Confidence bands for Horvitz-Thompson estimators using sampled noisy functional data

2013

When collections of functional data are too large to be exhaustively observed, survey sampling techniques provide an effective way to estimate global quantities such as the population mean function. Assuming functional data are collected from a finite population according to a probabilistic sampling scheme, with the measurements being discrete in time and noisy, we propose to first smooth the sampled trajectories with local polynomials and then estimate the mean function with a Horvitz-Thompson estimator. Under mild conditions on the population size, observation times, regularity of the trajectories, sampling scheme, and smoothing bandwidth, we prove a Central Limit theorem in the space of …

Maximal Operators with Respect to the Numerical Range

2018

Let $\mathfrak{n}$ be a nonempty, proper, convex subset of $\mathbb{C}$. The $\mathfrak{n}$-maximal operators are defined as the operators having numerical ranges in $\mathfrak{n}$ and are maximal with this property. Typical examples of these are the maximal symmetric (or accretive or dissipative) operators, the associated to some sesquilinear forms (for instance, to closed sectorial forms), and the generators of some strongly continuous semi-groups of bounded operators. In this paper the $\mathfrak{n}$-maximal operators are studied and some characterizations of these in terms of the resolvent set are given.

The Training and Development of Elite Sprint Performance: an Integration of Scientific and Best Practice Literature.

2019

Despite a voluminous body of research devoted to sprint training, our understanding of the training process leading to a world-class sprint performance is limited. The objective of this review is to integrate scientific and best practice literature regarding the training and development of elite sprint performance. Sprint performance is heavily dependent upon genetic traits, and the annual within-athlete performance differences are lower than the typical variation, the smallest worthwhile change, and the influence of external conditions such as wind, monitoring methodologies, etc. Still, key underlying determinants (e.g., power, technique, and sprint-specific endurance) are trainable. In th…

Local maximal operators on fractional Sobolev spaces

2016

In this note we establish the boundedness properties of local maximal operators MG on the fractional Sobolev spaces Ws;p(G) whenever G is an open set in Rn, 0 < s < 1 and 1 < p < 1. As an application, we characterize the fractional (s;p)-Hardy inequality on a bounded open set by a Maz'ya-type testing condition localized to Whitney cubes. pq(G) whenever G is an open set in R n , 0 < s < 1 and 1 < p;q <1. Our main focus lies in the mapping properties of MG on a fractional Sobolev space W s;p (G) with 0 < s < 1 and 1 < p < 1, see Section 2 for the denition or (3) for a survey of this space. The intrinsically dened function space W s;p (G) on a given domain G coincides with the trace space F s …

Model for T2K indication with maximalθ23and trimaximalθ12

2011

Recently T2K experiment gives hint in favor of large reactor angle ${\ensuremath{\theta}}_{13}$. Most of the models, with tribimaximal mixing at the leading order, can not reproduce such a large mixing angle since they predict typically corrections for the reactor angle of the order ${\ensuremath{\theta}}_{13}\ensuremath{\sim}{\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{C}^{2}$, where ${\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{C}\ensuremath{\sim}0.2$. In this paper, we discuss the possibility to achieve large ${\ensuremath{\theta}}_{13}$ within the T2K region with maximal atmospheric mixing angle, ${sin}^{2}{\ensuremath{\theta}}_{23}=1/2$, and trimaximal solar mixing angle, ${sin}^{2}{\ensuremath{\theta}}_{12}=1/3$, through th…

S-4 as a natural flavor symmetry for lepton mixing

2008

Group theoretical arguments seem to indicate the discrete symmetry S4 as the minimal flavour symmetry compatible with tribimaximal neutrino mixing. We prove in a model independent way that indeed S4 can realize exact tribimaximal mixing through different symmetry breaking patterns. We present two models in which lepton tribimaximal mixing is realized in different ways and for each one we discuss the superpotential that leads to the correct breaking of the flavor symmetry.

Separation of unitary representations of connected Lie groups by their moment sets

2005

AbstractWe show that every unitary representation π of a connected Lie group G is characterized up to quasi-equivalence by its complete moment set. Moreover, irreducible unitary representations π of G are characterized by their moment sets.

Relationship Between Patient-Reported Outcomes and Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Morquio A Syndrome

2019

Abstract This cross-sectional analysis assessed the correlation between patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and clinical outcomes in 24 German patients with Morquio A. Clinical outcomes included 6-minute walk test (6MWT), 3-minute stair climb (3MSC) test, and joint range of motion as measures for endurance/mobility, forced vital capacity (FVC) and maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) as measures for respiratory function, and height as an important manifestation. The PROs included the EuroQoL (EQ) 5D-5L (EQ5D-5L), to measure health-related QoL (HRQoL), and patients’ rating of their ability to walk, climb, or breathe. In adults, endurance and pulmonary function measures and height showed strong a…

Vitamin and Mineral Supplementation and Neuromuscular Recovery after a Running Race

2006

International audience; Purpose: This double-blind study investigated the effects of vitamin and mineral complex supplementation on the neuromuscular function of the knee-extensor muscles after a prolonged trail running race. Methods: Twenty-two well-trained endurance runners took either placebo (Pl group) or vitamins and minerals (Vm group) for 21 d before the race and for 2 d after the race. Maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) and surface EMG activity of the vastus lateralis (VL) muscle were recorded before (pre) and 1 h (post), 24 h (post 24) and 48 h (post 48) after the race. Central activation ratio (CAR), neural (M-wave), and contractile (muscular twitch) properties of the quadriceps…

Convergence rate of a relaxed inertial proximal algorithm for convex minimization

2018

International audience; In a Hilbert space setting, the authors recently introduced a general class of relaxed inertial proximal algorithms that aim to solve monotone inclusions. In this paper, we specialize this study in the case of non-smooth convex minimization problems. We obtain convergence rates for values which have similarities with the results based on the Nesterov accelerated gradient method. The joint adjustment of inertia, relaxation and proximal terms plays a central role. In doing so, we highlight inertial proximal algorithms that converge for general monotone inclusions, and which, in the case of convex minimization, give fast convergence rates of values in the worst case.
