Electronic Health Records reshaping the socio-technical practices in Long-Term Care of older persons
2020
Electronic Health Records (EHRs) in Long-Term Care (LTC) of older persons are expected to improve resident-centered care by reducing ambiguities in information coordination between LTC workers and organisations. While there are research findings concerning such intended outcomes, we are interested in analysing what sort of other, possibly unanticipated outcomes the use of EHRs in LTC may produce. We argue that the scrutiny of EHRs in LTC requires an understanding of their implementation as socio-technical processes, whereby EHRs are perceived as performative artifacts of LTC rather than technological tools or passive objects. While EHRs have been extensively studied in health-care settings,…
Implementation of JPEG2000 arithmetic decoder using dynamic reconfiguration of FPGA
2005
This paper describes implementation of a part of JPEG2000 algorithm (MQ-Decoder and arithmetic decoder) on a FPGA board using dynamic reconfiguration. Comparison between static and dynamic reconfiguration is presented and new analysis criteria (time performance, logic cost, spatio-temporal efficiency) are defined. MQ-decoder and arithmetic decoder can be classified in the most attractive case for dynamic reconfiguration implementation: applications without parallelism by functions. This implementation is done on an architecture designed to study dynamic reconfiguration of FPGAs: the ARDOISE architecture. The implementation obtained, based on four partial configurations of arithmetic decoder…
Automatic analysis of multiple Beerkan infiltration experiments for soil Hydraulic Characterization
2013
The BEST (Beerkan Estimation of Soil Transfer parameters) procedure of soil hydraulic characterization appears promising for intensively sample field areas with a reasonable effort both in terms of equipment and time passed in the field. Two alternative algorithms, i.e. BEST-slope and BEST-intercept, have been suggested to determine soil sorptivity and field-saturated soil hydraulic conductivity from a simply measured cumulative infiltration curve. With both algorithms, calculations have to be repeated also many times, depending on the number of collected infiltration data, that should vary between eight and 15. The need to consider a varying number of infiltration data is related to the fa…
Design Procedures for Soil-Lime Stabilization for Road and Railway Embankments. Part 1-Review of Design Methods
2012
AbstractWhen selecting the appropriate materials for constructing road infrastructures, an important way for minimizing both the economical and environmental impact is to make use of lime for treating soils that are not suitable for road or railways construction.Advances in lime stabilization technique allowed the successful use of this technique also for improving the bearing capacity of the subgrade, with noticeable savings on both aggregate and disposal charges. In this paper a review of internationally adopted design methods for soil-lime mixture is presented, in order to compare testing methods and requirements of the adopted criteria, as discussed in Part 2.
Optimization criteria in sample selection step of local regression for quantitative analysis of large soil NIRS database
2012
International audience; Large soil spectral libraries compiling thousands of NIR (Near Infrared) reflectance spectra have been created encompassing a wide diversity and heterogeneity of spectra. Among the many chemometric approaches to the calibration of chemical and physical properties from these large libraries, local calibrations have the advantage of being able to select the most similar spectra to the spectrum of a target sample. This is particularly relevant when dealing with highly heterogeneous media such as soils, where the mineral matrix has a strong influence on spectral features. A crucial step in the implementation of local calibration procedures is the construction of local ne…
Mean Interplanetary Magnetic Field Measurement Using the ARGO-YBJ Experiment
2011
The sun blocks cosmic ray particles from outside the solar system, forming a detectable shadow in the sky map of cosmic rays detected by the ARGO-YBJ experiment in Tibet. Because the cosmic ray particles are positive charged, the magnetic field between the sun and the earth deflects them from straight trajectories and results in a shift of the shadow from the true location of the sun. Here we show that the shift measures the intensity of the field which is transported by the solar wind from the sun to the earth.
The polarimetric and helioseismic imager on solar orbiter
2020
This paper describes the Polarimetric and Helioseismic Imager on the Solar Orbiter mission (SO/PHI), the first magnetograph and helioseismology instrument to observe the Sun from outside the Sun-Earth line. It is the key instrument meant to address the top-level science question: How does the solar dynamo work and drive connections between the Sun and the heliosphere? SO/PHI will also play an important role in answering the other top-level science questions of Solar Orbiter, as well as hosting the potential of a rich return in further science. SO/PHI measures the Zeeman effect and the Doppler shift in the FeI 617.3nm spectral line. To this end, the instrument carries out narrow-band imaging…
Assessing the MALDI-TOF MS sample preparation procedure to analyze the influence of thermo-oxidative ageing and thermo-mechanical degradation on poly…
2011
[EN] Multiple processing by means of successive injection cycles was used to simulate the thermo-mechanical degradation effects on the oligomeric distribution of PLA under mechanical recycling. Likewise, an accelerated thermal ageing over PLA glass transition was performed in order to simulate its service life. MALDI-TOF MS was used for the analysis and the sample preparation procedure was assessed by means of a statistical Design of Experiments (DoE). The quality effects in use for the analysis were signal-to-noise ratio and Resolution. Different matrixes, analyte/matrix proportions and the use of NaTFA as cationization agent were considered. A deep inspection of the statistical results pr…
WORKING CAPITAL AS AN ENTERPRISE VALUE ASSESSMENT TOOL
2019
The valuation of an entity in off-exchange transactions involves the use of different techniques. Nevertheless, none of them guarantees the most accurate result. Therefore, it is very difficult to choose one evaluation method. Both investors, corporate managers, financial professionals, portfolio managers, and securities analysts should have a basic understanding of the process of evaluating companies. To that end, professionals recommend evaluating a company’s financial reports to detect its financial position and solvency. According to the methods of financial analysis, working capital is one of the solvency ratios, which describes the value of resources that remain after the company’s cu…
