Development and Validation of a Reversed-Phase Liquid Chromatography Method for the Simultaneous Determination of Indole-3-Acetic Acid, Indole-3-Pyru…

2011

A simple, sensitive, precise, and specific reverse HPLC method was developed and validated for the determination of plant hormones in barley (Hordeum vulgareL.). The method includes extraction in aqueous organic solvent followed by solid-phase extraction, sample evaporation, and reversed-phase HPLC analysis in a general purpose UV-visible (abscisic acid (ABA)) and fluorescence detection (indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and indole-3-pyruvic acid (IPA)), high-performance liquid chromatography system. The separation was carried out on Zorbax Eclipse XDB C8 column (150 × 4.6 mm I.D) with a mobile phase composed of methanol and 1% acetic acid (60 : 40 v/v) in isocratic mode at a flow rate of 1 ml min…

Development of a non-chromatographic method for the speciation analysis of inorganic antimony in mushroom samples by hydride generation atomic fluore…

2009

Abstract A simple and sensitive method has been developed for the direct determination of toxic species of antimony in mushroom samples by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HG AFS). The determination of Sb(III) and Sb(V) was based on the efficiency of hydride generation employing NaBH 4 , with and without a previous KI reduction, using proportional equations corresponding to the two different measurement conditions. The extraction efficiency of total antimony and the stability of Sb(III) and Sb(V) in different extraction media (nitric, sulfuric, hydrochloric, acetic acid, methanol and ethanol) were evaluated. Results demonstrated that, based on the extraction yield and th…

Validated, non-destructive and environmentally friendly determination of cocaine in euro bank notes.

2005

A non-destructive, fast and environmentally friendly procedure has been developed for cocaine determination in euro bank notes. Cocaine was extracted with 15 ml methanol by vortex agitation during 5 min. The extract was evaporated and reconstituted in 0.5 ml methanol. GC-MS-MS analysis was performed using as precursor ion m/z 182.2, with an excitation energy voltage of 1.60 eV, being the product ions measured m/z 150.2 and 82.0. A limit of detection of 0.15 ng per note and a repeatability of 6%, established from the relative standard deviation, of a 1 ng ml(-1) level, were achieved. Recoveries of 101+/-2 and 98+/-3% were obtained for samples spiked with 100 and 10 microg respectively. Resul…

FTIR determination of Aspartame and Acesulfame-K in tabletop sweeteners.

2004

Two different strategies for sweeteners determination in tabletop samples by Fourier transform middle-infrared (FTIR) spectrometry, an off-line and a fully mechanized extraction of Aspartame and Acesulfame-K with different mixtures of chloroform and methanol, have been developed. The off-line method involves the extraction of both active principles by sonication of samples with 25:75 v/v CHCl3/CH3OH and direct measurement of the peak height values at 1751 cm(-1), corrected using a baseline defined at 1850 cm(-1) for Aspartame, and measurement of the peak height at 1170 cm(-1) in the first-order derivative spectra, corrected by using a horizontal baseline established at 1850 cm(-1), for Aces…

Direct injection analysis of fatty and resin acids in papermaking process waters by HPLC/MS

2011

A novel HPLC-atmospheric pressure chemical ionization/MS (HPLC-APCI/MS) method was developed for the rapid analysis of selected fatty and resin acids typically present in papermaking process waters. A mixture of palmitic, stearic, oleic, linolenic, and dehydroabietic acids was separated by a commercial HPLC column (a modified stationary C(18) phase) using gradient elution with methanol/0.15% formic acid (pH 2.5) as a mobile phase. The internal standard (myristic acid) method was used to calculate the correlation coefficients and in the quantitation of the results. In the thorough quality parameters measurement, a mixture of these model acids in aqueous media as well as in six different pape…

Direct determination of ethanol and methanol in liquid samples by means of vapor phase-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy

1997

Abstract A FTIR procedure is proposed for the direct determination of methanol and ethanol in liquid samples, such as alcoholic beverages and eau-de-cologne, based on vapor generation from small injected volumes of untreated samples into a heated Pyrex glass reactor in which, at a temperature of 80°C, ethanol and methanol are volatilized and introduced into a long-path IR gas cell by means of a N2 carrier flow. The IR spectra obtained present two characteristic ethanol bands (1050 and 880 cm−1) and a single characteristic methanol band (1030 cm−1). The measurement of the area of the transient recording obtained for the wavenumber range between 1025–950 and 950–820 cm−1 allows us the determi…

[2,5-Bis(dipropylamino)-4-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl]methanol

2021

The centrosymmetric title compound, C22H36N2O2, was prepared in five steps from diethyl succinate. The dipropylamino groups are almost orthogonal to the central phenylenedimethanol ring [dihedral angle = 87.62 (9)°]. In the crystal, the molecules are connected by O—H...N hydrogen bonds, forming (101) layers separated by the propyl chains.

Coupling of Benzynezirconocene with 1,4-Diphenyl-1,3-butadiyne

2000

The thermolysis of diphenylzirconocene in the presence of 1,4-diphenyl-1,3-butadiyne to yield the seven-membered zirconacyclocumulene 1 via the intermediacy of benzynezirconocene is described. This complex has been characterized by an X-ray diffraction study. Additionally, better knowledge of the bonding of the cumulene moiety was achieved by DFT calculations. Cleavage of the Zr−C bonds of 1 with methanol provided the corresponding butatriene 2.

Aggregation Behavior of Halogenated Squaraine Dyes in Buffer, Electrolytes, Organized Media, and DNA

2002

Aggregation properties of bis(3,5-dibromo-2,4,6-trihydroxyphenyl)squaraine (1) and bis(3,5-diiodo-2,4,6-trihydroxyphenyl)squaraine (2) have been examined in buffer and in the presence of electrolytes, β-cyclodextrin, micelles and DNA. These dyes were found to form aggregates in buffer and methanol−water solutions that have absorption bands blue-shifted to those of the monomeric forms. The iodo derivative 2 forms aggregates at much lower concentrations (1.7 × 10-6 M) compared to the bromo derivative 1 (2.35 × 10-6 M) in 20% (vol/vol) methanol−buffer solution. Increase in methanol concentration in methanol−water solutions resulted in the disruption of the aggregates. The intermediate dimer in…

The reaction of 2-methoxy-3-nitrothiophene with N-benzylmethylamine in methanol

1990

The kinetics of the title reaction has been studied in methanol as a function of amine and methoxide ion concentrations. The kinetic coefficients obtained point out that the reaction is catalysed by methoxide through a SB catalysis mechanism.
