AbstractThe glycine–alanine repeat (GAr) of the Epstein–Barr virus nuclear antigen-1 is a cis-acting transferable element that inhibits ubiquitin/proteasome-dependent proteolysis in vitro and in vivo. We have here examined the effect of a synthetic 20-mer GAr oligopeptide on the degradation of iodinated or biotin labeled lysozyme in a rabbit reticulocyte lysates in vitro assay. Micromolar concentrations of the GA-20 peptide inhibited the hydrolysis of lysozyme without significant effect on ubiquitination. Core-shell nanoparticles comprised of Fe3O4 cores and a mesoporous silica shell with an average expanded pore size of 6.07 nm and coated with a poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) layer (CS MSNs EP PNIPAM) were prepared and characterized. We report on a kinetic study of the heat-induced aggregation process of lysozyme at physiological pH. The time evolution of the aggregation extent and the conformational changes of the protein were followed by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and FTIR spectroscopy, respectively, whereas the morphology of the aggregates was observed by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The conformational changes of the secondary and tertiary structures were simultaneous and distinct in time with respect to the formation of aggregates. — The photochemical yields for inactivation and amino acid destruction in hen and duck egg-white lysozyme are presented. Duck lysozyme II is devoid of histidine but it has two more tyrosine residues than does hen lysozyme. The data indicate that sensitized oxidation of the single histidine residue of hen lysozyme is of no significance for the inactivation of this lysozyme. The ultraviolet destruction of tryptophan and cystine residues appears to be equally related with the loss in enzymatic activity of hen lysozyme. In the case of duck lysozyme, however, the ultraviolet inactivation appears to be predominantly governed by the destruction of cystine residues.

Grapes of the “Grillo” variety, used to produce Marsala wine, were harvested from five vineyards with different climatic and agronomic parameters, in order to obtain a first mapping of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) inhabiting the production area. Marsala base wine production was followed at a large-scale, and also two experimental vinifications, with different lysozyme and SO2 concentrations and in combination, were carried out at pilot-plant scale. LAB communities and conventional chemical parameters were periodically analysed. Crystalloid Lysozyme Inclusions in Paneth Cells of Vitamin A-Deficient Rats

The effect of vitamin A-deficiency on jejunal Paneth cells in rats was investigated. Crystalloid particles were observed in secretion granules of Paneth cells from 6 out of 8 rats with vitamin A-deficiency. The particles were similar to those found in Paneth cells under other experimental conditions. Using an immuno-electron-microscopic technique we demonstrated a clear lysozyme immunoreactivity of these particles. In 2 vitamin A-deficient rats tubular structures have been detected in addition to the crystalloid particles. Crystalloid particles or tubular structures were not detectable in a control group of 8 vitamin A-supplemented rats. The morphological alterations of Paneth cells may be …
