Phase-contrast illumination is simple and most commonly used microscopic method to observe nonstained living cells. Automatic cell segmentation and motion analysis provide tools to analyze single cell motility in large cell populations. The objective of this work is to evaluate the fatigue dependency on the knee extensor muscles length. Exercises varying the type of contraction (isometric and eccentric) and intensity of contraction (maximal and sub-maximal) are performed in order to disrupt the neuromuscular system by different factors of fatigue: central and peripheral. These exercises are performed at two muscular lengths (S and L, corresponding respectively to 40 and 100° of knee flexion). Time of emergence of Mediterranean summer maximum temperature.

The time at which the signalof climate change emerges from the noise of natural climate variability is called “time of emergence”. This timeis analyzed here based on summertime mean maximum temperature in the Mediterranean basin for RCP8.5 andRCP4.5 scenarios. This time would be around 2040-50 (2060-70) in the eastern (western) basin. Differencesbetween the optimistic and pessimistic scenarios give a mean shift of around 15 years with the time ofemergence occurring earlier for RCP8.5 scenario.

Local Finite Group Theory

The word local is used in finite group-theory in relation to a fixed prime p; thus properties of p-subgroups or their normalisers, for example, are regarded as local. In the case of a soluble group, then, everything is local, but an insoluble group also has global aspects. Now the local behaviour influences the global, that is, there are theorems in which the hypothesis involves only p-subgroups and their normalisers, but the conclusion involves the whole group. This chapter is an introduction to theorems of this sort.

If G is finite group and P is a Sylow p-subgroup of G, we prove that there is a unique largest normal subgroup L of G such that L ⋂ P = L ⋂ NG (P). If G is p-solvable, then L is the intersection of the kernels of the irreducible Brauer characters of G of degree not divisible by p.
