Acetobacter musti sp. nov., isolated from Bobal grape must

An acetic acid bacterium (strain Bo7T), obtained during a study of the microbial diversity of spontaneous fermentations of Bobal grape must, was subjected to a taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences allocated strain Bo7T to the genus Acetobacter, and revealed Acetobacter aceti and Acetobacter oeni to be nearest neighbours (99.57 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between strain Bo7T and A. oeni CECT 5830T, and 98.76 % between strain Bo7T and A. aceti CECT 298T). Isolation and characterisation of new Gram-negative and Gram-positive atrazine degrading bacteria from different French soils

The capacity of 12 soils to degrade atrazine was studied in laboratory incubations using radiolabelled atrazine. Eight soils showed enhanced degradation of this compound. Twenty-five bacterial strains able to degrade atrazine were isolated by an enrichment method from 10 of these soils. These soils were chosen for their wide range of physico-chemical characteristics. Their history of treatment with atrazine was also variable. The genetic diversity of atrazine degraders was determined by amplified ribosomal restriction analysis (ARDRA) of the 16S rDNA gene with three restriction endonucleases. During chewing, saliva helps in preparing food bolus by agglomerating formed particles and initiates food enzymatic breakdown. However, limited information is actually available on the adaptation of saliva composition during oral processing of complex foods, especially for foods that are sensitive to salivary enzymes. Glucose polymer syrup attenuates prolonged endurance exercise-induced vasopressin release

We investigated the effect of glucose and glucose polymer ingestion on plasma arginine vasopressin (pAVP) levels, on plasma osmolality (p-osm), and on performance during two prolonged endurance events. The study subjects were 37 Finnish elite endurance athletes, of whom 18 were orienteers and 19 cross-country skiers. Plasma AVP increased in both combined glucose and glucose polymer groups, but the increase in the glucose polymer group was significantly smaller (P less than 0.001) than that in the glucose group. Abstract Background/Aim Data on management and long-term follow-up of Helicobacter pylori -associated MALT-lymphoma in clinical practice are scanty. We evaluate the long-term efficacy of H. pylori eradication on low-grade MALT-lymphoma, and the efficacy of further therapies in refractory patients. Methods This study enrolled patients with stages I–II 1 MALT-lymphoma and H. pylori infection. H. pylori eradication was attempted in all patients. This work studies the influence of nitrogen and carbon source on ochratoxin A production by three Aspergillus isolates A. ochraceus (Aso2), A. carbonarius (Ac25) and A. tubingensis (Bo66), all isolated from grapes.
