Decision-making at different phases of adaptive river basin management planning rely largely on the information that is gained through environmental monitoring. The aim of this thesis was to develop and test statistical assessment tools presumed to be particularly useful for evaluating existing monitoring designs, converting monitoring data into management information and quantifying uncertainties. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients have reduced circulating hemopoietic progenitors. We hypothesized that severity of COPD parallels the decrease in progenitors and that the reduction in body mass index (BMI) could be associated with more severe bone marrow dysfunction. We studied 39 patients with moderate to very severe COPD (18 with low-BMI and 21 with normal-BMI) and 12 controls. Disease severity was associated to a greater reduction in circulating progenitors. Proangiogenetic and inflammatory markers correlated with disease severity parameters. In this paper, we investigate the relationship between climate change and variability, measured by temperature and rainfall, and agricultural production at the country and agroecological zone levels of the Sahel. We consider a crop production index and five cereals (maize, millet, sorghum, wheat and rice). This qualitative metasynthesis investigated students’ meaningful learning experiences amid andragogical teacher education programmes. The programmes catered to the specific learning needs of adult students in the context of university-based teacher education. This study aimed to provide a wider picture of the frames of students’ meaningful learning in andragogical teacher education programmes. The findings revealed three major learning worlds of adult students’ meaningful learning, which formed a common system widening from the professional awakening to the transformative community and agency in society. The Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA) experiment has observed two air shower events with energy $\sim 500~{\rm PeV}$ emerging from the Earth with exit angles $\sim 30^\circ$ above the horizon. As was immediately noted by the ANITA Collaboration, these events (in principle) could originate in the atmospheric decay of an upgoing $\tau$-lepton produced through a charged current interaction of a $\nu_\tau$ inside the Earth. Can we ascertain that an archeological site contains intentional stellar alignments?

We study the different parameters that support the presence of intentional stellar alignments on an archaeological site. We develop a rigorous criterion to quantify the probability of fortuitous orientation on a starrise or a starset. We show that the magnitude of the considered stars and the precision of the angular measurements are the two preponderant parameters. Our study aims at establishing the basis of reliable methods for archaeoastronomy.
