Mechanism of activated chemiluminescence of cyclic peroxides: 1,2-dioxetanes and 1,2-dioxetanones

Almost all chemiluminescent and bioluminescent reactions involve cyclic peroxides. The structure of the peroxide and reaction conditions determine the quantum efficiency of light emission. Oxidizable fluorophores, the so-called activators, react with 1,2-dioxetanones promoting the former to their first singlet excited state. This transformation is inefficient and does not occur with 1,2-dioxetanes; however, they have been used as models for the efficient firefly bioluminescence. A series of gold(I) alkynyl-diphosphine complexes (XC6H4C2Au)PPh2—spacer—PPh2(AuC2C6H4X); spacer = —C2(C6H4)nC2— (A1, n = 2, X = CF3; A2, n = 2, X = OMe; A3, n = 3, X = CF3; A4, n = 3, X = OMe), —(C6H4)n— (B5, n = 3, X = OMe; B6, n = 4, X = OMe) were prepared, and their photophysical properties were investigated. The luminescence behavior of the titled compounds is dominated by the diphosphine spacer, which serves as an emitting ππ* chromophore. Three‐in‐One Crystal: The Coordination Diversity of Zinc Polypyridine Complexes

The synthesis, structural and photophysical properties of two novel zinc(II) complexes bearing the tridentate ddpd (N,N' dimethyl N,N' dipyridin 2 ylpyridine 2,6 diamine) ligand are presented. Structural investigations have been carried out by single crystal X-ray diffractometry, NMR spectroscopy and Density Functional Theory calculations, revealing a diverse coordination behavior depending on the counter ion. Spectroscopic (UV-VIS and emission spectroscopy) and theoretical techniques (density functional theory and time dependent DFT calculations) have been employed to explore the photophysical properties of the complexes.
Photocatalytic Giese Addition of 1,4-Dihydroquinoxalin-2-ones to Electron-Poor Alkenes Using Visible Light.

The visible-light photoredox-catalyzed coupling of 1,4-dihydroquinoxalin-2-ones and Michael acceptors was achieved using Ru(bpy)3Cl2 as the photocatalyst and (PhO)2PO2H as an additive. The optimized reaction conditions provide a good yield for the radical conjugate addition products (44 examples) with a wide range of structurally different Michael acceptors. A gram scale reaction using sunlight irradiation is also described. Furthermore, several transformations were carried out with the Giese addition products.
A Strongly Luminescent Chromium(III) Complex Acid

The synthesis, structure, reactivity, and photophysical properties of a novel acidic, luminescent chromium(III) complex [Cr(H2 tpda)2 ]3+ (23+ ) bearing the tridentate H2 tpda (2,6-bis(2-pyridylamino)pyridine) ligand are presented. Excitation of 23+ at 442 nm results in strong, long-lived NIR luminescence at 782 nm in water and in acetonitrile. X-ray diffraction analysis and IR spectroscopy reveal hydrogen-bonding interactions of the counter ions to the NH groups of 23+ in the solid state. Deprotonation of the NH groups of 23+ by using a non-nucleophilic Schwesinger base in CH3 CN switches off the luminescence. Re-protonation by using HClO4 restores the emission. Regioselective Bromination and Functionalization of Dibenzo[hi,st]ovalene as Highly Luminescent Nanographene with Zigzag Edges.

Dibenzo[hi,st]ovalene (DBOV) is a nanographene with a combination of zigzag and armchair edges, consisting of 38 sp2 carbons. Excellent optical properties with strong red emission have been demonstrated. Here we report the regioselective bromination of DBOV bearing two mesityl groups (DBOV-Mes) by treatment with N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) under mild conditions. The dibrominated DBOV was further subjected to transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, that is, Suzuki and Sonogashira coupling, demonstrating the edge-decoration of DBOV with different functional groups. Protonation of a Spherical Macrotricyclic Tetramine: Water Inclusion, Allosteric Effect, and Cooperativity

The spherical macrotricyclic cryptand tetramine "C24" (1) displays remarkable protonation behaviour. It undergoes protonation in four successive steps for which pKa values of 11.17±0.05, 10.28±0.04, 6.00±0.06 and 3.08±0.08 have been determined at 298 K. The unusually close values for the first two protonations provide evidence for the encapsulation of a water molecule serving as effector for the second protonation, which is consistent with earlier observations that the exchange of protons bound in the diprotonated species with solvent protons is unusually slow and that 17 O NMR spectra show the presence of an oxygen centre in the same species quite distinct from that of solvent water. Hybrid GMP–polyamine hydrogels as new biocompatible materials for drug encapsulation

Here we present the preparation and characterization of new biocompatible materials for drug encapsulation. These new gels are based on positively charged [1+1] 1H-pyrazole-based azamacrocycles which minimise the electrostatic repulsions between the negatively charged GMP molecules. Rheological measurements confirm the electroneutral hydrogel structure as the most stable for all the GMP-polyamine systems. Abstract The synthesis of two dinuclear ionic complexes with chemical formula [Au(PR 3 ) 2 ][Au(C ≡ CC 5 H 4 N-4) 2 ] that contain the water soluble phosphines, PR 3 , PTA (1, 3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane, 1 ) and DAPTA (3,7-diacetyl-1,3,7-triaza-5-phosphabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane, 2 ) is herein described. The synthesis of five novel cyclometalated platinum(II) compounds containing five different alkynyl-chromophores was achieved by the reaction of the previously synthesized Pt–Cl cyclometalated compound (1) with the corresponding RC≡CH by a Sonogashira reaction. It was observed that the spectral and photophysical characteristics of the cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes (Pt–Ar) are essentially associated with the platinum-cyclometalated unit. Room-temperature emission of the Pt–Ar complexes was attributed to phosphorescence in agreement with DFT calculations.
