Nutritional characterization of Butternut squash (Cucurbita moschata D.): Effect of variety (Ariel vs. Pluto) and farming type (conventional vs. orga…

2019

Farming systems and cultivar types are two of the main factors able to affect the nutritional quality of plant foods for human nutrition. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the impact of two unexplored variety (namely Ariel and Pluto) and farming type (conventional and organic) on physicochemical parameters, chemical and mineral composition, water- and fat-soluble vitamins, amino acid profile and antioxidant bioactive components of butternut squashes (Cucurbita moschata). In order to achieve this purpose, a multivariate statistical discrimination of the different parameters was carried out using the unsupervised principle component analysis (PCA). The most important differences…

Coordination abilities of N-methyl alkylaminomethane-1,1-diphosphonic acids towards zinc(II), magnesium(II) and calcium(II) metal ions. Equilibrium s…

2017

Abstract Complex-formation abilities of a series of N-methyl alkylaminomethane-1,1-diphosphonic acids (1–7) with a common tertiary nitrogen atom (CH3−N−R) bearing linear or branched alkyl, cycloheptyl or phenylalkyl R substituents towards zinc(II), magnesium(II) and calcium(II) in aqueous solution have been studied by means of pH-potentiometry, ESI-MS spectrometry, 1H NMR and 31P NMR methods. The obtained results indicate that in the all presented systems mononuclear protonated equimolar and bis complexes are formed. In acidic and neutral solution, the formation of the protonated dinuclear species has been confirmed. The comparative analysis of the potentiometric and NMR data reveal that th…

Conversion of the Ca2+-ATPase from Rhodospirillum rubrum into a Mg2+-dependent enzyme by 1,N6-etheno ATP

1980

Nucleoside triphosphate hydrolysis of R.rubrum ATPase complexes can be changed from Ca2+-dependence to Mg2+-dependence by replacing ATP with 1,N6-etheno ATP. Four ATPase complexes which have been prepared by different procedures hydrolyze ATP and 1,N6-etheno ATP at different rates in dependence on the added metal ions. These differences allow an easy distinction of the various enzyme forms.

Crystallographic, spectroscopic and electrochemical characterization of pyridine adducts of magnesium(II) and zinc(II) porphine complexes

2013

Abstract A new purification method of magnesium(II) and zinc(II) porphine complexes (MgP and ZnP, respectively) by crystallization of their respective pyridine adducts is described. Pure MgP and ZnP can be regenerated by removal of the coordinated pyridine ligands by heating at 200 °C under vacuum. X-ray crystallographic structures of the pyridine adducts are presented for the first time. NMR analyses of the adducts reveal the coordination of two pyridine molecules. Electrochemical as well as UV-vis absorption spectroscopy analyses in DMF of MgP·(Py)2, ZnP·(Py)2, MgP and ZnP indicate that pyridine adducts are totally dissociated. Besides, oxidation peaks of these complexes are totally irrev…

Cardiac Computed Tomography Angiography Follow-Up of Resorbable Magnesium Scaffolds.

2021

Abstract Introduction An ancillary advantage of bioresorbable scaffolds is the possibility of non-invasive imaging assessment of the treated coronary segment. Cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) studies of resorbable magnesium scaffolds (RMS) are scarce. Methods In this collaborative, international study, nine patients who had an RMS implanted underwent CCTA as part of follow-up assessment. Core-lab blinded quantitative and qualitative assessment was performed by an independent CCTA investigator. Results Eight studies were amenable for quantitative analysis, and the blinded CT investigator successfully located and evaluated patency of RMS in all cases. The CCTA follow-up in-scaff…

An in vitro model for the study of human parathyroid gland tissue: Single cell suspensions and monolayer cultures

1982

An in vitro model for studies of parathyroid physiology is described using single cell suspensions and adherent monolayer cultures of human parathyroid tissue. The isolated cells were viable and maintained functional properties tested by calcium and magnesium sensitivity. Parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion could be suppressed by rising calcium and magnesium concentrations. The secretory behaviour of the cells was not altered by cultivation or cryopreservation. The morphological integrity of the individual cells after mechanical and enzymatic preparation was confirmed by light and electron microscopy.

Membrane-Bound F1 ATPase from Micrococcus Sp. ATCC 398E. Purification and Characterization by Affinity Chromatography

1976

A chemically reactive ATP analogue, 6-[(3-carboxy-4-nitrophenyl)thio]-9-β-D-ribofuranosylpurine 5′-triphosphate (Nbs6ITP) has been synthesized. It has the ability to form stable thioether bonds between the 6-position of the purine ring and aliphatic mercapto groups. The nucleotide moiety of the reagent has been covalently bound to agarose, via iminobispropylamine and N-acetyl-homocysteine as spacer with the purpose of producing an affinity chromatography material. The affinity matrix binds solubilized F1 ATPase from a crude extract of Micrococcus sp. membranes. Afterwards the enzyme can be selectively eluted from the column at a defined ATP concentration. This method is superior to the conv…

Erratum: Effect of magnesium supplementation on glucose metabolism in people with or at risk of diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis of do…

2016

Although higher dietary intakes of magnesium (Mg) seem to correspond to lower diabetes incidence, research concerning Mg supplementation in people with or at risk of diabetes is limited. Thus, we aimed to investigate the effect of oral Mg supplementation on glucose and insulin-sensitivity parameters in participants with diabetes or at high risk of diabetes compared with placebo. A literature search in PubMed, EMBASE, SCOPUS, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Clinicaltrials.gov without language restriction, was undertaken. Eligible studies were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effect of oral Mg supplementation vs placebo in patients with diabetes or at h…
