A kinetic study of the basic hydrolysis of 2-phenylethyl nitrite in the presence of borate buffer and β-cyclodextrin

The kinetics of the hydrolysis of 2-phenylethyl nitrite have been studied in basic aqueous solutions (borate buffer) in the absence and presence of β-cyclodextrin. The observed kinetic trends show that the hydrolysis reaction consists of at least three subsequent processes. The first is a fast acid-base reaction between the boron atom of boric acid and oxygen atom of the alkyl nitrite. The second one should be the nucleophilic attack of hydroxyl ion on the alkyl nitrite. The last process could be referred to as a combination of transfer of hydrogen acid to a water molecule followed by ruptures of nitrogen-oxygen and boron-oxygen bonds. A DFT study on the NHC catalysed Michael addition of enols to α,β-unsaturated acyl-azoliums. A base catalysed C–C bond-formation step

The NHC catalysed nucleophilic additions of enols to α,β-unsaturated acyl-azolium intermediates have been investigated using DFT methods at the MPWB1K/6-31G** computational level. In the direct and the conjugate additions, formation of a hydrogen bond (HB) with the carboxyl oxygen is not sufficient to favour the C-C bond formation as a consequence of the low nucleophilic character of enols. Interestingly, when enols form a HB with the chloride counterion, the activation energies associated with the conjugate addition decrease as a consequence of the increased nucleophilic character of enols and the increased electrophilic character of the 'acyl-azolium + Cl' ion pair. Synthesis of a Tyr3-octreotate conjugated closo-carborane [HC2B10H10]: a potential compound for boron neutron capture therapy

Abstract A novel Tyr 3 -octreotate conjugated closo -carborane as a potential compound for boron neutron capture therapy was obtained via Fmoc solid phase peptide synthesis. The boron cluster [C 2 B 10 H 11 ] was introduced through the reaction of 6,9-bis(acetonitrile)decaborane and 5-hexynoic acid yielding a new closo -carborane conjugated carboxylic acid which was coupled subsequently with solid phase conjugated Tyr 3 -octreotate. The final boron-containing peptide was purified by preparative reverse phase HPLC and structural identity was proved applying MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.

Abstract S-Alkyl (R = benzyl, methyl, ethyl, propyl and butyl) derivatives of thiosalicylic acid and the corresponding palladium(II) complexes were prepared and their structures were proposed on the basis of infrared, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The cis geometrical configurations of the isolated complexes were proposed on the basis of an X-ray structural study of the bis(S-benzyl-thiosalicylate)–palladium(II), [Pd(S-bz-thiosal)2] complex. Divergent reactivity of nucleophilic 1-bora-7a-azaindenide anions

The reactions of 1-bora-7a-azaindenide anions, prepared in moderate to excellent yields by reduction of the appropriate 1-bora-7a-azaindenyl chlorides with KC8 in THF, with alkyl halides and carbon dioxide were studied. With alkyl halides (CH2Cl2, CH3I and BrCH(D)CH(D)tBu), the anions behave as boron anions, alkylating the boron centre via a classic SN2 mechanism. This was established with DFT methods and via experiments utilizing the neo-hexyl stereoprobe BrCH(D)CH(D)tBu. In order to investigate the pharmacological screening of a number of pyran-4-ones their synthesis by cyclization with sulphuric acid of the corresponding 1,3,5-triketones has been carried out with high yields. In the course of preparation of the latter the reaction of 2-acetyltetralone with some esters of benzoic acid derivatives has been studied and in particular, for a number of them, an interesting nucleophilic substitution of a chlorine atom with an alkoxy group on a benzenic nucleus has been evidenced.

The addition of methyl (S)-2-bromopropionate to trimethylvinylsilane initiated by systems based on iron pentacarbonyl affords a racemic adduct and is accompanied by racemization of the unreacted chiral ester. In the presence of benzoyl peroxide, the reaction proceeds similarly, but no racemization of the starting chiral ester occurs.

There is report of an association between steroid 5-alpha reductase gene (SRD5A) expression and facial sebum production. There is no study of the effect of Asparagus racemosus Willd. root extract on the regulation of SRD5A mRNA expression and anti-sebum efficacy.
