A radiomics evaluation of 2D and 3D MRI texture features to classify brain metastases from lung cancer and melanoma

2017

[EN] Brain metastases are occasionally detected before diagnosing their primary site of origin. In these cases, simple visual examination of medical images of the metastases is not enough to identify the primary cancer, so an extensive evaluation is needed. To avoid this procedure, a radiomics approach on magnetic resonance (MR) images of the metastatic lesions is proposed to classify two of the most frequent origins (lung cancer and melanoma). In this study, 50 T1-weighted MR images of brain metastases from 30 patients were analyzed: 27 of lung cancer and 23 of melanoma origin. A total of 43 statistical texture features were extracted from the segmented lesions in 2D and 3D. Five predictiv…

Sirtuin-6-dependent genetic and epigenetic alterations are associated with poor clinical outcome in hepatocellular carcinoma patients

2013

Sirtuin 6 (SIRT6) is a member of the sirtuin family of NAD+–dependent deacetylases. Genetic deletion of Sirt6 in mice results in a severe degenerative phenotype with impaired liver function and premature death. The role of SIRT6 in development and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma is currently unknown. We first investigated SIRT6 expression in 153 primary human liver cancers and in normal and cirrhotic livers using microarray analysis. SIRT6 was significantly down-regulated in both cirrhotic livers and cancer. A Sirt6 knockout (KO) gene expression signature was generated from primary hepatoctyes isolated from 3-week-old Sirt6-deficient animals. Sirt6-deficient hepatocytes showed up-re…

Psycho-oncological care in certified cancer centres-a nationwide analysis in Germany

2012

Background Over the last few years, a nationwide voluntary certification system for cancer centres has been established in Germany. To qualify for certification, cancer centres must provide psycho-oncological care to every patient who needs it. The aim of this study was to find out how many patients have been treated by a psycho-oncologist in the certified centres. Methods All cancer centres in Germany that were re-certified in 2010 provided data documenting how many patients with primary cancer received at least 30 min of psycho-oncological consultation in 2009. Results Data from n = 456 certified cancer centres were available. In the centres, a total of 36 165 patients were seen by a psyc…

From suspicion of angioedema to the diagnosis of lung cancer

2020

Angioedema is a localized and self-limiting oedema of the subcutaneous and submucosal tissue. Case presentation: 73-year-old man was admitted to the Division of Allergology with the diagnosis of angioedema. Detailed physical examination led to the suspicion of superior vena cava syndrome with secondary face swelling. Biopsy revealed metastasis of small cell carcinoma in superclavicular lymph nodes. Conclusions: Facial swelling, especially recurrent and non-inflammatory, is often, but not always caused by angioedema. Insightful differential diagnosis is crucial before making the final one.

Analysis of gut microbiota in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with immune-checkpoints blockers

2019

Abstract Background The microbiota community is considered as an organ of the human body. Recent studies have found that dysbiosis may have an impact on the interaction between immune regulation and tumor treatment. The main objective of this study is to characterize the gut microbiota in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in advanced stages, and its relationship with obesity, smoking habits, clinical pathological features and response to treatment with immune-checkpoints blockers (ICB). Methods 16S rRNA gene sequencing was performed on 48 stool samples from advanced NSCLC patients prior to treatment with ICB (PD-1 inhibitor and PD-L1 inhibitor). The database used for the taxo…

Biomarker testing of lung cancer in Spain

2019

Abstract Background Target therapy guide by biomarkers have become the standard of care for patients with lung cancer (LC). So, identify those molecular alterations is one of the most important care needs nowdays. Our objective was to know the implementation degree of these tests in a large cohort of patients in Spain using the Thoracic Tumor Registry (TTR) of the Grupo Espanol de Cancer de Pulmon (Spanish Lung Cancer Group). Methods The TTR is an observational cohort multicenter study of LC in Spain. The study is conducted according to the Declaration of Helsinki and approved by the institutional review board of each participating institute. The registry was approved by the Spanish Drug Ag…

Hospital Readmission after Major Pulmonary Resection for Lung Cancer in France: A Nationwide Medico-Administrative Database

2019

Objectives: After major pulmonary resection for lung cancer, hospital readmission is considered an indicator of the quality of care. Our main objective was to define the readmission rate at 30 days after pulmonary resection. Secondary objectives were to determine the causes and predictive factors. Methods: Data for all patients operated for lung cancer were extracted from the national medico-administrative database of the Programme de Medicalisation des Systemes d'Information (PMSI). Thirty-days hospital readmission was defined as any new hospitalization within 30 days after discharge from the surgical department following major lung resection, regardless of the reason for readmission. Tobacco use in lung cancer (LC) patients (p) in Spain

2019

Abstract Background Tobacco use, mainly as cigarette smoking, is the leading cause of lung cancer. Eighty-five percent of LC occur in smokers. Understanding the Spanish smoking habits allows the government to design health care policies against this consumption. To do so, the Grupo Espanol de Cancer de Pulmon (Spanish Lung Cancer Group) made this analysis within the context of the Thoracic Tumor Registry (TTR). Methods The TTR is an observational cohort multicenter study in Spain. The study is conducted according to the Declaration of Helsinki and approved by the institutional review board of each participating site. The registry was approved by the Spanish Drug Agency, as a non-post-author…
