2015

This contribution is focused on patients' food practices affected by cancer and cure. The led analyses wish to understand the break linked to the disease and cures to question ways either sensory or symbolic which determine the food choices.

Methane potential of sterilized solid slaughterhouse wastes.

2012

Abstract The aim of the current study was to determine chemical composition and methane potential of Category 2 and 3 solid slaughterhouse wastes rendering products (SSHWRP) viz. melt, decanter sludge, meat and bone meal (MBM), technical fat and flotation sludge from wastewater treatment. Chemical analyses showed that SSHWRP were high in protein and lipids with total solids (TS) content of 96–99%. Methane yields of the SSHWRP were between 390 and 978 m3 CH4/t volatile solids (VS)added. Based on batch experiments, anaerobic digestion of SSHWRP from the dry rendering process could recover 4.6 times more primary energy than the energy required for the rendering process. Estonia has technologic…

Projekts: Uzņēmuma "Inmeal" izveidošana

2022

Growth and food utilisation of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fed low-fat herring and dry diets enriched with fish oil

1998

Two-year-old rainbow trout (initial weight 695 g) were fed for 15 weeks low-fat Baltic herring diets either with or without lipid enrichment. For comparison, similar groups of trout were fed dry pellets with and without top-dressing with fish oil. Inclusion of lipid increased growth rate in a similar manner for both types of diets. For the herring-based diet, increased lipid resulted in increased dry matter consumption but for the dry diet, feed efficiency (dry weight growth per dry weight food consumption) was improved by channelling more nutrients to lipid deposition. If compared within a stated lipid level, fish fed the herring-based diets grew at a slower rate than fish fed the dry diet…

Einfluß der Nahrungsaufnahme auf die Magenentleerung magensaftresistenter Tabletten und Kapseln*

2008

To test the effect of food intake on gastric emptying of gastric juice-resistant drugs, emptying time of a 11 x 6 mm tablet and a 20 x 7 mm capsule was measured by means of a metal detector in 10 healthy persons (5 men and 5 women; mean age 25 [18-30] years) after fasting and after eating three main and three in-between meals. After fasting the tablets left the stomach after 78 +/- 18 min, the capsules after 60 +/- 16 min, while meal intake delayed emptying by a factor of 10 to 12 +/- 1.3 hours and 10 +/- 1.8 hours, respectively. The slightly shorter emptying time of capsules was statistically not significant. The results indicate that gastric juice-resistant tablets taken during day-time m…

Occurrence of fumonisins in foods

2004

Fumonisins (FB) are synthesized mainly by different species of the genus Fusarium and FB1 is the predominating fumonisin isolated in foods. FB1 shows different toxicological effects in humans and animals and has been associated with esophageal cancer in different countries. This review presents an overview of the worldwide occurrence of fumonisins in crops and human foods being corn and corn meal the most contaminated foods, and reviews variations of the presence of these mycotoxins in foods and in agricultural crops. In foods, these variations are due to the alkaline solutions, water and temperature. For agricultural crops, the role of climatic conditions and latitude, genotypes, spoilage …

Hydro-MRT mit schnellen Sequenzen bei Morbus Crohn: Vergleich mit der fraktionierten Magen-Darm-Passage

2008

PURPOSE To compare the value of hydro-MRI with that of barium studies in patients with Crohn's disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS After an oral bowel opacification using 1000 ml of a 2.5% mannitol solution, axial and coronal breath-hold sequences (T2W HASTE +/- FS, contrast-enhanced T1W FLASH FS) were acquired in 46 patients with Crohn's disease at 1.0 T. The findings of hydro-MRI were compared with those of barium studies. RESULTS In the stomach and the small bowel, hydro-MRI and barium studies demonstrated similar numbers of Crohn's involvements (39 vs. 36); in the colon, hydro-MRI showed clearly more affections (23 vs. 10). Hydro-MRI showed 12.7 cm of inflamed bowel per patient, on average (…

Zur Frage der Darmkontrastierung in der abdominellen Computertomographie

1992

In 56 patients undergoing abdominal CT the gastrointestinal tract was defined by negative contrast instead of the conventional positive contrast from an iodine containing contrast medium. The contrast material was a 2 1/2% mannitol solution and was used for filling the rectum. Filling of the gastrointestinal tract was of similar quality to that obtained with positive contrast media. The number of artifacts due to high contrast boundaries was slightly greater with the negative contrast than it would have been with positive contrast. Differentiation of the gastrointestinal tract from other abdominal organs was equally good for both methods. The negative contrast method was poor in diagnosing …

Love, joy and necessity - A phenomenological study of food and meals in adolescents and young adults with cancer receiving high-emetogenic chemothera…

2021

Abstract Purpose This study explored how the phenomenon of meals appeared in the interrelationship between adolescents and young adults (AYAs) receiving high-emetogenic chemotherapy, their next of kin and health professionals in the clinical setting. Method Data were collected by 140 h of participant observation conducted to gain insights into the nature of how meals appeared in the interrelationship between 12 AYAs (age 15–29 years), their next-of-kin and health professionals. The AYAs were patients with oncological and haematological diseases recruited from three university hospital departments. Data analysis was guided by van Manen's hermeneutic-phenomenological approach. Results The ess…

Food pickiness in the elderly: Relationship with dependency and malnutrition

2014

Special Issue: 5th European Conference on Sensory and Consumer Research (Eurosense) 2012 "A sense of inspiration"; International audience; Among factors contributing to malnutrition in the elderly, the present study aimed at assessing the impact of food selectivity (also referred as food "pickiness") on the nutritional status of the elderly. A survey with 559 French people over 65 years old was conducted to collect data on food selectivity, dependency and nutritional status. Food selectivity was assessed by asking respondents to tick each food they dislike among a list of familiar foods. Since some foods could be ticked as disliked because elderly people experience physical difficulties in …
