Porous 3D Printed Scavenger Filters for Selective Recovery of Precious Metals from Electronic Waste

Selective laser sintering (SLS) 3D printing is used to fabricate highly macroporous ion scavenger filters for recovery of Pd and Pt from electronic waste. The scavengers are printed by using a mixture of polypropylene with 10 wt% of type‐1 anion exchange resin. Porosities and the flow‐through properties of the filters are controlled by adjusting the SLS printing parameters. The cylinder‐shaped filters are used in selective recovery of Pd and Pt from acidic leachate of electronic waste simply by passing the solution through the object. Abstract In this research, plasma electrolytic oxidation coatings were prepared on AZ31 Mg alloy in a silicate-based solution containing K2TiF6 using bipolar and soft sparking waveforms with 10, 20, and 30% cathodic duty cycles. The coatings displayed a net-like surface morphology consisted of irregular micro-pores, micro-cracks, fused oxide particles, and a sintered structure. Due to the incorporation of TiO2 colloidal particles and the cathodic pulse repair effect, most of the micro-pores were sealed. A series of nine Ce(III) complexes has been synthesised with seven different monosaccharides (D-glucose, D-fructose, D-galactose, D-mannose, L-sorbose, D-ribose and D-xylose) and two different disaccharides (D-maltose and L-lactose), and these have been characterised with various analytical, spectral, magnetic and electrochemical techniques. The NMR studies have highlighted some interesting features about the metal-ion-binding pattern of the saccharides. Electronic structure of p-type ultraviolet-transparent conducting CuScO2 films

Abstract We investigate the electronic structure of CuScO 2 thin films grown on sapphire and mica substrates by pulsed laser deposition. X-ray diffraction and microanalysis confirm that the films have the expected delafossite crystal structure and stoichiometric proportions. The electronic structure is investigated by means of X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. Electronic states in the range 0–1350 eV are identified, making reference to theoretical density-of-states calculations up to 80 eV. Photoelectron spectra near the Fermi energy confirm the p-character of the films. Optical absorption spectroscopy shows that the films are transparent up to 3.7 eV and exhibit an intense …

Abstract A series of C 2 -symmetrical bis[( E )-2-(4-pyridyl)ethenyl]arenes has been synthesised via two-fold PO-activated olefinations. 1,4-Benzene, 1,4-naphthalene, 9,10-anthracene and 2,2′-diphenyl were used as central units. These fluorescent compounds were freely soluble in common solvents. The absorption and the emission were sensitive towards solvent polarity and acid, in solution as well as in the solid state. Depending on the concentration of acid, protonation of the ground state and/or the excited state caused reductions of the fluorescence efficiencies, accompanied by bathochromic shifts of the absorption and the emission spectra of some chromophores. Miscibility of cyanine dyes in two-dimensional aggregates

Mixed aggregates of cyanine dyes at a charged lipid monolayer surface are studied by absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence microscopy and electron diffraction. We show that slight variations of the molecular structure can convert a system from being fully miscible to being immiscible, and also that the concentrations of dyes in the solution and in the crystal may deviate considerably. The different concentration in the solution and crystal was observed for a molecule where force field calculations indicated the existence of two isomers in solution and where probably only one fits into the lattice.

Simple vacuum evaporation technique for deposition of dyes on various solid surfaces has been developed. The method is compatible with conventional solvent-free nanofabrication processing enabling fabrication of nanoscale optoelectronic devices. Thin films of fluorescein were deposited on glass, fluorine-tin-oxide (FTO) coated glass with and without atomically layer deposited (ALD) nanocrystalline 20 nm thick anatase TiO2 coating. The differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) method described is based on the one reported by Hasse et al., but adapted to normal laboratory conditions. The values obtained in the estimation of the analytical parameters (linearity, detection and quantification limits, precision and accuracy) show that in the conditions described the method is sensitive enough, reliable and useful for determining these elements in infant formulas. A comparison between DPASV and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) methods in the conditions described here shows that the former is less sensitive but that they are similar in precision. Abstract An economical and simple method for the flame atomic absorption spectrometric determination of Cd, Pb, Ni, Cu, Fe, and Zn in sewage sludges is described. Samples are treated with concentrated HNO 3 in a thermal oven using Pyrex glass tubes hermetically sealed with Bakelite screw caps. The effect of the digestion parameters, such as digestion time, acid volume, sample mass, and temperature, were studied. The precision and accuracy of this procedure were evaluated by the analysis of two BCR (Community Bureau of Reference, European Communities) certified sewage sludge samples (CRM 146 and 144).
