Hardy inequalities and Assouad dimensions
2017
We establish both sufficient and necessary conditions for weighted Hardy inequalities in metric spaces in terms of Assouad (co)dimensions. Our sufficient conditions in the case where the complement is thin are new even in Euclidean spaces, while in the case of a thick complement we give new formulations for previously known sufficient conditions which reveal a natural duality between these two cases. Our necessary conditions are rather straight-forward generalizations from the unweighted case, but together with some examples they indicate the essential sharpness of our results. In addition, we consider the mixed case where the complement may contain both thick and thin parts.
Common fixed points for self mappings on compact metric spaces
2013
In this paper we obtain a result of existence of points of coincidence and of common fixed points for two self mappings on compact metric spaces satisfying a contractive condition of Suzuki type. We also present some examples to illustrate our results. Moreover, using the scalarization method of Du, we deduce a result of common fixed point in compact cone metric spaces.
Common fixed points in cone metric spaces
2007
In this paper we consider a notion of g-weak contractive mappings in the setting of cone metric spaces and we give results of common fixed points. This results generalize some common fixed points results in metric spaces and some of the results of Huang and Zhang in cone metric spaces.
Tangent lines and Lipschitz differentiability spaces
2015
We study the existence of tangent lines, i.e. subsets of the tangent space isometric to the real line, in tangent spaces of metric spaces. We first revisit the almost everywhere metric differentiability of Lipschitz continuous curves. We then show that any blow-up done at a point of metric differentiability and of density one for the domain of the curve gives a tangent line. Metric differentiability enjoys a Borel measurability property and this will permit us to use it in the framework of Lipschitz differentiability spaces. We show that any tangent space of a Lipschitz differentiability space contains at least $n$ distinct tangent lines, obtained as the blow-up of $n$ Lipschitz curves, whe…
Neumann p-Laplacian problems with a reaction term on metric spaces
2020
We use a variational approach to study existence and regularity of solutions for a Neumann p-Laplacian problem with a reaction term on metric spaces equipped with a doubling measure and supporting a Poincare inequality. Trace theorems for functions with bounded variation are applied in the definition of the variational functional and minimizers are shown to satisfy De Giorgi type conditions.
Quasispheres and metric doubling measures
2018
Applying the Bonk-Kleiner characterization of Ahlfors 2-regular quasispheres, we show that a metric two-sphere $X$ is a quasisphere if and only if $X$ is linearly locally connected and carries a weak metric doubling measure, i.e., a measure that deforms the metric on $X$ without much shrinking.

Recently, Huang and Zhang defined cone metric spaces by substituting an order normed space for the real numbers and proved some fixed point theorems. For fixed point results in the framework of cone metric space see, also, Di Bari and Vetro [\textit{$\varphi$-pairs and common fixed points in cone metric spaces}, Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo \textbf{57} (2008), 279--285 and \textit{Weakly $\varphi$-pairs and common fixed points in cone metric spaces}, Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo \textbf{58} (2009), 125--132]. Let $(E,\tau)$ be a topological vector space and $P$ a cone in $E$ with int\,$P\neq \emptyset$, where int\,$P$ denotes the interior of $P$. The authors define a topology $\tau_p$ on $E$ so tha…

Recently, Huang and Zhang [\emph{Cone metric spaces and fixed point theorems of contractive mappings}, J. Math. Anal. Appl., \textbf{332} (2007), 1468 -1476] defined cone metric spaces by substituing an order normed space for the real numbers and proved some fixed point theorems. Let $E$ be a real Hausdorff topological vector space and $P$ a cone in $E$ with int\,$P\neq \emptyset$, where int\,$P$ denotes the interior of $P$. Let $X$ be a nonempty set. A function $d : X \times X\to E$ is called a \emph{tvs}-cone metric and $(X, d)$ is called a \emph{tvs}-cone metric space, if the following conditions hold: (1) $\theta \leq d(x, y)$ for all $x, y \in X$ and $d(x, y)= \theta$ if and only if $x…
On fixed points of alpha-eta-psi-contractive multifunctions
2014
Recently Samet et al. [B. Samet, C. Vetro, P. Vetro, Fixed point theorem for alpha-psi-contractive type mappings, Nonlinear Anal., 75 (2012), 2154{2165] introduced the notion of alpha-psi-contractive type mappings and established some fixed point theorems in complete metric spaces. Succesively, Asl et al. [J.H. Asl, SH. Rezapour, N. Shahzad, On fixed point of alpha-contractive multifunctions, Fixed Point Theory Appl., 2012, 212 (2012)] introduced the notion of alpha_*-psi-contractive multifunctions and give a fixed point result for these multifunctions. In this paper we obtain certain new fixed point and common fixed point theorems via alpha_*-admissible multifuncions with respect to eta. T…
Optimisation des requêtes de similarité dans les espaces métriques répondant aux besoins des usagers
2012
The complexity of data stored in large databases has increased at very fast paces. Hence, operations more elaborated than traditional queries are essential in order to extract all required information from the database. Therefore, the interest of the database community in similarity search has increased significantly. Two of the well-known types of similarity search are the Range (Rq) and the k-Nearest Neighbor (kNNq) queries, which, as any of the traditional ones, can be sped up by indexing structures of the Database Management System (DBMS). Another way of speeding up queries is to perform query optimization. In this process, metrics about data are collected and employed to adjust the par…
