Ergebnisse des Hypothermienetzwerks des Universitätsklinikums Dresden von 2010–2017. Entwicklung der Hypothermietherapie bei Neugeborenen in Deutschl…

2020

Knowledge, attitudes and practices of primary healthcare professionals to female genital mutilation in Valencia, Spain: are we ready for this challen…

2017

Background The practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a deeply-rooted tradition in 30 Sub-Saharan and Middle-East countries which affects approximately 200 million women and girls worldwide. The practice leads to devastating consequences on the health and quality of life of women and girls in both the short and long term. Globalizing processes and migration flows have recorded cases of this practice worldwide representing for healthcare professionals an emerging challenge on how to approach their healthcare in a transcultural, ethical and respectful way. No survey to assess knowledge, attitudes and practices on FGM among primary healthcare professionals has been conducted in the Val…

’-omics’ technology and human reproduction: reproductomics

2012

The success of assisted reproduction technology is highly dependent on a precise selection of gametes and embryos and determining the best endometrial window for embryo implantation. For many years, morphological criteria have constituted the only way to assess spermatozoon, oocytes, embryos and endometrial samples in order to improve outcomes. However, this approach has reached a ceiling of success and has been related to unacceptably high rates of multiple pregnancies. New technologies have been developed in order to improve the results and reduce risks via better selection of those gametes and embryos with the highest pregnancy potential, and of more favorable endometrial environments fo…

The impact of cigarette smoking on the health of descendants

2012

This paper presents a review of the literature on the effects of cigarette smoking on the health of descendants and the possible mechanisms that lead to them. The evidence of the effects of prenatal cigarette smoke exposure on neonatal morbidity is clear. A number of birth defects have their incidence raised by maternal cigarette smoking during pregnancy. Prenatal smoke exposure also increases the risk of infant irritability, inattention, decreased response to inanimate auditory stimuli and hypertonia. In addition, the prevalence of obesity in preschool children is higher if the mother smoked during pregnancy, as well as the presence of male or female subfertility/infertility in adult life.…

The impact of workload and job satisfaction on occupational stress -A comparison among newly qualified and experienced midwives in Poland.

2022

BACKGROUND: Midwives are potentially exposed to high levels of occupational stress. The level of stress may be related to the job demands and job resources, as well as midwife seniority. To date, few studies on the determinants of occupational stress have examined Polish midwives. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the roles of workload, job satisfaction, and seniority in shaping the stress levels of midwives in Poland. METHODS: A cross-sectional approach and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used to compare two groups: newly qualified midwives (NQMs; n = 79) and experienced midwives (n = 99). All data were collected between January and November 2018. RESULTS: Analysis revealed…

Vaccination against HPV-Associated Neoplasias

2014

Neoplasias associated with anogenital human papilloma viruses (HPV) are characterised by high patient morbidity and mortality and by appreciable limitations in the patientʼs quality of life. Each year 530,000 women worldwide and 4800 women in Germany develop cervical cancer 1, 2. Biomolecular and epidemiological studies carried out in the past 25 years have demonstrated causal link between persisting infections with HPV 16 and HPV 18 and at least 11 other so-called high-risk HPVs (HR-HPVs) and the development of cervical cancer and its precursor lesions (so-called dysplasias or, respectively, cervical intraepithelial neoplasias – CIN). HPV 16, HPV 18 and other HR-HPVs are also the causes of…

Prognostic significance of the chemokine CXCL13 in node-negative breast cancer

2013

615 Background: The chemokine CXCL13 is chemotactic for B cells. We examined the prognostic significance of CXCL13 mRNA expression in node-negative breast cancer. Methods: Microarray based gene-expression data for CXCL13 (205242_at) were analysed in four previously published cohorts (Mainz, Rotterdam, Transbig, Yu) of node-negative breast cancer patients not treated with adjuvant therapy (n=824). A meta-analysis of previously published cohorts was performed using a random effects model. Prognostic significance of CXCL13 on metastasis-free survival (MFS) was examined in the whole cohort and in different molecular subtypes (ER+/HER2-, ER-/HER2-, HER2+). Independent prognostic relevance was a…
