The possible influence of the feeding regime (FR) on the immune system and pathological status of gilthead sea bream was studied. Two growth trials were performed starting at different seasons (trial 1 = March; trial 2 = June) under controlled experimental conditions. In both trials, FR-1 groups received a restricted amount of food, whereas FR-2 groups were fed to visual satiety. The pathology study included parasitological and bacteriological examination, and the immunological traits analysed were respiratory burst activity of head kidney leucocytes, serum lysozyme and alternative pathway complement activity (ACH50). Isolation of human milk whey proteins by solid phase extraction with a polymeric material modified with gold nanoparticles

Abstract This work describes a method for the isolation of human milk whey proteins by solid-phase extraction (SPE) with a polymeric material modified with gold nanoparticles. Human serum albumin, α-lactalbumin, lactoferrin and lysozyme were selected as target proteins to establish the performance of SPE support. Several experimental variables (pH and ionic strength) that affect the SPE protocol were investigated to achieve the maximum extraction efficiency. Under optimal conditions, the SPE sorbent gave excellent recoveries, and offered a high permeability and reusability (> 20 times). Abstract The thermodynamic constants, associated with the interaction of three proteins with triazine dye affinity sorbents, have been derived from bath and frontal analysis experiments. In cases where mass-transfer restrictions are very high, calculation of the thermodynamic constants directly from frontal analysis experiments could not be achieved. Poly(amidoamine)s with bioreducible disulfide linkages in the main chain (SS-PAAs) and pH-responsive, negatively charged citraconate groups in the sidechain have been designed for effective intracellular delivery and release of proteins with a net positive charge at neutral pH. Using lysozyme as a cationic model protein these water soluble polymers efficiently self-assemble into nanocomplexes by charge attraction. Improvement of charge-transfer indices for multifunctional amino acids: Application to lysozyme

Valence topological Charge-Transfer (CT) indices are applied to the calculation of pH at the isoelectric point (pI). The model is generalized for molecules with heteroatoms. The ability of the indices for the description of molecular charge distribution is established by comparing them with the pI of 21 amino acids. Linear correlation models are obtained. The CT indices improve multivariable regression equations for pI. The variance decreases by 95%. No superimposition of the corresponding G(k)-J(k) and G(k)(V)-J(k)(V) pairs is observed in most fits, which diminishes the risk of collinearity. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the expression of the Mytilus galloprovincialis lysozyme gene in different in vivo stress situations, including injection of bacteria Vibrio splendidus LGP32, Vibrio anguillarum or Micrococcus lysodeikticus, as well as heat shock at 30 C and cold stress at 5 C. Crystalloid lysozyme inclusions in Paneth cells of vitamin A-deficient rats.

The effect of vitamin A-deficiency on jejunal Paneth cells in rats was investigated. Crystalloid particles were observed in secretion granules of Paneth cells from 6 out of 8 rats with vitamin A-deficiency. The particles were similar to those found in Paneth cells under other experimental conditions. Using an immuno-electron-microscopic technique we demonstrated a clear lysozyme immunoreactivity of these particles. In 2 vitamin A-deficient rats tubular structures have been detected in addition to the crystalloid particles.
