2016
It is beyond question that linguistics and foreign language teaching should go hand in hand, but unfortunately, this is not always the case. A good example of this phenomenon are the German modal particles: small words such as wohl in Achmed? Er ist wohl Türke, as denn in Meine Ferien waren super. - Wo warst du denn? or as mal in Komm mal!. Although numerous scientific publications have been made on this topic, it is sufficient to examine German textbooks in use to find out that they often fail to utilise the scientific insights developed from linguistics, regarding these words. After a description of German modal particles seen from the point of view of linguistics, the present article ana…
Finite Model Reasoning in Expressive Fragments of First-Order Logic
2017
Over the past two decades several fragments of first-order logic have been identified and shown to have good computational and algorithmic properties, to a great extent as a result of appropriately describing the image of the standard translation of modal logic to first-order logic. This applies most notably to the guarded fragment, where quantifiers are appropriately relativized by atoms, and the fragment defined by restricting the number of variables to two. The aim of this talk is to review recent work concerning these fragments and their popular extensions. When presenting the material special attention is given to decision procedures for the finite satisfiability problems, as many of t…
Audio-video people recognition system for an intelligent environment
2011
In this paper an audio-video system for intelligent environments with the capability to recognize people is presented. Users are tracked inside the environment and their positions and activities can be logged. Users identities are assessed through a multimodal approach by detecting and recognizing voices and faces through the different cameras and microphones installed in the environment. This approach has been chosen in order to create a flexible and cheap but reliable system, implemented using consumer electronics. Voice features are extracted by a short time cepstrum analysis, and face features are extracted using the eigenfaces technique. The recognition task is solved using the same Su…
Remote heart rate variability for emotional state monitoring
2018
International audience; Several researches have been conducted to recognize emotions using various modalities such as facial expressions , gestures, speech or physiological signals. Among all these modalities, physiological signals are especially interesting because they are mainly controlled by the autonomic nervous system. It has been shown for example that there is an undeniable relationship between emotional state and Heart Rate Variability (HRV). In this paper, we present a methodology to monitor emotional state from physiological signals acquired remotely. The method is based on a remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) algorithm that estimates remote Heart Rate Variability (rHRV) using a …
Multimodal and multicriteria analysis for VLSI expertises and defects localization
2017
The purpose of this manuscript is to exhibit the research work solving the issue of data processing stem from defect localization techniques. This step being decisive in the failure analysis process, scientists have to harness data coming from light emission and laser techniques. Nevertheless, this analysis process is sequential and only depends on the expert’s decision. This factor leads to a not quantified probability of localization. Consequently to solve these issues, a multimodal and multicriteria analysis has been developped, taking advantage of the heterogeneous andcomplementary nature of light emission and laser probing techniques. This kind of process is based on advanced level too…
Family interventions in schizophrenia: an analysis of non-adherence.
1999
Montero I, Asencio AP, Ruiz I, Hernandez I. Family interventions in schizophrenia: an analysis of non-adherence. Acta Psychiatr Scand 1999: 100: 136–141. © Munksgaard 1999. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify baseline factors which may make it possible to predict non-adherence to prescribed treatment. Method: A total of 87 schizophrenic patients in a catchment area of Valencia (Spain) were randomly assigned to two family strategies. The characteristics associated with lack of adherence to the programmes were analysed in both the patients and their families. Results: Older patients, those with a higher number of previous hospital admissions, those living in small households and …
The shared image guiding the treatment process. A precondition for integration of the treatment of schizophrenia.
1994
The aim of the study reported here was to develop psychotherapeutic in-patient treatment for acute schizophrenia, following the principles of a need-adapted approach. To improve the integration of experiences which hospital staff have with acutely psychotic patients and their families, systematic supervision sessions were organised. In these sessions, it was possible to achieve shared psychological images through which the whole staff could integrate patients' behaviour and symptoms, both symbolic and non-symbolic. Such an image was called ‘the shared image guiding the treatment process’ (SIGTP). The process of achieving the SIGTP was interpreted through Peircean semiotics, especially the c…
La gerarchia delle apparenze. Moda, strumenti di controllo e potere nelle élite di antico regime
2021
2023
The article deals with interactional processes in video conferences that took place as part of an international training and further education event for DaF-teachers. The focus is on showing how the teachers request feedback from each other in relation to the topics to be discussed and in what form they receive it. Furthermore, the role of moderation should also be examined. The aim of the study is to reveal interaction patterns that characterize the behavior of teachers in the context of digital education in order to promote a professional feedback culture when dealing with lesson observation.
