Giant hepatic hydatid cyst as a cause of small bowel obstruction.

Today, giant hydatid cysts are fairly rare even in endemic areas. We describe a case of an extremely large hydatid cyst of the liver that was causing massive compression of the neighboring organs, giving rise to a subocclusive syndrome of the intestine. After considering the various approaches available for the treatment of this disease, it was decided that radical surgery was still the best therapeutic choice, especially when extremely large cysts are involved. In particular, in clinical situations where it is difficult to perform radical surgical procedures, less aggressive surgery followed by drug treatment should be the treatment of choice.

Acetylcholine (ACh; 0.1 mmol/l) and KCl (80 mmol/l) induce a biphasic contractile response in isolated guinea pig tracheae maintained at 37 degrees C either in the presence or absence of extracellular Ca2+. Exposure of the tissue to Ca(2+)-free solution evokes a significant decrease in basal tone and the sources of Ca2+ appear to be decreased by prolonged agonist stimulation, and even more by successive agonist stimulation. After an incubation period of 20 min in Ca(2+)-containing solution, the response is restored. We report here on congenital sphenoorbital encephalocele which could not be disclosed by computed tomography including contrast medium application or by orbital sonography. Surgery and histological examination were necessary to establish correct the diagnosis.

The study will present results of chemical analysis of mass spectrometry, evaluating the content of pigments in M. domestica leaves dyeing solution and in dyed woollen yarn nowadays. Yarn was dyed with fresh leaves of M. domestica tree. Before dyeing the yarn was treated with potassium aluminium sulphate mordant. Dyestuffs from the yarn were extracted in compliance with modified hydrochloric method of hydrolysis. This paper investigates the role of manager gender in SMEs’ decisions to get involved in exporting and importing activities, using a sample of 1,405 Spanish SMEs. We borrow insights from international entrepreneurship theories and feminist theories to set testable hypotheses regarding how managerial gender and entrepreneurial orientation (proactiveness, risk-taking and innovativeness) may influence SMEs export and import propensities. Using a bivariate probit model and controlling for other managerial and business characteristics, results reveal that there are not significant disparities in exporting propensities between men- and women-run businesses. Mn(IV) and Co(III) complexes of tridentate –OH–rich ligands possessing O2N, O3N and O4N donor sets were synthesized, characterized and their structures were established by single crystal X-ray diffraction, where the binding core is O4N2. In the structurally characterized complexes, the coordination geometry about the metal ion was found to be distorted octahedral.

X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) at the Mn K-edge was used to investigate the environment of Mn in situ within the growth increments of the long-lived freshwater bivalve species Diplodon chilensis patagonicus. Single XANES spectra and Mn Kalpha fluorescence distributions were acquired at submillimetre resolution (up to 100 microm x 50 microm), at Mn concentrations below the weight percent range (100-1000 microg g(-1)) in a high Ca matrix.
