is found that the emission of some samples can be predominantly polarized parallel to the wurtzite c axis, in striking difference with the previously reported results for bulk GaN and its heterostructures, in which the emission was preferentially polarized perpendicular to the c axis. Theoretical calculations based on an 8-band k·p model are used to analyze the relative importance of strain, confinement and quantum…
Theoretical Prediction and Experimental Confirmation of Charge Transfer Vibronic Excitons and Their Phase in ABO3 Perovskite Crystals
2002
AbstractThe current theoretical and experimental knowledge of new polaronic-type excitons in ferroelectric oxides - charge transfer vibronic excitons (CTVE) is discussed. It is shown that quantum chemical Hartree-Fock-type calculations using a semiempirical Intermediate Neglect of Differential Overlap (INDO) method (modified for ionic/partly ionic solids) as well as photoluminescence studies in ferroelectric oxygen-octahedral perovskites confirm the CTVE existence. Our INDO calculations for KTaO3 and KNbO3 have demonstrated that the triplet exciton is a triad centre containing one active O atom and two Ta atoms sitting on the opposite sites from this O atom. The total energy of a system is …
Temperature influence on NaLaF 4 :Er 3+ green luminescence
2016
Abstract Er 3+ doped NaLaF 4 is a promising material for up-conversion luminescence applications due to low phonon energy and multisite nature of the crystalline lattice. In this work, luminescence processes in NaLaF 4 :Er 3+ materials have been studied at different temperatures. Spectra and decay kinetics of the green luminescence were measured under excitation to 4 F 7/2 state. Analysis of the green luminescence excitation spectra, the luminescence spectra and the luminescence decay kinetics at different temperatures reveals that the observed single green luminescence spectra at room temperature are related to overlapping of the green luminescence excitation bands from erbium ions located…
Blue luminescence in ZnO single crystals, nanopowders, ceramic
2007
The luminescence spectra and luminescence decay processes were studied in a ZnO single crystal, nanopowders and ceramic at liquid helium and room temperature under VUV synchrotron radiation as well as under pulsed laser excitation. The exciton-exciton and exciton-multiphonon processes were compared in different ZnO nanopowders (commercial powder, powders obtained by vaporization-condensation technique) and ceramic. The possibility of luminescence decay time modification by Al3+ doping was shown.
Luminescence center excited state absorption in tungstates
2001
The excited state absorption of intrinsic luminescence center (self-trapped exciton) in tungstates (CaWO4, ZnWO4, PbWO4 and CdWO4) was studied. The transient absorption and luminescence spectra, decay kinetics and lifetime dependencies on temperature have been measured. The model of self-trapped exciton and nature of observed absorption bands were discussed.
Room temperature polariton luminescence from a GaN∕AlGaN quantum well microcavity
2006
The authors report on the demonstration of strong light-matter coupling at room temperature using a crack-free UV microcavity containing GaN/AlGaN quantum wells (QWs). Lattice-matched AlInN/AlGaN distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs) with a maximum peak reflectivity of 99.5% and SiO2/Si3N4 DBRs were used to form high finesse hybrid microcavities. State-of-the-art GaN/Al0.2Ga0.8N QWs emitting at 3.62 eV with a linewidth of 45 meV at 300 K were inserted in these structures. For a 3 lambda/2 microcavity containing six QWs, the interaction between cavity photons and QW excitons is sufficiently large to reach the strong coupling regime. A polariton luminescence is observed with a vacuum field Rabi…
Theory of warm ionized gases: Equation of state and kinetic Schottky anomaly
2013
Based on accurate Lennard-Jones type interaction potentials, we derive a closed set of state equations for the description of warm atomic gases in the presence of ionization processes. The specific heat is predicted to exhibit peaks in correspondence to single and multiple ionizations. Such kinetic analogue in atomic gases of the Schottky anomaly in solids is enhanced at intermediate and low atomic densities. The case of adiabatic compression of noble gases is analyzed in detail and the implications on sonoluminescence are discussed. In particular, the predicted plasma electron density in a sonoluminescent bubble turns out to be in good agreement with the value measured in recent experiment…
