Prevalence and determinants of secondary posttraumatic growth following trauma work among medical personnel: a cross sectional study

2021

Background: People helping trauma victims as a part of their work may experience positive results, known as Secondary Posttraumatic Growth (SPTG). Aim: The present study aimed to determine the prevalence and determinants of SPTG among medical personnel, considering occupational load, job satisfaction, social support, and cognitive processing of trauma, understood as cognitive coping strategies. Methods: Subjects comprised 419 representatives of the medical profession, including paramedics and nurses. The age of the subjects varied from 19 to 65 (M = 39.60; SD = 11.03). Four standard measurement tools were utilized: the Secondary Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, the Job Satisfaction Scale, th…

Bewältigungsverhalten und ärztliche Informationsvermittlung - eine Studie an Müttern, die ein Kind mit einer Lippen-Kiefer-Gaumen-Spalte geboren haben

1990

To be delivered of a child with cleft lip and palate is an extreme psychic stress factor for the mother. In coping with this, she is left to the support of the caring medical staff. Therefore, the aim of the present study was 1. to ascertain, to what extent mothers of children with cleft lip and palate are given information on the malformation, and receive emotional support by the medical staff; and 2. to determine the effect such experiences have on their ability to cope. For this purpose we developed a special questionnaire, which was completed by 154 mothers of such children. Retrospectively, a relevant part of them criticised not only the communication and the contents of information, b…

Scars Collaborative Telediagnosis Platform Using Adaptive Image Flow

2013

International audience; Telemedicine has been developed to allow practitioners to remotely connect with patients and with other medical staff. We propose a new system (hardware and software), named DICODERM (COllaborative DIagnosis of DERMatosis), which makes it possible to monitor the evolution of scars after the excision of a tumorous dermatosis (like melanoma). The hardware part of this system is composed of a new optical innovative probe with which two types of images can be acquired simultaneously: anatomic with a white light image and functional with a fluorescence image (using autofluorescence from the protoporphyrin within the cancer cell). The software part is composed of two compon…

Prevalence of influenza vaccination among nurses and ancillary workers in Italy: Systematic review and meta analysis

2011

Italian Ministry of Health recommends vaccination for seasonal influenza to all healthcare workers (HCW), particularly to nurses who have an important interaction with patients. The aim of this study is to conduct a systematic review in order to estimate the pooled prevalence of influenza vaccinations among nurses and ancillary workers in Italy and analyze the enhancing and hindering factors. Results: The review was performed using 15 articles, 6 containing the prevalence of vaccination for nurses and ancillary workers, while the others qualitative analysis. In all the selected articles the score calculation has been performed by using a protocol for observational studies. The nurses and an…

An efficient method for subcutaneous veins localization using Near Infrared imaging

2014

In the majority of the medical treatments, intravenous catheterization is the most important phase in which skilled medical practitioners locate the best vein and perform catheterization process for medication or blood sampling. Due to the different physiological characteristics, mainly darker skin tone, scars or dehydrated condition of patients, medical staff stumbles in localization of veins. This paper proposes an enhanced method which intends to overcome the difficulty faced by medical staff in veins localization for intravenous catheterization. Using the Near Infrared imaging and image processing algorithms a novel approach for veins visualization is proposed. In order to have complete…

Professionals’ role in implementing a cervical cancer screening program

2014

The objectives of this study were to investigate the awareness, motivation, and readiness of medical staff to take part in a cervi cal cancer screening program (CSP), with the ultimate aim of increasing the response rate to invitation letters and improving CSP effectiveness and coverage. Certified gynecologists (GYNs) and general practitioners (GPs) practicing in the national and private healthcare systems in Latvia were given specially designed multiple-choice questionnaires. Of 213 questionnaires distributed to GYNs, 74% were completed (32% response rate of all 486 GYNs in Latvia). GPs were sent 933 questionnaires, 24% were returned (15% response rate of all 1,455 GPs in Latvia). GPs regi…

Active hepatitis B vaccination of dialysis patients and medical staff

1984

AbstractActive hepatitis B vaccination of dialysis patients and medical staff. One hundred six patients with terminal renal insufficiency and 29 medical personnel were given three doses of hepatitis B vaccine at an interval of 0, 1, and 6 months (Merck, Sharp and Dohme, West Point, Pennsylvania, part of a joint study no. 649). Chronic hemodialysis patients (N = 99) received 40 µg vaccine (V) i.m. Uremic patients, who were just about to start chronic dialysis treatment (N = 7), were given 40 µg V, and at the first vaccination 3ml hyperimmune globulin (HBIG) in addition. The medical personnel was alternately vaccinated with 20 µg V (N = 8), 40 µg (N = 11), 40 µg V, and 3ml HBIG at the first v…

Non-readmission decisions in the intensive care unit: A qualitative study of physicians' experience in a multicentre French study.

2021

Purpose Deciding not to re-admit a patient to the intensive care unit (ICU) poses an ethical dilemma for ICU physicians. We aimed to describe and understand the attitudes and perceptions of ICU physicians regarding non-readmission of patients to the ICU. Materials and methods Multicenter, qualitative study using semi-directed interviews between January and May 2019. All medical staff working full-time in the ICU of five participating centres (two academic and three general, non-academic hospitals) were invited to participate. Participants were asked to describe how they experienced non-readmission decisions in the ICU, and to expand on the manner in which the decision was made, but also on…
